Doug is a former Navy Nuclear Submarine officer and Air Force JAG who worked with the Department of Defense and Department of State (the US Embassy in Kabul) while deployed to Qatar and Afghanistan to help draft the Status of Forces Agreement and Bilateral Security Agreement signed by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai in September 2014. Also, while Doug was deployed, he briefed a 1-Star General on developing Intelligence Law issues on a weekly basis, as well as (among other things) advising US Central Command on information releases regarding detainees and other sensitive records.
How does this help you? Doug knows how to manage multiple areas of the law while bringing efficiency and a unique personal touch. In other words, you won’t be our only client, but our goal is to make you feel like you’re our only client.
Doug met his wife in Tucson while earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arizona College of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering. Doug also graduated from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law in 2012 where he earned the Ralph E. Long Memorial Award for Outstanding Contribution to the College of Law in 2011, the Gonzales-Villarreal Bridge Program Award in 2012, and earned several other scholarships and awards (read below in Doug's Avvo profile for more information).
Also, while earning his Law Degree, Doug worked for the Law School’s Veterans’ Advocacy Clinic; Chief Judge John Roll’s office in the Federal District Court in Tucson, Arizona; and Judge Eileen Hollowell’s chambers at the Bankruptcy Court in Tucson, Arizona. Doug also argued an immigration/asylum case at the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in Pasadena, California, under the Law School’s Ninth Circuit Pro Bono Appellate program. During Law School, Doug was an Editor for the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy (Vol 35, Issue 1), and worked with University of Arizona MBA students in the MBA & Law School’s Law, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation Program where he acted as counsel and volunteered his time at the Arizona Center for Innovation assisting current and future Entrepreneurs to develop and protect their rising enterprises.
On the side, Doug spends as much time as he can with his wife and four children, assists Churches, Schools, and Religious Non-Profits, and is an Allied Attorney with Alliance Defending Freedom, a First Amendment Legal Advocacy Organization.

"I endorse this lawyer. I've had the pleasure to work with Mr. Newborn on a complicated probate matter that required an ancillary probate proceeding to be filed in Seattle. I found his work to be exceptionally good. He and his office are clearly on the ball and are a very professional law firm."
"I endorse this lawyer. Doug is a thoughtful and caring attorney who is well respected within the legal community."
"Doug is a dedicated and highly intelligent attorney. You can trust that he will do every thing he can to assist you in your legal matter and achieve the best result possible."
"I served with Doug in the U.S. Air Force JAG Corps, during which time Doug proved himself to be a self-motivated leader among other highly qualified attorneys. His advocacy skills are second to none. Doug earned my friendship and trust, however, due to his amiable and sincere personality, and his uncompromising integrity. You will receive top rate, personable service from Doug, of that I have no doubt."
"Doug did an excellent job representing his client in a difficult situation. He maintained a high level of professionalism throughout a case in which we were opposed. I think clients will be well served by him."
"I have known Douglas for about 3 years, both as a legal colleague and a friend. I can certainly speak to his legal competency and comfort in a courtroom setting, but more importantly I have come to respect him most for his integrity in all things. A client can count on an honest dialogue with a genuine person, who can then back it up with expertise."
"Doug is a tenacious attorney that will work hard to get you great results. I litigated a military trial against Doug and nothing came easy for me. He has great enthusiasm for the law and has earned my respect."
"Doug has a lot of passion for his work and his clients. Having known him since law school, I have seen how he dedicates himself to his clients and causes that he believes in. I am excited that he has returned to work at our firm again. The wealth of experience that he earned while serving as a JAG attorney will benefit his clients and colleagues."
"Doug recently joined our firm after serving our country as a naval submarine officer and as an attorney for the Department of Justice and US Air Force Jag. I have been impressed by his initiative to advance his career. He is hungry to learn and has a solid eye for detail, something you just have to have as an attorney. I look forward to continuing to work with Doug as he builds his diverse practice here in Tucson."
"Doug is thoughtful, imaginative, precise and persistent, characteristics that you want in an attorney addressing your issues."
