Michael has had extremely diverse experience throughout his legal career. Although he excelled in both Personal Injury and Workers Compensation litigation, his primary focus and passion has always been Criminal Law and Civil Rights Litigation. Michael has tried many cases before a jury and has an amazing track record of success. His aggressive approach has proven successful both in and out of the court room. Michael has appealed cases and argued before the 6th Circuit United States Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, Ohio as well as arguing cases of first impression with citings in Tennessee Case Law.
MICHAEL RITTER is an Oak Ridge, Tennessee native and a proud graduate from Oak Ridge High School. Following graduation, Mr. Ritter joined the United States Army and served with the 319th United States Army Security Agency in Lubeck, Rothwesten, West Germany. He held a Top Secret Clearance and was stationed on the East/West German border. He is a proud Veteran; member of the VA and is active in the support of Veterans.
Following active duty and his discharge from the military, Mr. Ritter attended the University of Tennessee and earned his Bachelor’s degree in American History.
While obtaining his degree, Michael worked at Y-12 Nuclear Facility as Shift Technical Coordinator and was responsible for writing Operation Procedures for the Metal Preparation Division. Mr. Ritter then became an Independent Owner/Operator Trucker for Interstate Contract Carriers. Michael was able to accomplish his dream of driving in 48 states in the US and throughout Canada. After seeing the United States, Mr. Ritter accepted a position with the company to assist them with originating and developing operational procedures for the Safety Division.
After working for thirteen years, Michael returned to studies and attended Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago-Kent School of Law, in Chicago. He transferred to the Cecil Humphries School of Law in Memphis, Tennessee for his second year of law school before settling in at the University of Tennessee, George Taylor School of Law. Michael earned his J.D. from the University of Tennessee in 1985. Among many distinguished attorneys Michael has assisted over the years, his most impressionable was working with E. Riley Anderson, former Chief Justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court while clerking at Joyce, Anderson, Meredith & Flitcroft.
Following graduation, Mr. Ritter accepted an in-house counsel position with Criterion Carrier Corp. in Winston-Salem, N.C. Desiring to return to his hometown and needing to satisfy his entrepreneurial spirit, Michael began his own general practice with Whitfield, DePersio, and Ritter in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Michael was also an associate with the Law Firm of Joyce, Anderson, Meredith, & Flitcroft in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and at the Ridenour & Ridenour Law Firm in Clinton, Tennessee.
Michael is married to Candi Ritter and they live in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. They are fortunate to spend weekends on their farm in Morgan County, Tennessee. Michael loves being outdoors and can often be found in his organic garden. Michael’s other passion is sailing, he sailed around Southern Florida and the Caribbean calling the ocean his home for a year.
