Quick to take money; slow to do the work

My husband and I set up our trusts --- one for each of us in 2006. I believe the cost was $2500 and the process seemed to go smoothly. Then in November, 2012 my husband died. In early December I went in to Nancy's office to arrange to update the trust. I came in with all the requested files, death... certificate AND PAID THE $3500 UP FRONT REQUESTED. January 24 I received a notice from Transamerica, one of the investments held by my husband, questioning why they hadn't received the paperwork for the settlement. I contacted my paralegal also reminding her of several other things that needed transferring into my name and she assured me she was "working on it". She also requested and received another death certificate. In early March I was AGAIN contacted by Transamerican and also Lincoln National, another investment, inquiring why they hadn't received the paperwork to complete the settlement of the claim. When I contacted the paralegal to remind her, she also asked for other information that I had provided previously. Lincoln National and Transamerica were finally settled in April but there were elements of the settlement not finished until AUGUST and even then there were typing mistakes that fortunately I caught before I left the office. I feel I paid my fee in December, then my needs were put on the back burner. As a contrast, my husband had a Prudential Insurance policy that I settled myself with Prudential walking me through the process including getting an EIN number from the IRS. It took 3 to 4 weeks. Why did it take the "professionals" 4 + MONTHS! In addition I was assigned to 3 different paralegals with no notification of the change. I found out when emails no longer worked or didn't get answered. This was not a good experience---my advice is to check with your friends and relatives---particularly if after a death you anticipate needing money quicker than a quarter of a year down the line.

Dear Barb: I am so sorry that you felt compelled to submit your comments at this time. I have reviewed your matter once again and it was my understanding that in 2013 we had resolved your concerns. Again, my apologies for your perceived delay. If you would like to discuss any additional concerns stemming from your 2012 legal services engagement, I would encourage you to give the office a call and we could discuss the matter further. Very thorough service

Thinking that we just need to polish up a few things on our estate plan, we were carefully walked through every contingency, and we feel like we are very well covered.

Actual "client"

Just the facts: Based on a recommendation we cold-called Nawrocki for a consultation. We were offered an hour to hour and a half consultation price: $350. No other information was offered on the phone other than to say the consultation fee would apply toward our eventual service at the firm. Our app...ointment occurred Thursday February 15th 2018. We knew what we were looking for and told Nawrocki when we sat down: a trust, powers of attorney, a lady bird deed for our widowed father's home. Based on this information Nawrocki gave us her non-negotiable flat fee of $4800.00 [for us at least]. Our elderly father was ready to pay, I quickly interceded. Once Nawrocki determined we were unlikely to sign- she abruptly got up and left the meeting room. Total time of our $350 dollar consultation-- less than fifteen minutes. We received no useful information at all. I'm sure Nawrocki's opinion is that her Cadillac service is worth it, we engaged a perfectly competent attorney for a third of this cost- we were only going to buy what we need but it cost us time and money to find out. Net: a $350 dollar lesson. Perhaps your results will be different.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that you did not like the price quoted, there is a reason for it. Our policy is to draft a trust or other documents to our standards. We provide expert legal advice and invest substantial time being thorough and in keeping up with the latest changes in the law at the state and federal level. I advise all of my potential clients that we are not in the word processing business but put great forethought into what we produce here. We track our time and are confident that our prices are fair for the level of legal services provided. We are glad you found a lawyer to do your work at a price you are comfortable with and we hope that the legal service provided was based on the legal knowledge and experience necessary to meet your needs.

She is a lawyer's lawyer

I am a retired lawyer, having practiced in areas involving the health care industry. When my wife and I needed help for personal matters related to elder care I knew I didn't have the specialized expertise necessary. One of Nancy's free seminars convinced me that she knew what she was talking about s...o we hired her and have been extremely pleased with her advice, her document preparation, her staff and the results of her efforts on our behalf, particularly with respect to the Veterans Administration and Medicaid. We recommend her highly.

"I am very pleased to give this endorsement for Nancy. Nancy is an excellent lawyer, and she is on my list of attorneys who I make referrals to. For that matter, I would be glad to have a family member of mine use her services as an Elder Law attorney. From the first minute you meet Nancy, you will be impressed at the depth of analysis and understanding that she brings to the legal issues. And just as impressive is her genuine concern and caring for her clients and their familes. Nancy is truly a trustworthy guide for clients and their families who are planning ahead or facing an elder care crisis."
