Richard D. Small

My name is Richard Daniel Small. In 2006, I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan; where I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. My background in History helped build a solid foundation in regards to critical analysis, and research and writing. This foundation has carried over into all aspects of my legal profession. 

After my undergraduate studies, I attended Wayne State University Law School in the City of Detroit. I received my Juris Doctorate from Wayne Law in 2011.  While attending Wayne I was a member of the Black Law School Association, and the Hispanic Law School Association. In addition to my memberships, I also worked at the Federal Defenders Office, Eastern District of Michigan, in Detroit. While there I was privileged to do both research and writing on multiple criminal matters, including the Hutaree Militia case. The Hutaree is a Midwest militia that the FBI attempted to prosecute for an alleged plan for a violent revolt. Members were facing numerous charges, amounting to the possibility of life in prison. From our research and critical analysis, seven Hutaree members were acquitted, and property seized was returned to their owners.

I am a long time resident of Oakland County, and consider myself to be a true Michigander. I began elementary school in Southfield, moved to West Bloomfield in 3rd grade, and for the rest of my adolescent’s lived in West Bloomfield. I am married, and currently live in Farmington Hills. We recenetly were blessed to have our first child; Greyson Alexander Small. We are also proud owners of an English Bulldog. 

I am Licensed to practice in the State of Michigan, and am a member of the following organizations: The Michigan Bar Association, The American Bar Association, and The Oakland County Bar Association.
