Biography
Jason Schatz (pronounced "shots") is known by police officers, prosecutors, judges and other defense attorneys throughout the state as one of the most knowledgeable, aggressive and effective DUI attorneys in Utah, so much so that he is often asked to lecture and teach other attorneys interested in duplicating his success in defending DUIs. He even wrote a book about it.
In December of 2006, Jason was featured on the cover of City Weekly magazine as Utah’s go-to “DUI Guy!” In 2008 Jason became Utah's first Board Certified DUI Defense attorney by the National College of DUI Defense (NCDD), one of about 50 in the US and only 2 in Utah, and the youngest person to have ever done so. To further his knowledge of DUIs and police procedure, Jason has completed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) student and instructor courses for the Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST). He has also completed the Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) course that many officers take. With two dedicated paralegals and a full staff in both his Salt Lake City and St. George offices, he is able to concentrate on his clients' best defense.

Charged too much for a public defender result.

Replied last August 30, 2019Timothy, I'm sorry you feel that way. However, to set the record straight I made 2 court appearances on your behalf at which I was able to get you excused from appearing for your convenience. Before you retained me we discussed what we new about the case at that time and the nature of the charges you were facing (felony possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute) and I quoted you a fee consistent with the fee I charge to represent a Defendant on that nature of felony offense. No promises of a dismissal were made and you agreed to the fee for representation and engaged me to represent you. I obtained all the necessary discovery, evaluated it carefully and reviewed it with you. I negotiated a pela deal involving the reduction of the felony to a misdemeanor and you agreed the plea agreement was fair and reasonable based on the facts and evidence in your case and you chose to accept the plea offer. As do most of the people I represent I know that you had hoped that we would find a way to get your case dismissed but unfortunately that does not always happen. I wish you the best in the future. Not cheap, but you don't want cheap
