Nice guy, bad lawyer

I hired Lowell Friedman for two family court issues and paid him the non-refundable retainer he asked for. We consulted several times regarding both issues. He handled the first part of my case then abruptly told me I didn't have a strong case for the second issue. He refused to refund the other half... of my retainer and stopped returning correspondence. Be aware his office does not send invoices. I had to request an invoice countless times to get an accounting of my retainer balance.

Top Law Firm in the Metro Detroit Area

Back in January, I reached out to Lowell Friedman's offices and I would have to say it was one of the best decisions I had ever made. I had gotten myself into some pretty serious trouble (DUI) and also picked up a few other charges with the City of Royal Oak and I was so nervous and worried about ...what was going to happen. But when I had my first consulting session with Lowell, he was able to really make me feel relaxed and assure me that there was a remedy. From the front desk staff, legal assistants and even the associates, everyone was very friendly, compassionate and professional. Lowell, James, Rene and Olga went above and beyond making sure all the information was communicated to me promptly about my court date and making sure I understood everything that was happening every step of the way. Lowell's Offices also had reasonable rates and were even able to put me on a payment plan. I would highly recommend Lowell and his team to anyone who may be in a tough situation and may need legal assistance.

Public Intoxication

Lowell did an outstanding job as my Lawyer. I made a poor choice and was guilty of a misdemeanor of public intoxication. I got black out drunk and tried walking home. I fell and knocked myself up and woke up in the hospital. With this being said I had an excellent track record with no prior incidents... of any kind. I am an engineer and had been out of college 2 years. Lowell was able to get this dropped to a double Civil Infraction which is just a fine without any further consequences. This was a great life lesson for me and I was really grateful to Mr. Friedman. I highly recommend him not only for his service but he also was very fair in his pricing. For the cost and his help there is not a better lawyer in Royal Oak.

An excellent attorney and trustworthy gentleman

Lowell was able to negotiate my 2-point no-insurance/tailgating ticket to a 0-point ticket and a $305 fine despite that the ticket indicated "no deal" meaning no plea bargain. I was pulled over on my motorcycle after a police officer pulled out 50 yards in front of me, drove up to 45mph (the speed li...mit), threw on his brakes, then proceeded to pull me over for tail-gating and not having proof of insurance. Being laughably provocative and demanding that I keep my high-theft-rate bike in a nearby ally overnight, I was unable to even speak that leaving minimal distance between me and him was safest given it was night time and few car drivers are actively paying attention for motorcycles, let alone able to see motorcycles as well as cars at night. Contrary to the officer's tone that I was a hot dog rider, I was wearing a bright yellow high visibility jacket, and a $200+ silver (not black) snell-rated helmet. It was obvious to me that he did not get me for speeding, so decided to find a sure reason to pull me over. While he said he had over 15 years experience, he was unaware that in Michigan, a motorcycle is not a motor vehicle. He also spoke to at least two separate police officers in-person, as I witnessed three separate police vehicles pull up to his car in a time-span of 15 minutes (two of the vehicles were markedly different). Because in michigan a motorcycle is not a motor vehicle, a michigan cyclist does NOT need no-fault insurance, as motorcycles are not part of the no fault program. However, you MUST have liability insurance, which I did not. Always be sure to have basic insurance if you must, as the rates are cheap ($15-$35/mo typical base rate) - certainly cheaper than a $305 ticket and $350 attorney fee.

A truly rare Attorney

Lowell is truly a unique attorney; he is talented, intelligent, down to earth, compassionate, and has an excellent grasp of the law, all of these things without being arrogant and/or condescending, as is often the case with highly talented attorneys. I have significant experience with attorneys h...aving worked with many of them, from all types of legal disciplines, throughout my management career. When it came time to find a personal attorney to represent me during my divorce I was more than aware of the disaster that poor representation could cause. Lowell was recommended to me by another attorney that I highly respected. His praise and recommendation was not misplaced. From the first meeting I could tell that Lowell knew what he was doing and that his primary goal was not to run up billing hours but to accomplish the task at hand with the least amount of suffering for both parties. Lowell went about his tasks from a consultive approach and was so effective that my wife replaced her attorney after several weeks because she realized that her attorney was aggressively running up unneeded billing hours. With her new attorney, Lowell was able to bring us to common ground and finalize the divorce in just over four months and for a minimal cost. Lowell's handling of the case saved me at least $50k and more importantly, Lowell and his staff saved my emotional sanity. Not only would I highly recommend Lowell, I have already recommended him. To this date, I have sent three of my friends to him and even my ex-wife uses him as her legal consul (I doubt many attorneys can claim that they are so good that the opposing party switches to them).
