Impressive work and professionalism.

My husband and I had a very complicated I601 and I212 waiver case and had to hire an attorney no matter what. We searched online for weeks trying to find the best one since we were living in Costa Rica and wanted an attorney from Chicago. We hired Robert after reading his impressive curriculum and e...xperience, plus he did not have any issues with the bar. I am a Costa Rican citizen married to a USC. All of our communication was done over the phone and email but that didn't make it less personal. Robert was always ready to answer all of our questions, always gave us the correct time frames for each process (he said my kind of process could take up to a 1.5 years and that's exactly what happened), guided us through the whole ordeal and basically just told us which documents to provide and what fees to pay. Everything always came with a receipt either from him for professional services or the immigration fees we paid. I am a complete "worrier", I worry about every single thing that can go wrong and I ask a ton of questions. He was always happy to answer them in a timely manner. And if I was still asking questions after he was still answering them! Always with great attitude. With Robert's guidance and expertise we were able to put together a very strong argument as to why my husband couldn't live in Costa Rica and why he needed me with him. Although this is the truth, it is extremely hard to know how to accurately prove this to USCIS, you really have to know how the waiver process works and doing it without a responsible and honest lawyer is not what would recommend to ANYONE. Robert helped us file the waiver and it was approved today, November 21st 2013!!! I owe my happiness to Jesus Christ and Robert, along with all the family members who supported us through the pain and suffering my husband and I endured this past year and a half. I WOULD ABSOLUTELY, HANDS DOWN recommend Attorney Robert Milla for any immigration matter, he knows what he is doing and has the experience needed to win cases. My husband and I will be forever thankful to Robert for bringing us together again. You can contact me if you need further proof. Regards, Paula and Jacob

Didn't help us at all in a marriage based greencard process!

My name is Dennis . Me, and my wife Irina applied for a greencard for her based on our marriage ( I'm an US citizen) We tried to get our case forward , because we have waited a LOT for a decision. (seems like USCIS forgot about our case...) . To begin with: We had done everything for our case, w...e prepared it in full basically, so the lawyer had just a tiny bit of a job. His assistant, Maria, spelled my wifes last name wrong in the paperwork she filled, which is A CRUCIAL MISTAKE in such things!!! Although , we had an option to file for Mandamus on our case to force USCIS to take a decision in a strict timeframe, he didn't tell us about it a word (we found that out from another lawyer). Also, we wanted to book an appointment with Mr. Milla, (since we hired him) , his assistant Maria had always a way not to book us , stating that he had no time. So, in the end , we hired another lawyer that was competent enough to tell us that we had a legal option to force USCIS to take an immediate decision on our case (Mandamus) , for which we applied and got a positive result after not even a month! We do not recommend Mr. Milla , or his assistant, Maria to take care of your immigration things. The money paid are gone in vain.

We take pride in the work we do, and our staff works very hard to help clients and maintain regular contact. This review was a surprise, particularly because our office actually did obtain significant positive results soon after filing paperwork with the government (USCIS), including an important approval for a necessary step in the green card process within just one month after filing documents to resolve the clients’ already delayed case. We proactively communicated with our clients multiple times by phone, email, and in person to follow up on documents that we requested, to provide status, and to file paperwork per our strategy. We pride ourselves on hard work and dedication to our clients, and in this case we are confident that our strategy was the correct one, as shown by a significant approval and correspondence from USCIS indicating necessary steps toward green card approval, without the costs and risks of potentially premature litigation (mandamus) in court. We regret that a client may not have been 100% satisfied, and have no problem admitting if we could have been better. However, in this situation, we formulated a successful strategy, acted promptly to carry out that strategy, and saw immediate results in the right direction toward approval of the green card.

Avvo Rating

Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals. Attorneys who claim their profiles and provide Avvo with more information tend to have a higher rating than those who do not.

What determines Avvo Rating?
  • Experience & background Years licensed, work experience, education
  • Legal community recognition Peer endorsements, associations, awards
  • Legal thought leadership Publications, speaking engagements
  • Discipline Disciplinary information may not be comprehensive, or updated. We recommend that you always check a lawyer's disciplinary status with their respective state bar association before hiring them.
