All talk, no bite. Mr Powers nowhere in sight.

As an individual, I have nothing but respect for mr powers since I’m sure he has extensive knowledge of the law. As an institution, this is not the case. He gave a very promising consultation that earned the trust of my parents and myself. When confronted with the issue stated on other reviews about ...being “handed off”/represented by other individuals, he strongly denied this and assured me this was not the way his firm operated which led us to retain his firm. When it came time for my court dates, I had dates for both misdemeanor and felony courts. For the first court date, I was not greeted or represented by mr powers but the associate he handed my case off to. Fortunately the next time I had to appear in this court I was met by the same associate. When it came time to appear in the other court, I was greeted by another different associate of mr powers, carrying a large iPad(important for later). The best part: she was in the late stages of her pregnancy, and when in the back room of the court discussing my terms with me, used her iPad to communicate with the other associate that I was “being a pain in the a**” after only asking a few questions. The questions and concerns had to do with the fact that what mr powers had discussed with us during our consultation, were not happening. With the stress of court and the associate saying there’s nothing else she can do other than jail time, I was under the impression that I had no other choice but to sign what she was presenting me. In summary, my cases were handed off and I was represented by other attorneys. In theory, this is not a big issue. Mr Powers is running a business and trying to retain as many clients as he can. Since there is only so much one man can do, he is hiring others to handle cases under his supervision. The reason it is not ok and the large red flag is that as clients we never consult with or get to meet any of these individuals who would be handling our cases prior to signing. As clients we are baited by mr powers, and switched after signing to strangers. In hindsight, I offer you these thoughts. Most people don’t have the time, patience or resources to consult with many attorneys, especially if your issues require you to need a criminal defense attorney, means that you’re probably in one of the most stressful periods of your life. At the time, as a senior university student and this being my first incident needing representation, I was fortunate enough to have the resources to be able to consult with many attorneys both in Denton and Dallas. Mr powers puts a lot of efforts marketing his firm through radio ads and mailers to get you to his door then makes a lot of big “feel good” statements during your consultation in order for you to become a client. If you find yourself in a situation needing a criminal defense attorney, I would recommend that before you sign to retain mr powers, to walk through the door facing his office door and at least consult with the attorney occupying the office across mr powers, Mr Ross. In hindsight and having consulted with him, John Ross runs a smaller firm which I believe can guarantee you the time and personal representation necessary for proper criminal defense. Unless you’re a high profile celebrity, such as Russ Martin, which seems to be the only way to guarantee you mr Powers time and attention.

Look Around

I'm sorry, I don't like doing things like this and hardly ever leave reviews but I think it is best that if you need a lawyer, and are going to spend a LOT of money, do some research and really check out the comments. Tim is basically a really nice guy, yet I have no idea how good of a lawyer he is. ...He showed me a LOT of interest until my check cleared. Then I basically never saw him again. Almost 3 years after getting a "deal" that I really didn't want or like, from one of his assistants who I told I wanted to take it to trial and she would have none of it, I am still having tons of problems with my drivers license and all that they will do at the office every time I call or go back there is just look it up and verify what the DPS has told me already. Then just a blank stare and silence and a " good luck with that". This is after they told me in the beginning that I had done everything I needed to do and that there would be no problems. So, I'm on my own, like I have been since I hired them. You are going to pay them a huge amount of money and wind up doing almost all of the legwork on you're own. And the best of luck to you trying to get hold of Tim once you have paid. They are very good about contacting you when you owe them money though. Anything else and you will be lucky to get a call back after you have called them seven or eight times. I'm just really disappointed. 4500.00 plus additional fees and I think they spent a total of about 30 minutes in the courtroom, which is right next door, and they won't even consider helping me with my license issue. Like I said, check has already been cashed. I'm sure for another 4K they might actually help me get my license issue handled. I hate being sarcastic but I am really upset.
