Ian Wallach is a trial lawyer at heart. He zealously and vigorously fights for his clients, taking great pleasure in his work.  He combines his strong academic and writing skills--polished while at a national law firm -- with the litigation tactics learned in his many jury trials as a public defender.

While at U.C. Hastings in 1999, Mr. Wallach was chosen for a clerkship with the Office of the Prosecutor for the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in the Hague, and participated in drafting the indictment of Slobodan Milosevic. He then joined the prestigious firm of Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps at its New York office where he worked in civil litigation until 2003.  He is admitted to practice in both New York and California, and is a member of the Bar of the United States Supreme Court, among other Federal Courts.

Mr. Wallach opened his own firm in 2005, and his pro bono work included representing three Guantanamo Bay detainees in federal habeas actions in connection with the Center for Constitutional Rights.

In 2006, Mr. Wallach moved to Los Angeles and joined the Office of the Public Defender.  He tried approximately 30 jury trials in less than two years, and established himself as an exceptional trial attorney.  He was also able to resolve hundreds of matters without needing to push for trial, although he was always willing, if not hungry, to try the case -- a quality that distinguishes him from most attorneys and makes him exceptionally effective in obtaining favorable outcomes for his clients.

Mr. Wallach has published several articles on justice, hosted a show about issues of criminal justice reform ("Wallach on Law"), and appeared on radio and television shows nationwide addressing issues of criminal justice.  His firm, The Law Offices of Ian Wallach, is dedicated exclusively to criminal defense and civil rights.

Experienced, professional, and caring lawyer
When I encountered legal battles during the COVID-19 pandemic, I was very scared as I had never gone through a legal process with a lawyer or faced charges before, so Ian Wallach was a great asset in my court. He helped me through the entire process including the emotional aspects – he really cares about his clients and their well-being and was sympathetic to the financial challenges of 2020. He was able to work with my budget for the services I needed. Thanks to his experience and knowledge of the complexities of the legal system, he was able to get my case dismissed and all charges dropped. Even though my case was relatively small in comparison to his usual cases, Mr. Wallach made time for it and treated me just as any other client. With Mr. Wallach, you can know you’re in the best hands for your case to get the results you deserve! If you’re looking for a lawyer with a proven track record who’s professional, polished, and caring, Mr. Wallach is your best choice.

Thank you Ian!
I am extremely grateful to have found Mr. Ian Wallach. He is a true professional. I had a false allegation against me and was facing a very serious charge. I diligently searched for the most prominent attorney, met/consulted with many, and came across Ian. Aside from his impressive work history, he is kind, caring and had my best interest in mind throughout the process. He has successfully got the charge against me dropped before even the first court date. This man is honest and and stated above I am very grateful for his service! Thank you Ian!

Passionate and caring
I met with Ian for my case. He was recommended by a fellow, very well respected attorney. Ian was non judgmental, caring and attentive. He called me back right away and set up a meeting with me. He is very straightforward and will not make false promises. I believe he is an excellent attorney who will not disappoint you.

Compassionate knowledgeable lawyer
Ian is a compassionate attorney who takes the time to understand client’s position. I had previously visited a number of attorneys before him, and was told there was no hope to help my case. A friend recommended me to Ian, and I was able to find hope again. Ian consulted me and gave me time to make a decision whether to retain him, as he understands it was an important decision to make. I really appreciate his kind considerations. I received his help and my case was dismissed. The dark cloud that had been hovering over my head finally gone away. I am so grateful to have found Ian. He is a great lawyer whom you can trust. I am really grateful for the second chance that I am given. Having a lawyer who is knowledgeable, trustworthy and compassionate is important, and I am grateful that I got to meet Ian. Thank you.

Innovative and Smart
We meet with Ian after our son was arrested. He was lovely to talk to and had some unique and innovative approaches that none of the 5 other lawyers we spoke to brought up. Unfortunately his rate was a bit higher than we could handle, but we wouldn't hesitate recommending him.

Better Outcome Than I Could Have Hoped For
I don't really have enough superlatives to review Ian Wallach. On the one hand, he is exactly what you would hope for in a criminal defense attorney; sharp, knowledgeable and willing and capable of doing exactly what's required to minimize your exposure. On the other hand, Ian is friendly, amiable, and not prone to scolding you for your mistakes or rehashing the incident beyond what's needed to really work your case. Like many people, I did something greedy and stupid and got caught. I was referred to Ian and after meeting with him, felt comfortable. I told him the truth, laid out the facts, and we made a plan. When I was finally arrested and indicted, Ian and his bondsman were standing by to get me out. The exposure on my case was a potential 8 years in jail on five felony counts. Following Ian's advice, I ended up pleading to one count, getting the other four dropped, and owing 30 days community labor. After 18 months of formal probation, my felony will be converted to a misdemeanor. You really can't ask for better than that.

Start with Ian for criminal defense help
Ian was recommended to me by a trusted lawyer friend, as an expert in criminal defense. I called him, and he literally called me back within 5 minutes. From the first call, he was calm, precise, reassuring, and he walked us through exactly what we needed to do to stack the odds in my son's favor. In under 2 weeks, he had navigated us through the process, and partly as a result of actions we took at Ian's direction, the DA declined to file charges. If the scale went to 10 Stars, I'd still give Ian 11.

