Charles Alan Amen

Charlie Amen is an owner of Amen, Gantner & Capriano, Your Estate Matters, L.L.C. He has extensive experience in the estate planning field, in addition to his background in financial planning, income tax counseling and tax return preparation. He knows the importance of planning for the future, both economically and emotionally. Mr. Amen, along with other members of the firm, will work hard to provide quality estate planning services to clients concerned about protecting their hard-earned dollars and providing for their loved ones in case of death or disability.

Because of his knowledge and desire to share that knowledge with others, Mr. Amen is frequently invited to speak on estate planning matters. He teaches adult education classes in the through Meramec Junior College on topics such as investments, taxes and estate planning. He also devotes his time to educating customers through estate planning seminars.

After serving as a Coast Guard Attorney handling everything from court martials to administrative maritime law, Mr. Amen became a Deputy District Attorney in Solano County, California, where for 11 years he prosecuted felony cases. He was also the owner of an income tax preparation firm, primarily responsible for income tax returns. For two years, he worked as a stockbroker and financial advisor at a large brokerage firm.

Recognizing the need for his clients to have the legal tools to control their own affairs and avoid the hassle and heartache of probate, Mr. Amen joined Purcell & Amen, L.L.C., the successor of Purcell & Associates, L.L.C.  Mr. Amen has been able to combine his financial, tax and legal experience into comprehensive estate plans that meet clients' needs and expectations.

Mr. Amen is a member of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, Missouri Bar Association, California Bar Association, The Estate Planning Council of St. Louis and the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys. He is licensed to practice law in both Missouri & California.

Mr. Amen obtained his undergraduate degree in History/Government from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, where he also obtained a commission in the Coast Guard. He went to law school at University of California, Hastings College of Law, in San Francisco and obtained his Juris Doctorate in 1982.

Mr. Amen and his wife are both originally from South St. Louis County and are Lindbergh High School graduates and currently live in Kirkwood with their family. He was active in Boy Scouts and is a former Cubmaster. Mr. Amen is also a Commander in the Coast Guard Reserves, serving as the St. Louis Legal Officer.

For recreation, Mr. Amen and his wife are in a bowling league. He is an avid stamp and coin collector and a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Mr. Amen is a member of the St. Louis Coast Guard Officers Association, Reserve Officers Association, and the Founders Board of the American Cancer Society's Heritage League.
