Wonderful Attorney..!

Jim has helped me for over 15 years with child custody and criminal cases (college years). He was one of the most upfront and honest guys I have ever worked with. He always worked with me when it came to attorney fees and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. He is very knowledgeable a...bout the law and always kept me safe. I would recommend Jim to anyone.

Worst Attorney in DFW

I was 17 years old and was caught stealing a radar detector out of an unlocked car. I was tried as an adult, but my lawyer (James Horton) told me that it would make no difference as he was going to plead it down to a deferred adjudication. He said I would have to do probation, but after it was comple...ted there would be no record. I did 2 years on probation without incident and didn't really think about it too much after that as I was in college and it was all behind me (I thought). After I graduated I moved back home for a few months, got a job and started earning a living. I was ready to move out of my parents house and get on with my adult life, so I went out looking for my first apartment. I found one I really liked that was close to work, so I submitted my application and waited to be approved. I was denied. When I asked why, the leasing agent wouldn't tell me...she said she was not able to go into detail. I figured it had something to do with my age, lack of credit history, etc. This was a nice complex so I figured I might need to downgrade a bit. I tried several other complexes varying the levels of quality so as to maximize my chances. Denied all around. I asked all of them why and one took pity and told me what it was...my criminal record! Since then I have found myself avoiding apartments altogether. I have rented houses, lived with other people, and owned my own home (lost it in a divorce). I was able to rent an apartment a couple of years ago, and I thought that this part of my life had finally dropped off of my record or was far enough in the past to no longer be an issue. I was wrong again! I am now in an apartment with a roommate that I moved into 2 weeks ago. There was no mention of a problem with my application until last Thursday (04/02/2010) when the manager called and said they had misplaced my application and could I fill out another one. I did, and turned it in after the Easter holiday (04/05/2010). I received a call from the manager yesterday saying my application was not approved due to past criminal history. I took off work to see her in person and explain in detail. She then told me it would ultimately be up to "corporate". So here I am...having moved all my things in, paid first months rent, unpacked and settled in, I am in the process of being thrown out with nowhere to go. 40 years old...3 college degrees...3 securities licenses (series 7, 63, 66), and no blemishes on my record since my childhood, I am still a lifelong criminal in the eyes of everyone. Thanks to James Horton for ruining my life!!

Caveat Emptor!

Did not act in my best interest. Expertise extremely lacking in areas of protecting my rights and exploring what I should have actually been entitled to in property division during my divorce. Terms set forth are, apparently, not going to be enforced and I will end up destitute (whereas, my ex, who h...ad no attorney, is sitting there with EVERYTHING and gloating). Hiring an attorney should have made things equal and fair (and, with my ex not having one, most would've assured I got more than my fair share! They are not following up or returnng my phone calls. Have heard MANY negative things about this attorney--- after-the-fact! This man did not do what I paid him to do and there are a lot of things belonging to me that still have not been surrendered (he only listed 1 gun on the decree and there is an arsenal that is mine... along with deposits from rental properties and many other things!)

"I endorse this lawyer. He and I took over a case after protracted litigation and bad feelings between their previous attorneys. We met, came up with a plan to finalize the matter, attended mediation and the case was settled fairly quickly. I found Mr. Horton to be a highly competent, pragmatic and fair minded individual who did a good job for his client without blowing the case up or unnecessarily running up expenses."
