More interested in the money than in truly helping you.

I have never filed a review online, but the disappointment in Kristy was such that I felt I needed to warn others. Kristy was recommended to me and I was hopeful she would do a good job, even though my impression of her when I accompanied a friend to a consultation was not very good. Here are some of... the complaints I have had: - she never responded to some of my messages despite me asking the question several times - she tried to talk me into a solution that would have cost me $6000 more than what I was already paying, for no need and no reason, trying to bind me through a contract to use her friend rather than someone of my choice to settle an issue. I spent and payed for some 10 minutes to argue with her against the solution she was proposing (which was actually what my ex wanted. Felt like she was representing his interests, not mine). Looking back, I am SO glad I stood my grounds and saved myself those extra $6K. - she made a serious mistake at trial. I didn't know what I was allowed to do, say or not do. The cost of that mistake was $3000. I pointed it out to her explaining that I understood that error was human, but still very costly to me, and she kept arguing about what the judge had asked, in order to justify her answer. Everytime I argued that he did not ask that, she came up with something new that the judge had asked (none of which was correct). When finally confronted with the actual transcript, she argued that that's what the judge "meant" even though that wasn't what he asked at all and made me appear as being in contempt rather than compliant. How dishonest to twist the facts just to save face and get her payment (which I was willing to pay, nonetheless hoping for a small discount). - She brought another attorney to court with her, making me pay for 2 attorneys without letting me know asking for my consent. All the other attorney did was carry her papers. She did agree to remove that charge. - Finally I was never notified by her office of the court date and when my papers had to be turned in. I finally called, only to find out they needed my answer right away!

I am grateful for the opportunity I have to respond to this misleading review. I was retained by this client in 2017 after her ex-spouse filed several claims of contempt against her. The scope and goal of my representation was to defend her against claims she had violated terms of her Decree of Divorce. This client had already gone through a very reputable attorney and I was her second attorney. She claims in her review that I tried to talk her into a solution that would cost her $6,000. As an officer of the court, I am legally required to convey to my clients reasonable offers from opposing counsel. This is exactly what I did in this case and gave her the pros and cons of each side. This client elected to go to court, which we did. She misrepresents that we went to trial. We did not go to trial in her particular case. We had a contempt hearing before the District Court Commissioner. At the hearing, I was able to successfully accomplish the goal of representation, which was to keep her out of contempt. As a result of my arguments in court and the documents I filed prior to court, all of the contempt charges filed against her were ultimately and successfully dismissed. This client claims that I made a mistake in court that cost her $3,000. Somehow, this client believes that she should have been awarded attorney’s fees by the Commissioner and alleges that my statement in court prevented the Commissioner from awarding her attorney’s fees in a contempt action against her. Prior to court, I explained to this client that it is difficult to get attorney’s fees in these situations. This client asked me to make a representation to the court that was not true. She wanted me to make a statement in court that was inconsistent with the facts and inconsistent with the sworn affidavit she signed and filed. I practice law with honesty and integrity. I am a zealous advocate for my clients but will not make false statements to the court. I have gone back and listened to the transcript and I answered the question asked consistent with the affidavit and the truth. If this client wanted an attorney to lie in court, she needed to go a different direction. This review further states that I charged her for bringing another attorney to court. I am well staffed with associate attorneys and paralegals to make sure we have sufficient resources and availability to assist our clients. There were several hours I spent on her case in which I did not charge her. She was not charged for the associate attorney’s time in court. Finally, when this client received her bill, which had been discounted, she refused to pay. She informed me that if I did not write off her bill, she would post a scathing review. She essentially attempted to intimidate me to get out of paying her legitimate legal charges. Those who know me in the legal community know that I will not back down and I will not be intimidated and manipulated. It is unfortunate that this individual can use the internet as a forum to misrepresent the facts and the truth.

