Scammers

I paid this lawyer $11,000 and he did nothing but take my money. I was in my last Semester at Roane State Nursing, and the Disability Dept. The Asst. Dean and Instructor worked hand in hand to prevent me from graduating. I gave proof to support my claim, and he agreed to take the case, long story sh...ort, I paid $350 for a consultation, and another $11,000 and all they did was tell me what the school dtated they were not willing to do. I never received an opportunity to meet wth the legal team and the college to discuss my case. Altman sent me emails through the portal stating they did not get a response from the college on several occasions, Then I received a letter stating they were closing my case. It seems as if they take large sums of money from their clients ad deliver nothing. I have over $80,000 in student debt, and for a firm to take advantage of vulnerable people is devastating. Do not waste your money and time with this law firm they will scam you and give nothing in return!

Do Not Hire for Any reason!!

Do not hire this "Lawyer", or his firm; I made that mistake and I will share the experience. I contacted Joseph Lento and he brought Keith Altman in during the initial consult April 2021, all three of us on conference call. I explained my severe issue with a university pharmacy school administration... involved in mass cheating cover-ups followed by retaliation against me for not condoning the cover-up. The retaliation included multiple years of accusations, manipulations, and persecution to force me to quit, fail, or be removed; including falsifying my transcripts and IRS 1099's. I formally hired the duo, signed the contract and payed each lawyer $5000.00 November 2021; Keith became the main contact and litigating lawyer for the lawsuit. The lawsuit was for abuse of power, force the correction of my transcripts/ files, pain and suffering for 8 years of hell of a 4-year program. Keith said "don't worry, we got your back". Keith Altman expressed to me his ability to practice in the Northern district of Texas where the school is located. I knew the school to be dishonest, but they would not roll over; this was going to be a fight. 22 months later, this lawyer rolled over. I supplied a deposition, hundreds of emails, official documents, audio files, and video files to Keith Altman during consultation with interns beginning Jan 2022.We provided a demand letter; Keith Altman reviewed, signed, and sent to the school June 2022. July 2022 school response was to refuse correcting transcripts but informed the transcripts were sent to the National Board a year earlier, unbeknownst to me. Keith instructed to begin the formal complaint/ grievance. Communication at this point became mostly unsuccessful. Keith failed to disclose the lawsuit filed against him by Joseph Lento whom accused Keith of stealing clients and not paying him; discovered while investigating Keith Altman law due to lack of communication. April 2023, I learned Keith was unable to practice in the Northern district of Texas and was trying get licensed to practice or find a local attorney for help with the case. June 2023, Keith asked if the formal grievance/ complaint was ready, the intern and I answered in agreement; Keith responded this to be his marching orders to begin the official lawsuit. I was unable to get updates for the next 2 months. September 2023, Keith contacted the National Board without consulting me first. He accepted their response without question, decided the case was over, quit without filing the formal grievance, and refunded his portion of the fee ($5000) received November 2023. On the conference call, Keith told me he agreed with what I was standing for and I was correct, but just give in to the school, get licensed and then ask the school to correct the transcripts. When questioned, Keith said to just file the formal grievance myself if I wanted to continue the case, he provided the grievance with a short letter saying I experienced a "hard time in college" giving the exact same false information as the school concerning the transcripts. I believe Keith was paid off by the school to quit the case. A person cannot agree with fraud to get licensed and then go back and question the fraudulent records. I consulted another attorney and was informed the statutes of limitations expired, (November 2023) and possible legal malpractice by Keith Altman. I contacted the National Board and asked detailed verification questions. The board wanted to go over my transcripts, I gave the same details, documentation, and emails provided to Keith Altman. The board followed up by deleting the transcripts based upon the discrepancies the school hid. If Keith provided the detailed documentation with questions to the board, they would have provided proof of dishonest manipulation/ activity by the school. The school ruined my education and killed my future career; Keith Altman hammered the final nail in the coffin. Why did this lawyer not do his job, was he paid?

We take all client concerns seriously and appreciate the opportunity to provide clarity regarding this matter. While we are unable to discuss specific client details due to confidentiality, we would like to address the misleading and inaccurate statements presented in this review. Our firm was retained to investigate and address the client’s concerns regarding alleged falsified transcripts. After conducting thorough due diligence—including multiple communications with the university’s general counsel and independent verification with the relevant licensing board—it became clear that the allegations were unfounded. The client was informed that nothing was preventing them from proceeding with their professional licensing and that there was no valid legal claim to pursue. Attorneys have an ethical obligation not to pursue baseless litigation, and once it was determined that the proposed lawsuit lacked merit, our firm appropriately declined to file. Despite significant time and effort spent on the client’s behalf, we returned the unused funds in full. It is also important to note that at no point did our firm accept any payment from the opposing party, nor did any external matters—such as unrelated litigation between other attorneys—have any impact on the handling of this case. Furthermore, the client had previously retained another law firm, which reached the same conclusion we did, yet that detail was conveniently omitted from this review. We understand that legal matters can be frustrating, particularly when the outcome is not what a client had hoped for. However, our firm remains committed to ethical legal representation and ensuring that any claims pursued are legally sound. We encourage potential clients to rely on factual information when making decisions about legal representation.

DO NOT USE FOR SCHOOL/ APPEALS!!

