I hope my story will help you if you are facing foreclosure or stuck in a high interest or underwater mortgage. I purchased my condo in 2005 at the peak of the market in Chicago. I was paying a high interest rate due to some credit issues that I had years prior. I was assured by my mortgage banker that if I could raise my credit score, I could refinance into a lower interest loan. I lived in the condo for 5 years and despite repeated attempts at refinancing, I was always declined due to not enough equity, or the best was when I was told I “could afford the high interest rate because I was making over $100,000 a year.” I continued to pay faithfully, hoping something would change in the future. I bought a condo in 2004 when real estate was on the rise. I saw the value of my condo go up $30,000+ the first number of years and felt really good about this real estate investment. I owned a home that was supposed to be a "starter home" which I bought in 2000. As time passed, things changed and I got married. It was time to move. The home was small and the neighborhood became crime ridden. I called a realtor and was told I would be lucky to get $40,000 for the home I owed over $100,000 on.
