After several years of sobriety, I slipped up. Bad. Picked up a PI, and did it while still on probation for a prior offense. You know the rest -- possible revocation loomed on the horizon. What I did obviously wasn't smart. A crisis date (the anniversary of the death of a loved one) had arrive...d, and, unlike prior years, I didn't use my tools to avoid drinking. Instead, I wound up in the company of an acquaintance who didn't know of my prior issues, and, before I could even think about it, I was deep into a bottle (or 2). Like I said, not smart. He presented my circumstances in the best possible light, stressed my years of compliance with the terms of my probation, and within two (2) weeks had secured an agreement with the Court's probation department wherein I would not be referred for revocation proceedings. To say the least, I and my family will be forever grateful for his efforts. The result in my case speaks for itself. What I would stress to anybody in a similar position who might be reading this is how very, very, VERY important it is to hire an attorney who is viewed as highly credible by the Courts and their staff. Why is that important? Because your own credibility with those same people will be largely dependent upon your attorney's credibility.
