The Nurse Attorney’s combined experience:

Marjorie Chalfant is a personal injury trial attorney with 40 years’ of combined medical and legal experience.  Prior to becoming an attorney, Marjorie worked as a Critical Care Registered Nurse in numerous hospitals and nursing homes thorughout Central Florida.  She also worked at most of the major hospitals in the Seattle area, including Harborview, which is a Level I Trauma Center and is one of the top emergency/trauma centers in the nation.  Her nursing expertise focused on Emergency Room, Cardiac Care and Intensive Care Nursing - the most complex and rigorous specialties of medicine and nursing care.

Since graduating law school in 1991, Marjorie Chalfant has applied her extensive nursing experience to her law practice.  She specializes in wrongful death and catastrophic injury cases, representing patients and their surviving family members in medical malpractice and serious injury cases.

When difficult cases don’t settle, Marjorie Chalfant is ready to represent her clients through trial to get justice.  Knowing the medicine and being familiar with complex medical problems gives her a tremendous advantage in representing injured clients.

 Marjorie Chalfant’s nursing background:

After graduating from high school at the age of 16, Marjorie attended nursing school and was Vice-President of her nursing class (at the age of 17).  Throughout nursing school she worked as a Nursing Assistant in many Florida hospitals and nursing homes.  After graduating from nursing school at the age of 18 she continued her college education at the University of Central Florida while working as a Critical Care nurse.  While obtaining pre-requisites for law school, Marjorie Chalfant managed a cardiac rehabilitation and wellness program for Winter Park Memorial Hospital (now part of the Florida Hospital/Advent Health System), and started a very innovative pulmonary rehabilitation program for patients suffering with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) and other respiratory disabilities.

While attending Seattle University School of Law, Marjorie Chalfant worked at Harborview, a Level I Trauma Center.  After graduating from law school she continued to work as a Trauma Nurse at Harborview while building her own specialty medical malpractice and serious injury law firm in the Seattle (Bellevue) area.

Marjorie Chalfant keeps her nursing knowledge up to date and stays informed on the latest medical practices.  She knows the standards of care and what is expected of hospitals, nurses, physicians and other healthcare providers.  As an experienced Registered Nurse, she knows what goes on “behind the scenes” in hospitals and nursing homes, and she is extremely comfortable with reviewing and understanding medical records and complex medical issues.

 Marjorie Chalfant’s litigation background:

Although Marjorie Chalfant has experience with a wide variety of legal matters, her most outstanding talent is representing clients in medical malpractice and serious injury cases.  Her exceptional results with difficult and complex cases have demonstrated her advantage in having combined careers in nursing and law.  In addition to the satisfaction of getting justice for her clients, she enjoys the intellectual challenge and complexity of medical-legal cases.

Marjorie Chalfant has won and settled several multi-million dollar cases, including a $7,500, jury verdict in Charlotte County against Bayfront Health Port Charlotte (now renamed "Shorepoint Health") in September 2021, where the hospital was confident it would "walk away" from any accountability for the death of a 62 year old gentleman, and a $3,000, jury verdict in an difficult infection case where the defendant lawyers and doctors refused to pay more than $100,.  Similarly, she won a $500, jury verdict in a misdiagnosis case where the defendant physicians and their lawyers refused to pay a dime and expressed their confidence in winning a defense verdict.

She is best known for her medical expertise, aggressive representation of her clients and attention to detail.  In addition to practicing law, Marjorie Chalfant provides lectures to other lawyers, nurse-attorneys, and Legal Nurse Consultants on trial techniques and medical issues.  While practicing law in Washington State she was selected by judges and lawyers as one of the best lawyers in the State, earning prestigious Super Lawyer awards in 2000, 2001 and 2002.

  Marjorie Chalfant’s personal background:

Marjorie Chalfant has lived in Florida since she was 5 years old (before Disney World and in the days when Busch Gardens was just a garden and a brewery) and attended public schools in the Central Florida area.  She relocated to the Seattle area to live with family in the Pacific Northwest and attend law school, but returned to the Sunshine State after 15 years of “less-than-sunny” weather.

