Scott and his right hand expert in the office, Sarah, demonstrated their knowledge and expertise with the process and law and were always available to answer my calls or return them same day. A wise professional

When we go through the trials of life there are things we need to be ready for including the death of our beloved parents. If you put off your family legal affairs until it's to late you will regret it. Trust me, the last thing you will be thinking about after a parent passes is legal paperwork, I learned it when my Mother passed. Not one single thing was prepared legally and it was a living nightmare. I have one parent remaining and I wasn't going to live a nightmare twice. I needed a professional attorney who could get it done correctly so that when that times again I will not have to fret over legal paper work. Mr. Sumner was professional and courteous and I would recommend him to anyone, he will be our family attorney as long as we remain.

I graduated from Michigan State University (Go Spartans) in 1986 with a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management and a Juris Doctorate degree from Michigan State University College of Law 1989. I was also the past president of the Rochester Bar Association, I sit on the MOOT court of law for the local judges, and I am licensed to practice law in the United States Federal Court.

Scott is married with 2 daughters and enjoys spending time in Northern Michigan, does volunteer work, and semi-noncompetitive golf.

Estate Planning

Last Will and Testament

I hired Scott Sumner to prepare my will, medical directive, power of attorney and Lady Bird deed. He was very professional. Amazing service

Not only was the staff polite and professional, they made the experience of doing our trust a pleasant one. Deciding on which way to go on obtaining living wills

Scott J. Sumner presented us with video where he totally explained the differences types of estate planning. Afterward had a meeting with him where we could review as to what we saw and questions we might have of the differences between a trust or a living will type for estate planning. afterward we felt comfortable with our decision to proceed to close . Scott and his Paralegals Sarah and Rori were a pleasure to do business with. And would highly recommend.

Estate Planning

We consulted a few highly recommended attorneys for our estate planning. Scott and his paralegal Sarah were the only one who gave us a fair price up front and stuck to it. We are schoolteachers and definitely needed this to stay within our budget. Not only was the process broken down and easy to understand, but the final product was clearly organized in a nice binder. Will & Trust

We wanted to get a Will and Trust in place to complete our Estate Plan, and Sumner and Associates were definitely the right choice. The Sumner team were very helpful throughout the entire process. The process to complete the Will and Trust was very easy with all of the forms provided. Everything went very smooth. Scott did an exceptional job of organizing everything I needed to have my will/trust completed. I was so apprehensive at first, as all of this seemed so confusing to me, and I felt I may be leaving something out that I should have covered, etc. I received a very organized binder with much additional information and other things to consider/think about. He answered all of my questions and brought up some which I had not thought about, but were very pertinent. I left his office feeling much less anxious than when I walked in. Thank you Scott!
