In legal cases, contingency fees are a payment arrangement where the attorney only gets paid if the client wins or settles the case. In a contingency fee structure, clients do not pay upfront. The lawyer takes on the financial risk by covering the costs of preparing and pursuing the case. If the case is won or settled favorably, the lawyer's fee comes directly from the awarded amount.
