HIGH legal cost special education matters

I was afforded a free consultation after contacts with K Altman law firm. The consultation went great very informative until we discussed the cost I was quoted $26000 non-refundable which covered education advocacy for my children (2) meaning attending IEP meetings, determining appropriate services i...f due process was needed that would be another price mind you this is related to free public school matters, so just think families with children with disabilities are generally strained even if a two parent household but I am a one parent household. I feel like the price is astronomical people are capitalizing off of children with disabilities. This is big business attorneys charge just to talk about a case. I requested to discuss receiving partial services but I did not even receive a response. If I paid $26000 maybe I would have received a response even a email, do not bother after viewing this review.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We appreciate the opportunity to have spoken with you regarding your children's education and the challenges you are facing in securing the appropriate services and accommodations they need. We understand that navigating the special education system can be overwhelming, particularly when advocating for two children with distinct and complex needs. Due process hearings require extensive legal preparation, including reviewing school records, conducting legal research, developing expert testimony, attending pre-hearing meetings, filing motions, and ultimately presenting the case at a formal hearing. Because these cases often involve significant legal and evidentiary challenges, our flat fee structure reflects the comprehensive representation required to pursue the best possible outcome for both of your children. We regret that there was a delay in responding to your request regarding partial services, as it is never our intention to leave a family feeling unheard. While due process cases are often best pursued comprehensively, we are always willing to discuss tailored approaches based on a family’s specific needs. If you are still seeking legal assistance or advocacy support, we would be happy to revisit your case and explore potential options that may be feasible. We sincerely wish you and your children the best in securing the educational support they deserve. If we can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Despicable office

It should be a CRIME that they even state they want to represent the laws and claim to help protect children, mental health, etc! I want my time and breath back after how worthless a phone call was with their Attorney, Salomon Radner. He wanted nothing to do with the cases of the Public Schools al...lowing my child to be bullied so badly that he was suicidal at just 7 and, again, at 9 years old; nor how the school refuse to follow the laws of I.D.E.A. to care for my other child, who is Autistic, and was illegally restrained, secluded, restrained again while being in seclusion of a room illegally too small with 2 adult males in the room.

The ethics rules that govern the practice of law do now allow me to describe the facts of this matter in detail, but I can say this: This young lady was never a client, and the only “crime” I committed was advising her that we did not feel that her circumstances warranted civil rights litigation. I sincerely wish her and family the best.

DO NOT USE FOR SCHOOL/ APPEALS!!

Waste of time and ten thousand dollars. These people don't do a thing and hardly get anything done if anything at all. They are unresponsive and do the bare minimum for your case. On top of that, they are forgetful and have a hard time understanding your issue. So many broken promises from this firm.... Before acquiring their assistance, I was already on the right track with my appeal process and doing everything I needed to report my school. Keith promised reliable assistance in the appeal process and a "big brother" look out so the school faculty would not hassle me so easily, and if all failed, we would talk about the next steps into litigation (if it was necessary). They never actually wrote an appeal. They just literally repeated all my previous appeals and then put them into their own words that was abysmally wrote up. I had to change so much it was obvious Robert, my "rep" had no idea what was going on with my case. In total, I think he wrote three emails to my school that were all magnificently rejected. In the end, my school rejected all attempts for my "representitves" to reach out and talk. Keith Altman's law firm pretty much told me what I already knew from the beginning and gave up with their tails between their legs. The school said no, and Altman Law politely agreed with them and made no attempts to fight the school. I NEVER once spoke with a layer for the whole time I was using their assistance. I made countless calls and emails to Keith requesting assistance and a new representative and I never spoke with him after my first 300$ consultation. These people are scams! Please take your money elsewhere and do your research! I was desperate and wasted my money and pride with these "people".

It is unfortunate to hear about your dissatisfaction with our services and appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. We strive to provide dedicated and effective support for all our clients, and it is disappointing to learn that you feel we fell short of your expectations. We want to acknowledge the complexity of your case and the considerable efforts we made on your behalf, including repeated communications and strategic attempts to navigate a challenging situation. Unfortunately, certain actions and decisions—despite our guidance—compounded the difficulties and escalated tensions with the school, ultimately impacting the outcome. While we understand your frustration, it is important to clarify that the process required collaboration from all parties. Our recommendations and requests for your participation were critical steps in progressing your case. In some instances, incomplete actions or deviations from the plan made achieving your desired resolution more difficult. We regret that you did not find the support you were looking for in our team. We are continually evaluating our processes and client interactions to ensure that we uphold the highest standards of professionalism and care. Your feedback provides an opportunity for us to learn and improve.

Believe the negative reviews

Hired them for a school dismissal, as another person previously said in their review Mr. Altman claims he knows the schools attorney and has a good rapport. The initial letter written by their advocate was very elementarily written and the lack of communication after the letter is sent left much to ...be desired. When I wanted to speak directly with the attorney I was treated as though I was being a bother, after spending thousands of dollars I believe I am warranted at least one conversation. In the end the answer remained the same but the effort behind it was not worth what it cost. When getting dismissed from the school you are truly at the school's mercy do not pay an attorney unless you have an actual legal matter that has some sort of precedent behind it; do not use for academic dismissal otherwise you are truly wasting your time and money.

Regarding the initial letter written by our advocate, we aim to create documents that are clear and effective. We regret that it did not meet your expectations and will take your feedback into account for future cases. As for the opportunity to speak directly with Mr. Altman, we understand the importance of direct communication with the attorney handling your case. We are sorry that you felt you were treated as a bother. We understand that the outcome of the case was not what you had hoped for, and we empathize with the frustration that comes with such situations. While we cannot guarantee outcomes, we are committed to putting forth our best effort for every client and believe we did so in your matter.

Do NOT hire them

First off, during the initial consultation with Attorney Altman, he told me he knew my school’s attorney and made it seem like I had a strong case. If he tells you he is familiar with the other party’s attorney, don’t believe him. His office did the bare minimum work in my case. If they had put in mo...re effort and we still lost the case, I wouldn’t be as upset. Except for the general counsel meeting, they did nothing differently that I myself hadn’t already tried to do (write an appeals, send a few emails.) They charged me $13,000 and I got absolutely nothing out of this case. During talks with my case advisor, she would forget details and had to consult her notes. Sometimes I had to send multiple emails to get a response. They put me through 5 months of anxiety and stress with very slow progress and I ended up losing the case for reinstatement to medical school. After losing the case, they tried to just get rid of it and didn’t even try to genuinely explore other ways to help. I hired them after reading positive reviews on here but I am starting to think those reviews are fake. Do NOT hire this firm unless you want to lose thousands of dollars and have no outcome in your case.
