I hired Joe this past August after a recommendation from a friend and reading these reviews. I was facing an order of protection and criminal charges for a alleged domestic abuse case. Joe recommended that I file a divorce immediately in order to seek civil remedies to my situation. Family courts sta...ck the deck against the accused. I was not able to enter my home, receive any personal items, my car, or even my medication without this help. Realizing my dire situation, and lack of income, Joe assured I would also have a criminal defense by graciously splitting retainer with his partner. After filing a few motions for this relief, I was able to access what I needed to go to work and defend myself in criminal case. Eventually the Order of Protection was vacated through negotiations and I was able to see my two young boys and resume living at home to reconcile my marriage without further fees from Joe. I am a difficult client and Joe set me straight when needed. The state and family courts and sometimes lawyers keep litigants as far away as possible in order to feed the system. Joe isn’t a part of that game. I spent three times less than my wife did as the accused. Her lawyers made her pay $2,000 just to process an OP, and squeeze as much life out of this case as they could. I would recommend Joe to those in need of family law counsel.

joe knows how to get it done! my case has been complicated to say the least. joe was able to keep my son in a safe environment, solve any problems as far as decision making and child support, and was even able to get permission for me and my children to move out of state, which is no easy task. he kn...ows the law front and back and will always be honest and straightforward. when our GAL gave me a hard time, he helped me to not only deal with this pathetic excuse of a human being, but kept my son safe and supervised with a noncompliant bipolar, alcoholic cokehead with anger management issues absent father....we all know the IL court system is backwards and seemingly unconcerned with the welfare of the actual children they are supposed to be protecting, but with joe on my side we made sure not to let my son fall through the cracks. joe is always available for call, text, or email regardless of the day or time. his paralegal, jen, is also amazing and is always willing to talk you off the ledge, inform, and explain. nothing will ever be sugarcoated which is rather refreshing. i would never allow another lawyer to touch my case. i highly recommend him for any family law case, but particularly a complex case. i will forever be grateful to joe for making my son's safety and well being a priority.

I hired Joe for a motion that my x husband filed recently. Joe answered all my calls, texts, emails right away. He was truthful and wanted to handle it in the right way. He asked for the full story. He showed that he truly cared and wanted to help me. Hes not your typically lawyer. My x husband... dropped the motion because it was ridiculous from the start why he was taking me to court. I no longer needed Joe but he still made sure the motion was dropped even after i didn't need him anymore. After a referral from a friend to Mr. O'Brien. I hired him in October of 2018 to represent me in my parentage case, after interviewing 5 separate attorneys. It has been a very ltitigious and complicated case, made even more difficult by the opposing side firing two attorneys and now being on thei...r third. Mr. O'brien has handled every litigious hurdle they have thrown at us with professionalism and full advocacy for my 5yo daughter. His counsel has been invaluable in navigating an incredibly complex legal case. Another note of merit for Mr. O'brien is his constant attention to me as a client. Unless in court on another case, he is constantly available for phone consultations, email and even text message questions. It is very rare that I have to wait more than a couple of hours before receiving a responce from him. Further, I feel that Mr. O'brien's ferocity in his legal practice comes from the fact that he is the father of two young children. From his personal life comes a very sincere care and concern for the children in his cases. Another note of interest in the amnner in which he practices is that he knows when to play hardball with opposing counsel and when to play balll with them.