In addition to her successful careers in law and nursing, Marjorie Chalfant has 4 children and lives on a farm with dozens of animals, including dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, peacocks and horses.

Professional Representation
Ms. Chalfant took on my difficult case when no other attorney wanted to touch it. With most attorneys they like the cases with “ low hanging fruit” that are more than likely to be won. She took my case all the way to trial with a jury and won a favorable decision with them. This wasn’t an easy straightforward forward case, but she did a great job in getting me justice!! I would and have recommended her to friends and family.

Marjorie cares about her clients - it's not about the money. She has passion for her clients - she has drive to get justice!
I would recommend Marjorie Chalfant to anyone searching for legal advice having to do with medical malpractice. She is the best and is extremely knowledgeable regarding my wife's death. I had several attorneys prior to finding Marjorie, who only told me there was nothing that they could do, even after having my case in their offices for several months. All I got from other lawyers was more hurt and disappointment. But with Marjorie, she was different out of all the attorneys I experienced. She is very passionate about she does and she does everything possible she can to fight for you. Most importantly, she truly cares for her clients and makes her clients her first priority. She is very family oriented, which meant a lot to my children after the loss of their mother, because she could relate to them. Marjorie is a remarkable person and a gift from God. I know she was sent by God to me and my children. Marjorie deserves more than 5 stars for her review. I would highly recommend her because she knows justice, she understands justice and she will get justice!

I would recommend her to anyone needing a good, dedicated attorney
I would recommend Marjorie to anyone needing a good, dedicated attorney. The fact that she is also a nurse overwhelms me. She has to earn CEUs in order to keep her license current. This is a woman who is dedicated to what she does. She won't take a case she doesn't think she can win. I sought her out after my premature daughter died. This was 26 days after I went to the E.R. and was treated for a kidney infection or stone when I was actually in labor the entire day. My doctor and the nurses seemed to be in shock when an ultra sound showed that the baby was crowning. Baby Girl died 26 days later from "extreme prematurity." Marjorie won a settlement from my doctor but hasn't stopped there. It's been a very long and costly battle with the hospital but Marjorie hasn't quit. She is dedicated as I stated earlier. Visit her page and you will see my story. This review is about her. She answers my questions promptly, doesn't patronize me, and if I don't understand something she explains it in a different way. I've seen her in action and she has no problem standing her ground against arrogant doctors. In fact, she taught my former doctor a thing or two he didn't know.

Highly recommend Lawyer especially in the field of medical malpractice. / Skilled in medical documentation.
My experience with Ms. Marjorie Chalfant in reference to our medical malpractice case is phenomenal, a very complex and highly challenging case that was turned down by several lawyers from the start. Nobody wants to handle/accept this case since it requires a lot of resources and extensive studying, some says its an uphill climb. Several of our expert witnesses turn their back when they reach the stand, ergo, making the case more complicated and very risky. To complicate further, most of the witnesses lives outside of the United States and requires a lot of financial resources, planning and strategy just to continue the litigation that took us more than 4 years. With all this hindrances, it did not stop Marjorie to pursue this litigation, she believes that a just and fair compensation should be awarded to us, her client. We settled the case in a very favorable and comfortable amount of compensation thus for me tantamount to winning a verdict..More power to you Marjorie.. Hope you can be of help to more people out there that needs justice vis-a-vis to the medical field.

Relationship: Worked together on matter
"I have known Marjorie for three years, and have co-counseled with her on several medical malpractice cases. Marjorie is an exceptional plaintiffs' medical malpractice attorney. I have never known another attorney as skilled at interpreting medical records and "reading between the lines" to discover what really happened in a medical malpractice case. She has a superior understanding of medicine and medical charting primarily because she was a registered nurse for thirteen years, including several years as a critical care nurse in a Level 1 critical care hospital. She also uses handwriting experts to uncover medical records fraud, and is highly skilled at using "audit trails" and meta data to interpret electronic medical records. Marjorie also is an elite advocate for her clients before judges and juries. She has obtained seven-figure jury verdicts and settlements in cases rejected by other preeminent attorneys. Most importantly, she truly cares for her clients. I highly endorse Marjorie"
