Biography
I have been an immigration attorney since 2006, and am the founding attorney of Milla & Associates, LLC, an immigration firm dedicated to serving immigrant communities. My focus on immigration law has included family and employment cases, as well as removal defense, through which I have earned approvals for asylum, cancellation of removal, and adjustment of status. My work on applications for provisional waivers and standard waivers of inadmissiblity has earned approvals for clients worldwide, including for countries in Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia. I have developed a federal litigation practice and have successfully represented clients in federal court actions, including mandamus delay cases and challenges to improperly denied immigration applications.
As an adjunct professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology-Chicago Kent College of Law, I teach a legal writing course that I designed to focus on unique issues of immigration law. I am an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, serving as the Vice-Chair of the Chicago Chapter Litigation Committee. Over the years I have been an invited speaker on immigration reform, policy, and litigation.
My personal background has given me great appreciation for the immigrant experience and perspective. My mother immigrated to the United States from the Philippines as a graduate student, and my father was born into impoverished circumstances in Brooklyn, New York to Spanish and Italian immigrant parents, to eventually serve in the United States Marine Corps and New York City Police Department. With such a foundation, I was raised to admire the immigrant experience and dream. While my background is unique to me, I have always found great similarities to my clients. I have created my own immigrant stories when I spent extensive time abroad, receiving my Master's degree in Auckland, New Zealand; working in Niigata, Japan; and completing a legal internship in Beijing, China. My wife, also an attorney, is a first-generation Indian-American, and together we have two children.

Replied last August 05, 2016We take pride in the work we do, and our staff works very hard to help clients and maintain regular contact. This review was a surprise, particularly because our office actually did obtain significant positive results soon after filing paperwork with the government (USCIS), including an important approval for a necessary step in the green card process within just one month after filing documents to resolve the clients’ already delayed case. We proactively communicated with our clients multiple times by phone, email, and in person to follow up on documents that we requested, to provide status, and to file paperwork per our strategy. We pride ourselves on hard work and dedication to our clients, and in this case we are confident that our strategy was the correct one, as shown by a significant approval and correspondence from USCIS indicating necessary steps toward green card approval, without the costs and risks of potentially premature litigation (mandamus) in court. We regret that a client may not have been 100% satisfied, and have no problem admitting if we could have been better. However, in this situation, we formulated a successful strategy, acted promptly to carry out that strategy, and saw immediate results in the right direction toward approval of the green card.
