I became a lawyer because I could not stand inequity. Unfortunately, not many things in life are fair and certainly not in our judicial system. When I was growing up, almost every fight I got into was protecting someone getting bullied, which is what our justice system will do to you if you do not have a good lawyer. Furthermore, I am still an athlete and have been my whole life. I even played baseball at Texas Tech for 4 years. To be a good athlete, you have to be competitive. You have to want to win. As a lawyer, I want to win. I am obsessive in the way I prepare for a case for trial, I want to win. It is my belief that the keys to winning at trial is first of all, knowing “when to hold them and when to fold them”, and preparation and more preparation. It also helps to have tried hundreds of criminal jury trials, and even more contested divorce trials before the court. I have over 40 years’ experience. I practice on helping clients throughout Denton, Tarrant, Dallas, Wise, Collin, and Cooke Counties of Texas in criminal defense and family law matters, estate planning and probate. I am a Specialist in Criminal Law, as certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. In recognition of my work,

My ex-husband and I tried tried the DIY divorce and it proved more difficult than we thought. I hired James Horton to complete our decree. His team worked quickly to clean up our mess and we were divorced in less than a month from hire date.

Had a driving while license invalid with precious conviction case and he just pretty much got me off the hook.
"Jim is an excellent attorney who truly fights for his clients but does not waste valuable time and fees contesting silly issues."
"I endorse this lawyer. He and I took over a case after protracted litigation and bad feelings between their previous attorneys. We met, came up with a plan to finalize the matter, attended mediation and the case was settled fairly quickly. I found Mr. Horton to be a highly competent, pragmatic and fair minded individual who did a good job for his client without blowing the case up or unnecessarily running up expenses."
"Jim is an outstanding lawyer who represents his clients well but is also easy to work with. I have a great deal of respect for Jim and his abilities as a lawyer!"
"Jim Horton is a highly respected and skilled attorney in many areas. He is professional and a man of his word. His reputation is impeccable."
"I endorse this lawyer. I have known Jim for many years. He is well qualified in the areas of family law and criminal defense."
"Jim Horton is an excellent lawyer. He is honest and brilliant. I have recommended several clients to him, and been very satisfied with the case outcome. He is a worthy adversary."
