Exceptional defense attorney

I'm typically hesitant to recommend anyone for anything, but Mr. Akers is the exception. I was charged with a crime which could affect not only my job but my career. Mr. Akers took exceptionally good care of my case, kept me updated by either phone or email. I found him easy to access, quick to respond, confident, but not cocky. He's a true professional. He prepared me for the worst case scenario, and what he thought would happen, but he kept working behind the scenes and managed to get my case dismissed, something I didn't expect. I will forever be grateful for his service and dedication to his profession. He kept reminding me, "I work for you." I highly recommend Mr. Ackers.

Born and raised in Houston, Cordt obtained his undergraduate from Tulane University in New Orleans and his law degree from South Texas College of Law. At South Texas, Cordt clerked for the Chief Justice of the 1st Court of Appeals and excelled in the school’s nationally renowned trial advocacy program, earning the title of top trial advocate in his class. He began his career as a prosecutor with Harris County District Attorney’s Office and was then hand-picked to work under and be mentored by famed attorney Dan Cogdell at one of the most prestigious criminal firms in the state.
Cordt is a graduate of Gerry Spence’ Trial Lawyers’ College, has been listed as a Super Lawyer “Rising Star” in White Collar Criminal Defense every year since 2017, is AV Rated by Martindale Hubbell, and has received admittance to “Best Lawyers in America – Ones to Watch” every year since 2020.
Cordt has represented lawyers, judges, professional athletes, and Grammy-winning musicians for a variety of allegations in criminal courts. His primary focus is defense in federal and state court in white collar indictments and investigations. Likewise comfortable in the civil arena, he is frequently called upon by civil attorneys to present their case to a jury when settlement is not an option. He maintains a docket of representing public servants and police officers finding themselves in need of help, be it in a criminal indictment or as victims of the conduct of others in civil court. He also maintains the firms’ growing civil rights litigation docket.
Most recently, Cordt was added to a team of attorneys to aid in several of the litigations against Alex Jones and InfoWars on behalf of the families of the victims of the Sandy Hook massacre, and his involvement has been widely reported across Texas as well in the Wall Street Journal and New York Times.

One Of The Best

Cordt is one of the best lawyers I have dealt with . He works magic . I am on deferred adjudication for a prior charge & he did ever thing in his power to make sure I got a dismissal ! On a case I picked up . He kept me up to date, most lawyers now a days don't even remember your name ! I would definitely recommend him, he works hard for his clients !

Cordt Akers is the best!

We called Cordt Akers to help with my son's public intoxication charge. I was more than impressed with his creativity and attention to detail. The time he put into my son's case, even though it was a misdemeanor, blew me away. He made a point to keep us as updated as much as possible and even gave us reminders of important deadlines and court dates. Regardless if your problem is big or small, don't hesitate in calling Cordt. Hopefully we won't be needing his services again, but I know who we'll be calling if we do.

Excellent and Trustworthy!

Mr. Akers made me feel confident that everything will work out just fine since my first meeting with him. He was available to answer all of my questions and concerns. Cordt Akers is the best criminal defense lawyer

Just wanted too thank Cordt again on my case.. Simply the best! I had never had too hire a lawyer and was really stressed as anyone would be but when I first talked with Cordt he made me feel 10 times better. Through is professionalism and knowledge and hard work.. Cordt got my case dismissed in a timely fashion! Also all his staff treats you with respect and very professional... Yes it was not cheap but raw natural talent is not cheap as Cordt Akers and his staff are worth every cent! Also I hope nobody goes through what I just did.. Focused support to leverage all possible advantages for dismissal

DUI case was dismissed after a lot of focus and smart use of evidence by Cordt. He leveraged feedback from my friends and science to drive the court to dismiss my case. Professional and hard working.

Felony Theft Dismissal

Mr. Akers represented me when I was charged with felony theft. I was accused of stealing a bag which contained items belonging to off-duty police officers. A felony conviction of this nature would have prevented me from practicing my chosen career. Due to the gravity of the charges against me, I knew that I needed immediate, proven and effective representation. Mr. Akers began gathering information about my case as soon as we ended our telephone conversation and was up to speed for our first meeting. He laid out the best case scenario as well as worst case scenario and his recommended plan to resolve the charges against me. Cordt and his firm kept me appraised to every step that occurred with my case. They were able to reschedule hearings for me when I was absolutely unable to travel to Harris County for them. Cordt was available to me whenever I needed to get into contact with him. When the prosecution would not budge, Cordt had informed me that he had already been preparing for trial, in case that was the route I chose to take. Ultimately Cordt was able to get the charges against me dismissed, for which I am truly grateful. Requiring a criminal defense attorney means you are already in a stressful and worrying situation. I recommend Cordt Akers to lift some weight off of your shoulders and to guide you through the legal system, returning a favorable outcome.

Professional and Respectful

Professional, knowledgeable, respectful, responsive and understanding. These are the words that best describe Cordt Akers. From our initial meeting to the many phone calls, he made sure I was informed and all your concerns are addressed. He knows how to manage ones expectations because he did not sugarcoat the facts but at the same time he made me feel he had the situation under control. Exceptional Representation

Professional and Attentive Above and Beyond

Mine started with a questionable case of DWI in Texas. From the time of my arrest to my first arraignment, Serious doubt surrounded my case. The tough question was how would to approach a decision to plea of go to trial. Upon my first consultation to my first appearance before the court, my mind was put to ease by Cordt and The Cogdell Law Firm. I was assured that through the process their truthful guidance and straight forward approach if possible, would work to get me what the law allows, a fair shot, and someone to see It through to the end. Not only did they do what they said they would, my case was dismissed and all the credit has to go to my lawyer and his team at Cogdell Law. I felt more than a minute of stress as this case moved forward from resets to set backs. But never did the professionalism of Cordt do anything, but reassure my confidence in him and his efforts moving my case to a final result of a dismissal. I put myself in the position of needing lawyer. Unfortunately most don't have a guide that gives a name of the good one's you can really count on. So I'm writing this review in hopes of it helping one take the guess work out of finding a partner. Cordt was that partner, and I can't thank him and Cogdell enough. F.

Superlative Performance

Mr. Akers professionalism is outstanding. He was quick to put my mind at ease and I couldn't recommend his service higher. His ability to relay information and keep me informed on all aspects of my case was timely and efficient. With this being the first time I have ever been in trouble I truly did not know what to expect and he left me with not one thing to worry about. Sustained Commitment

I believe that effective attorneys serve in times of personal crisis with straightforward leadership, compassion, ethical behavior, and sustained commitment. Cordt C. Akers is this type of lawyer. Difficult cases have a way of diminishing the energies of most attorneys. Akers' ability to understand the 'issues behind the issues' clearly elevates him to an elite status among Houston's great lawyers. My case seemed impossible and my freedom was clearly in jeopardy. Attorney Akers' patience, sustained commitment, and faith gave me strength and hope. He worked with the DA and I am free at last! What Attorney Cordt Cullen Akers has that other lawyers do not is "sustained commitment". John W. Gardner, a tremendous leader who served six Presidents, wrote, "no doubt many of the grave problems that beset us have discoverable, though difficult, solutions. DUI Dismissed

Cordt and his colleague Dan Cogdell got my DWI case in Houston dismissed after it was pending for 5 years. Cordt and Dan were responsive, creative and devoted to getting me the best result, taking into account my requests and specific needs.
