We have just concluded a case in the Macomb County Court. I have to say, the price he gave us was much better than what we have been told other attorneys charge for our type of case, he was quick to respond to my phone calls and texts, always early for our court date/times. Cy Abdo helped our family through a major crisis when he agreed to be our defense attorney. My son had been charged with a felony and a misdemeanor, and we had five days until his court date. August of 2010 I was charged with felony and immediately hired and off-the-wall attorney. The case went nowhere for 8 months. That is when I fired my initial attorney and retained Cy. I told Cy about my situation and my military career was in jeopardy. Within two months, and proper litigations with t...he prosecuting attorney, Cy and his staff was able to reduce the charges to a simple misdemeanor with a $300 fine and no probation. When I moved to Michigan, I was unfortunate enough to receive a D.U.I. Not being from the area, I looked into the phone book and picked out the biggest add from the yellow pages for my first lawyer. I paid him $5,000.00 to take my case. I thought he would be a great lawyer, just from the basis of whe...re his office was and how much he charged. Well, I soon learned that I was wrong. After him showing up late, lying to me, not preparing me for court, and never hearing from him again, I was hit with the worst possible fines and penalties. I felt alone and confused and was blindly stuck in the court system. That's when I found Cy Abdo. He was able to take my case and present it directly to the head of probation, have my final court date dismissed, charge me a reasonable fee, and still to this day will answer legal questions for me even though I presently reside in AZ! I went there because I had been arrested, but no formal charges were brought yet. He didn't tell me I didn't need an attorney yet. I gave him $1750 in advance. (What if I wasn't formally charged with the crime?). He did tell me, at great length, how great a lawyer he was. Showing me a book of thank y...ou cards from prevous clients. He also said he had some exceptional rating from the Bar Association. I guess I was gullable enough to believe him at his word. Then he swipped my credit card thru the machine... AT HIS DESK! After that he & his receptionist would get annoyed if I called, for any reason, no matter how important I felt it was. I had never been in a position like this before, I had some questions! He didn't show for my arraingment, sent some "guy". He did show for my day in court. Told me how much he would charge if it went to trial, (Basically, talking me out of going to trial). I wouldn't plea guilty, though he suggested it, because I wasn't guilty. I asked what other choice I had, he said "no contest", I guessed that was better than guilty. He told the Judge I was to plea no contest for civil reasons. (He explained that this was so no one could try to ask for damages). When sentinceing came I was given probation and told that a "nolo" plea was a guilty plea by my probation officer. I was given 6 month probation PLUS had to pay the "victim" restitution! Mr. Abdo dismissed this as nothing worth fighting for! Though it is only a misdemeanor assault... that I didn't do, it's no big deal to him BUT it sure is a big deal to me. I spent over $3000 on something I really didn't do. And he got $1750 for something he really didn't do. I am disabled and on Social Security. I couldn't pay the fines, court costs and restitution in cash, plus his $1750 on the credit card too, so now Capitol One has filed suit to collect. I have nothing so they will get nothing. Bottom line here is: Shop around and find someone who will work as your representative and is willing to answer your questions.