Exceptional Attorney!
My first encounter with Ian after the initial consultation was a huge relief & really had my mind at ease. I find Ian to be particularly unique & distinctive from the rest in a way described as a bit humorous w/positive outlook on growing clients self-esteem, but at the same time very nonchalant & optimistic to swiftly take on any case with his years of experience. I've praised the exceptional results I've gotten thru Ian & wouldn't hesitate to refer a client in legal bind his way. Ian is simply put - just awesome!

Ian Wallach can handle it
Ian helped me with a dui charge, and was able to get the charges reduced towards a very favorable outcome. Ian is incredibly knowledgeable about the Los Angeles court system and an intelligent, hard worker. A quick glance at his previous achievements put me at ease, and he handled my case with as much care as any other. Ian is a spectacular attorney and you will be happy to have him in your corner.

Knowledgeable and magic in court
Ian helped me when I was charged with a violent felony against a police officer and got the charge ultimately reduced to an infraction of disturbing the peace. He forced me to look at my alcohol issues in rehab and get a psychiatric evaluation which might have saved my life. Ian actually cares for his clients; he does not want them to repeat mistakes made in the past. I hope to never have to use him again, but would definitely recommend him to anyone facing criminal charges.

Experienced, attentive, and caring Los Angeles Attorney
Mr. Wallach has been so helpful with my cases from Day 1. From our first conversation, he was understanding and up front. He didn't have the same attitude and arrogance or judgemental vibe that I was getting from other lawyers I had spoken with. He filled me confidence and instilled trust. I had 3 cases from 10 years ago that I thought would be very complicated to bring up again and deal with methodically. But with Mr. Wallach's unwavering dedication to me as a client and his passion for law and justice, things have been getting resolved in a way I couldn't be more thankful for. He has always responded to my questions and emails in a super timely manner and has been there for advice whenever I have needed it. Not only is he qualified as a lawyer, but I could also rely on him as a confidante. Despite dealing with pretty heavy issues, thanks to Mr. Wallach encouraging me that I was doing the right thing, I didn't feel as scared or alone. He instilled such confidence in me that despite my legal woes, I never thought twice about staying on the ball. He lifted me up in one of the most difficult times in my life and I couldn't be more thankful.

Top Notch Criminal Defense Attorney
Several years ago I was arrested for numerous misdemeanor counts. The arrest was devastating to me both personally and professionally and I have lost more in this process than I would like to share on this post. Through this awful, several year ordeal, I was amazed at the number of unscrupulous defense attorneys out there who are just using their clients for a quick payday. These type of attorneys are sadly the norm and they DO NOT actually care about you or your case, they care about how quickly they can make a buck. Thus it is imperative to find counsel that truly has your back. Ian is the epitome of what you want from a defense attorney. Through a not so positive experience with prior counsel, I learned a very important lesson. That lesson is to interview several defense attorneys even though you feel like there is no time and your back is against the wall. Choosing the right defense attorney makes all the difference. It makes all the difference in a few aspects, the first is that a defense attorney should not only be intelligent, experienced, confident and highly rated but they should be genuine and truly have your best interests in mind as well. Ian Wallach is by far the most intelligent, respected, hard working, experienced defense counsel I have had the pleasure of knowing. These aren't even his best qualities. Ian's best qualities include his genuineness, honesty, integrity and passion. Ian truly cares about you, his client, and doesn't just see $. Ian through the most challenging parts of my life was always and remains concerned for one thing and that was me and my family's health and well being. Its these qualities coupled with his skills as a defense attorney that separate him from the pack. Ian in this difficult case navigated a very difficult prosecutorial agency while at the same time calming my anxiety as this all unfolded. Ian prepared me for trial, prepared himself for trial and counseled me about what to expect every step of the way. Ian has such a good way with people and makes you feel calm despite the storm surrounding you. Ian manages stress and anxiety well (like singing Prince before his closing) and through this management helped me also deal well with all the stress and anxiety of going through a criminal trial. In the end and through Ian's hard work and passion he not only connected well with the Jury but he made sure that justice was served and that all the false allegations and charges were brought to light. Ian through a successful Jury trial had all charges result in either an acquittal or dismissal. I can't say enough positive things about Ian and for anyone reading this just know that Ian is truly good people and one of the good guys. If I could give more than 5 stars I would.

Don't hesitate calling Mr.Wallach!
Mr. Wallach knows what he is dealing with. From very first phone conversation we felt like we were in safe hands because he knew exactly how to tackle our case and what the outcome most likely would be. We haven't had that feeling about the other lawyers we talked to before him. My husband was in trouble in his youth. He came on probation because of that. Before the probation was completed, he moved out of state. Therefore, he have had a warrant hanging over his head for many many years. Because of that, my husband couldnt get a passport. Both things was a Huge problem, because I'm, his wife, lives in Denmark, and we want to start a life together here in Denmark. Mr. Wallach got his warrant removed and helped us take care of this matter, so we can start a family with a clean past, which means a lot. We owe Mr. Wallach everything. If you need help, we strongly recommend Mr. Wallach. If we, God forbid, ever need help again, then we going to call him. Mr. Wallach, I feel like you saved my future. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
