Civil DV

Brett called me back within an hour or 2 after an inquiry I made at night looking for an attorney. I had a civil domestic case coupled with demanding time constraints on top of being in between jobs and cities. Brett handled this extremely efficiently and proficiently. I highly recommend him to anyon...e in need of an attorney who can take on especially in a timely matter. I owe him my peace with this. He is excellent.

Took care of everything in a timely manner. When I had a question it was answered extremely fast. Attended court for me each time I only had to go once. Extremely knowledgeable of the law but most importantly very down to earth and a great guy. Told me and guided me each step of the way and got sente...nce and probation reduced. I would recommend Brett to anyone.

Not an attorney I would recommend.

I don't recommend Mr. Schwartz. He is very disrespectful, untrustworthy and has a "my way or the highway" attitude. Mr. Schwartz willingly and knowingly missed a hearing in front of the criminal judge after his promises of attending the hearing. This was due to a conflict of interest as I hired... and fired someone at his firm to represent me with my divorce. After pleading with him, at the point of almost begging, he agreed to appear. But only if I agreed to pay him an additional $750 to attend a 15 minute hearing. His reasoning was that he only initially agreed to appear because Mrs. Williams was on the case. But since she is no longer representing me, he refused to attend. The only way he would attend was if I paid him an additional $750 on top of the thousands i already paid him. I attended that hearing alone, represented myself without Mr. Schwartz and prevailed. The final straw was when Brett Schwartz lied to me a second time. We had discussed that he would set witness depositions on separate dates. He agreed and notified me that the only concern he had was additional cost. I told him I am willing to incur those costs and he stated he understood and that he would schedule them separately. After this, he scheduled them on the same date without my knowledge or permission. When I confronted Mr. Schwartz, his response was very short, if I don't like what he's doing, "fire me and get another lawyer." I told him I was happy to, as long as he refunds me my money. His response: "Not happening". I have all of these on record as this conversation happened all through text simply because Mr. Schwartz refused to answer his cell phone. This is a good thing because I have every record of his temper, his disrespectful and unprofessional attitude, and finally his unwillingness to respond promptly. When an attorney tells you to fire him or her, take their advice. Mr. Hager, his law firm partner, replied to my negative review of him and I commend him for that. And yes, Mr. Schwartz did indeed defend me during that bond revocation hearing. But what he didn't state, was that Mr. Schwartz was the one that unknowingly sat me next to that woman. He pointed me and instructed me to sit there. Now, I am not saying it is Mr. Schwartz fault, which it simply isn't if he truly didn't know, however he did not defend me well in that instance either. Let me explain. I asked Mr. Schwartz if there were any cameras in that courtroom. We observed one, and I asked him to ask the Judge for that day's video. He responded to me, "Are you sure about that? Because if your lips even moved, you're in trouble." I said, "of course I'm sure, I didn't do anything and I have nothing to be afraid of. And whatever that that camera recorded is a God send." I understand he was looking out for my best interest, however I had the feeling that he didn't believe me. It took a lot of convincing even before he would bring it up to the judge. He also wasn't the one thinking about or advising me to look at the camera as evidence. In my opinion, a good advocate looks at all avenues and believes you are telling the truth. During this hearing, Mr. Schwartz would not let me speak on my own defense. Again, I understand he is looking out for me, but when I tell him that I made up my mind and that I want to speak, I expect him to respect that. I had to stand up and insist on defending myself to the judge, at which point I did. Credit is given when credit is due in my book. Did Mr. Schwartz defend me in that instance, yes he did. Did he do a satisfactory job in that instance, while I was not 100% satisfied, he did a somewhat satisfactory job. I would have been 100% satisfied (in this particular instance alone) if he had been the one to bring up the camera evidence and if let me speak. This instance in no way made up for the numerous other times where he did not perform his duties as an officer of the court satisfactorily. Stay away!!

In my fifteen years handling criminal cases, I have NEVER had a bad review or unsatisfied client. When a person hires a criminal attorney, they do so with the understanding that the "expert" they hired will utilize whatever legal strategy necessary to obtain the best possible result for the client. I have always done that and did that for the client who recently posted a bad review. This is an individual who was charged with strangling his wife. Within months of the felony case being filed against him (because his previous attorney could not keep it a misdemeanor), the prosecutor filed a motion asking the judge to revoke his bond and put him back in jail for making threats against his wife, which violated the stay away order previously imposed by the court. We went to an evidentiary hearing where I was able to convince the court to deny the motion and allow him to remain on bond. The client then DEMANDED among other things that key state witnesses be deposed at different times. I advised that based on my experience, it is better to take them on the same day to prevent discussion between the witnesses regarding questions asked. He was unhappy with such strategy and decided to find another attorney and has decided to post bad reviews because I refused to refund his legal fee, which we rightfully earned. This client had previously threatened on numerous occasions to write bad reviews if we did not do what he wanted. This is a client who was consistently uncooperative and dishonest with my office staff. We were not his first lawyer on this felony case and I bet his current lawyer will not be his last.
