Biography
With extensive experience as a Public Defender, Steven Bell applies his knowledge of Florida's court systems to the cases he tackles as a partner at the law firm Meltzer & Bell, P.A. After graduating magna cum laude from Nova Southeastern University and becoming licensed to practice law in 2004, Mr. Bell joined the Broward County Public Defender's Office in the Juvenile Division. His determination and work ethic were recognized and he was placed in the Felony Division in 2007. He was named Managing Supervisor of the entire Juvenile Division at age 26, becoming one of the youngest attorneys to hold this position. In this capacity, he fought for the futures of minors facing charges such as a first DUI, disorderly conduct, and drug offenses.
On entering private practice, Steven Bell was a partner at the firm Ruiz, Bell, Clayman, LLC, where he handled many DUI and felony charge cases. In 2008, he joined The Ticket Clinic, where he was placed as the Lead Trial Counsel for Palm Beach and the remaining areas of Florida where there was no office location. In this capacity, he defended clients from hundreds of traffic violation allegations, pursuing many of them to jury trials.
In 2013, he teamed up with Lawrence Meltzer to form his own practice, Meltzer & Bell, P.A., where he aggressively defends those facing a range of criminal charges, from federal offenses to traffic violations, in the Palm Beach County area of Florida. He believes in providing a reliable defense that his clients can count on in their time of need, and he works tirelessly to instill every client with confidence in his abilities.

Replied last September 11, 2019In order to make sure I answer this clearly, i will get right to the point. I was retained on a very serious charge here. My client signed a retainer to do all I could on a serious accusation. I maintained contact with this client at all times, and zealously advocated for the client. It was only because of me that the charges were no filed. I had a very lengthy phone conference with the filing lawyer in the matter to discuss the legal and factual issues that should result in the matter being abandoned (after having done weeks of work to be prepared for this meeting). Had I not done what I did, the charges would have been filed and my client would have been facing prison time and years of litigation. I am saddened by any negativity towards my reputation and hard work. I made this matter go away for my client. The goal always is to quickly convince a State Attorney they should not proceed with prosecution. I can't imagine one would complain that a doctor cured their cancer too quickly? Again, this review saddens me, but I stand by my zealous and aggressive representation of this client and all of them as we here at Meltzer & Bell, P.A. treat everyone like family.

Bad decision
I hired Steven Bell over one year ago (August 24, 2015) to perform an expungement. His secretary Yanira immediately proceeded to drop the ball on my case by emailing vital documents (which required my signature, etc.) to the wrong email address. Replied last August 29, 2016Certainly I am sorry you feel this way. We value our clients and the results we strive for tremendously. Should you have other questions or concerns, I encourage you to call me directly as I would be happy to talk more about it over the phone. Again, sorry you feel this way about my firm. Certainly this review is not a reflection at all of the type of work, the results nor the attitude we take when representing our clients. It is customary that expungements take anywhere from 10-13 months. I have seen them take longer. I just hope it is done soon so you can move on from it as well. I know it has been frustrating. Hopefully you can understand our position and that our firm wants nothing but the best for you. Have a nice day and week and we will be in touch when we receive the certificate of eligibility back. Even in the face of a review like this our firm will not lash out or respond negatively to a client that we are working hard for. We will continue to do so regardless of your review.
