Wisdom, wit, and a real compassion for his clients

Roy Graham was very thorough up front and steadily held to his word, my son had a complicated case and Mr Graham was very persistent with working with the prosecutor to come to a resolution that worked out for everyone without the need of going to a trial. He was very clear in the costs right from t...he beginning and kept diligently working to keep the cost down to get the best possible outcome he was always available when we needed to speak with him and is very knowledgeable of the Bloomington Indiana judicial system and his colleagues. I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of a lawyer that is looking for straightforward answers.

Roy is very knowledgable and fair, and a good person

Mr. Graham represented me on two separate cases. The first was an expungement hearing for a misdemeanor plea. The second was a dissolution of marriage with minor children. I found Roy's contact information on this site and contacted him (quite late at night) and to my surprise he answered right aw...ay. We developed a fee structure and he explained the process to me very thoroughly and clearly. His fees were very reasonable and the expungement was filed right away, with a hearing to be scheduled later. The expungement hearing was very brief and the order was issued without complication. A preliminary hearing was also scheduled for the divorce filing, in which Mr. Graham also represented me. I did not know what to expect at the hearing, but Roy reminded me to relax, tell the truth and answer the questions respectfully. The judge was fair to both parties and while I did not receive the amount of parenting time I wanted, it was within state guidelines. Support arrangements were made and a temporary division of assets was determined. Mediation was scheduled and an agreement was not reached. Roy had other commitments the day of mediation but he was flexible and able to help me during the process. A final hearing was then scheduled, delayed, and rescheduled. Prior to the final hearing, Roy helped me prepare our case and any evidence. The hearing did not go the way either of us expected but Roy kept his cool and his example was very encouraging. A judgement was never issued and we ended up settling the matter out of court. Roy is very fair, he is also very knowledgeable when it comes to family law and the court system in general. He is easy to communicate with and would always return calls or emails right away. He does have a lot of clients and can sometimes become distracted. When working with him sometimes clients would call on his cell phone and he dealt with those as they came in. But I wouldn't say he is necessarily unorganized, just overworked. He values good communication and healthy relationships, and I think he genuinely cares about me as a person and not just a client. I would recommend Roy to anyone in this situation and would absolutely have him represent me again.

Traffic citation SNAFU

Roy was recommended by my company's Legal Shield service to assist with my wife's traffic citation (driving while suspended.) We had to pluck through a couple of confusing issues involving the documents sent by Enterprise Rental to the Indiana BMV. (My hat's also off to Enterprise in Columbus, IN fo...r working with us.) Roy's patience with us from the first meeting through the court hearings was phenomenal. He has a great working relationships with the local prosecutor's office and the judges. He was methodical and excellent in communicating with us. His guidance was helpful, again especially as there were numerous requests for documents from other companies. He kept in close communication with us in preparing for the hearings. I highly recommend him to anyone seeking an attorney in this area.

Getting Life Back on Track After Divorce

In the beginning of my divorce, my now ex-wife took off with my kids to another state, cheated on me, drained our shared bank accounts and served me with divorce papers. When she returned, she lied to the police and the court, saying that I was violent without any evidence to support her claim. Nee...dless to say, I'm not a violent person, she was manipulating the legal system to her advantage. The police showed up at my door and served me with a protective order, effectively evicting me from my own house and making me homeless. I lost everything. My entire life was pulled out from under me like a cheap rug. I was isolated from my children in the beginning as well. That's when Roy stepped in and fought for me. Even though the protective order was still in effect, he was able to make it so that I could return to my house briefly to pick up my most valuable and sentimental possessions. More importantly, he fought so that I could have parenting time with my children after six long weeks of no contact. Months had passed where my ex and her attorney kept delaying their promise to drop the protective order while postponing mediation and court hearings so we could eventually settle this. When we finally went to mediation, Roy was firm that we would not move forward with negotiations until my ex and her attorney agreed to drop the protective order, which they ultimately did. Before going into mediation, Roy advised me to wait and see what offers my ex and her attorney put on the table and that I always had the option to say "no," to whatever they proposed until I was satisfied. This was very sound and wise advice because the mediator came to me saying she wanted to take the kids out of state, to which I obviously refused. The mediator left and came back and said that my ex suggested she would allow me to follow her out of state, to which I refused again. I told the mediator that my house, my job, and everything my kids ever knew is right here and I'm not letting her run off with my kids again. The mediator left and came back a third time with a new offer on the table: I could keep the house, the equity and all of my retirement and liquid assets if I just let her and the kids go. I told the mediator quite bluntly that I would not allow my ex to buy my kids. The mediator left and came back for the fourth and final time with a modification to the last offer: I get to keep all of my assets- the house, retirement, etc., if I let her take the kids to Indianapolis. I looked at Roy and he said, "Indy is a lot closer than where she wants to go, I'd take it if I were you," to which I agreed. From there, Roy also negotiated more weekends with my kids and arranged for her to do more traveling for pick-ups and drop-offs because I had to do all of the traveling during the beginning of the proceedings to get my parenting time. I walked away from that divorce in better shape than most divorced dads do. I'm currently back in my house, I get to see my kids more often than every other weekend and I don't have to cross state lines to get my parenting time in with them. I owe it all to Roy. He's firm, he's ethical and best of all, he's affordable. He helped me get my life back on track and I didn't have to break the bank to do it. I would strongly recommend Roy Graham to anybody who lost everything like I did, and needs to get back on their feet again.

"Mr. Graham is fair to his clients and cares about the children involved in family matters. He also treats his opponents with respect which is refreshing the area of family law where so many practitioners seem to want to destroy the opposing party. Such tactics are rarely in the best interest of the children."