Kristy Hanson is a miracle worker

Kristy Hanson is hands down the best lawyer we could have ever asked for; I wish we would have known about her from the beginning when I filed for divorce. I had a VERY high conflict divorce that had protective orders involved against my ex husband. I was referred to another attorney initially and in...stead of getting me results he kept ringing up my bill without accomplishing anything and caused nothing but negative ramifications to my children and I. Finally after 2 years of ongoing battles, 200K in paid legal bills and absolutely no results other than making our case worse and causing more stress, I fired my attorney and hired Kristy Hanson. From the moment we hired her she worked tirelessly to go above and beyond to protect my children and I and to get us the results we so desperately wanted. My previous lawyer made it seem our best possible option for my children was to have supervised visits with my ex husband so my children would be safe with my ex who was abusive my children and I. Kristy didn't just accomplish the goal of protecting my kids from my ex husband in just a few months of hiring her; but she was able to work with my ex husbands attorney and got them to agree for him to surrender his parental rights and let my new husband adopt them. She did all this for a fraction of the cost of our old attorney!! This was seriously something we never thought would be possible. Not only are my husband and I so grateful but our children are so happy because they do not have to live in fear anymore and they know they never have to see him again. She is honestly a miracle worker. Kristy not only is aggressive and a hard worker but she has great relationships with the other attorney's, mediators and judges / commissioners in the area; her reputation proceeds her. Kristy is invested and passionate about what she does and we owe everything to her. If you are thinking of hiring an attorney; we absolutely suggest you hire Kristy. You will not find a kinder, more invested, and hard working attorney than Kristy Hanson. Kristy thank you so much for keeping our children safe and making our dream a reality!

The best of the best

I hired Kristy to help me in a high conflict divorce with complex custody issues and a large estate to work through. She has shown strength and class from day one. That is exactly what I was looking for to help my family through this difficult time. By the time I hired her, I had already been dea...ling with a couple of months of limited time with my kids. She went right to work in filing temporary orders. She and her team worked late into the night (Midnight) night after night preparing for the hearing. Her preparation was so good leading up to the hearing that the hearing only lasted about 30-40 minutes. The end result was me getting 50/50 custody, keeping possession of my house and not paying temporary alimony while we work to a final resolution. She is honest and hardworking and will not back down to anyone. She did not ask for a large retainer up front and only bills me as time acures. The communication has been good with her and her staff through the entire process. The depth of her staff and their knowledge base is amazing. They are all very respectful and understood the high stress situation I was dealing with. They had a way of helping me feel like it wasn't as big of a deal as it felt like in the moment. I have really appreciated her integrity through a process that has already been hard. I would recommend her to anyone that wants to work through the processes as painless as possible. Right after the hearing we were right onto the next phase.

Poor communication, only fights for your cause if it matches her beliefs.

Failed to file timely. Failed to truly be an advocate & was more concerned about maintaining her professional relationships than working my case. Always on vacation, Cancun, Florida, Hawaii, Europe.. never working. Withheld information from opposing party, and failed to present rebuttal evidence i...n our favor. Talked more about turning 40 and hating getting old than listened to important case facts. Laughed about another client wanting 50/50 custody every time I mentioned it. Truly believes women raise kids and men pay for them (Mormon based). If you're not LDS, you're not worthy and get 50% effort at best. Open discussed one of her special master cases in front of me with Ryan Petersen. Absolutely shocked at her bias in the conversation. The case was that of a close friend; she didn't know was my friend.

Fantastic Protector of Justice

I hired Kristy to help protect my children from my ex husband, and his wife. Yes fighting your ex-spouse and his wife is expensive. But every single penny of debt I own now was worth it, because when it comes to protecting your children from a pedophile there is no monetary limit. Kristy made it pos...sible for me to protect my kids which should be every mothers #1 priority. Kristy fights so hard for her clients. I was always able to reach her or one of her staff (who all knew my case well) through email, or phone call. Kristy sent me texts the night before court dates to tell me to take deep breaths and that she was there with me. As soon as I hired Kristy it felt like I had the entire MHM firm fighting with me. These people truly believe in the justice system, and have moral compasses that can not be turned! Kristy continues to provide ongoing support even after my ex husband was sentenced to prison for 22 years for crimes against children. She is always willing to answer a question or a phone call, and I know she will be honest with me. Kristy wont tell you something is possible if it is not, she will not just give you the answer you are hoping for. She stays professional and has an understanding that the best thing she can do for her clients is to help them understand the legal system, and how it is there to protect/help them. I appreciated this honestly because I always felt confident because I knew our case strong built on fact, not on emotion. My children are safe and happy and beginning to heal from a horrific few years, and I believe that this is possible because of Kristy and the MHM team! THANK YOU!!!