Waste of time and ten thousand dollars. These people don't do a thing and hardly get anything done if anything at all. They are unresponsive and do the bare minimum for your case. On top of that, they are forgetful and have a hard time understanding your issue. So many broken promises from this firm.... Before acquiring their assistance, I was already on the right track with my appeal process and doing everything I needed to report my school. Keith promised reliable assistance in the appeal process and a "big brother" look out so the school faculty would not hassle me so easily, and if all failed, we would talk about the next steps into litigation (if it was necessary). They never actually wrote an appeal. They just literally repeated all my previous appeals and then put them into their own words that was abysmally wrote up. I had to change so much it was obvious Robert, my "rep" had no idea what was going on with my case. In total, I think he wrote three emails to my school that were all magnificently rejected. In the end, my school rejected all attempts for my "representitves" to reach out and talk. Keith Altman's law firm pretty much told me what I already knew from the beginning and gave up with their tails between their legs. The school said no, and Altman Law politely agreed with them and made no attempts to fight the school. I NEVER once spoke with a layer for the whole time I was using their assistance. I made countless calls and emails to Keith requesting assistance and a new representative and I never spoke with him after my first 300$ consultation. These people are scams! Please take your money elsewhere and do your research! I was desperate and wasted my money and pride with these "people".

Our recommendations and requests for your participation were critical steps in progressing your case. In some instances, incomplete actions or deviations from the plan made achieving your desired resolution more difficult. We regret that you did not find the support you were looking for in our team. Unethical and Unprofessional

The firm is unethical and unprofessional. The attorneys should be investigated for violating the Michigan Code of Professional Conduct. I lost $15,000, received no meaningful representation, and was left to defend myself in a workplace investigation. Furthermore, despite appalling and nearly non-exi...stent representation, they repeatedly refused to refund my money and, only after numerous requests, produced inaccurate and misleading billing records. By way of background, I have been an attorney for over twenty years. I am also a college professor. A student made false allegations against me in retaliation for a complaint I filed against the student for egregious misconduct. To be clear, the allegations against me were false. I contacted this firm and paid $150.00 for an initial consultation, where I spoke to an attorney from Boston for about five or ten minutes (the firm is based in Michigan). He quickly requested a fee of $15,000 to represent me. After that, I never heard from him again. Also, I had one meeting with Mr. Altman to discuss my case, which lasted no longer than fifteen or twenty minutes. Over the next three months, I never heard from him again. Instead, I was given a non-attorney assistant, whose responsibility was essentially to answer my questions, even though he was not qualified to provide legal advice. In fact, over the investigation's three-month period, this firm spoke to the university once and drafted two poorly written letters to the university in which they misstated the facts. Quite frankly, they were embarrassing. When human resources released their report, I was forced to spend hours drafting not one, but two written responses and ultimately resolved this situation myself. I contacted the "assistant" to complain about their conduct. He admitted that he "dropped the ball" and apologized. After that, I never heard from him again. Instead, out of the blue, I received a call from an attorney in another state -- recall, the firm is based in Michigan -- who was suddenly assigned to my case. I had never spoken to this attorney before, and the attorney asked me what I would like the firm to do for me. At this point, I was so appalled because it was obvious that retaining this firm was a terrible mistake. The attorney ultimately wrote one more letter, and I was left to fend for myself until the investigation was officially concluded. After many hours of drafting responses and meeting with university officials, the investigation was resolved favorably. But I did all the work. Ultimately, I lost $15,000. I demanded a refund repeatedly. Indeed, in a good-faith effort to resolve the matter, I compromised and said I would accept a refund of $7,500. They refused. What's worse, I repeatedly requested their billing records; when I received them, they were inaccurate and misleading with, among other things, duplicate entries for the same conversations or tasks, and no indication of how much time was spent on them. It was shocking. For the past year, I have hesitated to file a complaint against this firm because I feared that the firm would respond with falsehoods. After speaking with my attorney colleagues, however, and showing them the billing records, they were adamant that I should file a complaint with the Michigan State Board of Ethics. I intend to do so, and caution everyone to not, under any circumstances, retain this firm.

Thank you for your feedback. We take all reviews seriously and empathize with your situation. That said, we strongly disagree with your characterization of the work provided in your matter. The scope of the work for your matter is outlined in the Fee Agreement you signed on April 19, 2023 which reads, in part, “our firm’s goal is to achieve a favorable resolution at the school level without the need for a lawsuit. Although we cannot guarantee the process, the outcome or the timeframes involved, we will do everything within our professional ability to obtain the best possible outcome for you at the school level.” The work conducted by my firm, including communication with the university and drafting responses, was done in line with the scope of our representation and as promised during your consultation, at which time I also clearly indicated to you that a non-attorney Advisor, with significant experience in education, would facilitate your matter. While we regret that you were dissatisfied, we maintain that our work was of high quality and contributed significantly to the positive result you had.

Believe the negative reviews

Hired them for a school dismissal, as another person previously said in their review Mr. Altman claims he knows the schools attorney and has a good rapport. The initial letter written by their advocate was very elementarily written and the lack of communication after the letter is sent left much to ...be desired. When I wanted to speak directly with the attorney I was treated as though I was being a bother, after spending thousands of dollars I believe I am warranted at least one conversation. In the end the answer remained the same but the effort behind it was not worth what it cost. When getting dismissed from the school you are truly at the school's mercy do not pay an attorney unless you have an actual legal matter that has some sort of precedent behind it; do not use for academic dismissal otherwise you are truly wasting your time and money.

We apologize if our communication fell short of your expectations, we strive to maintain open and clear communication with all our clients. As for the opportunity to speak directly with Mr. Altman, we understand the importance of direct communication with the attorney handling your case. We are sorry that you felt you were treated as a bother. We understand that the outcome of the case was not what you had hoped for, and we empathize with the frustration that comes with such situations.
