Robert Francis Kohlman

Reading all these other reviews, I feel like I must be delusional. I had a different experience. I hired Mr. Kohlman to write a prenup. Before hiring, he verbally promised me that we'd be returned part of the retainer for sure if my fiancee was as uncontentious about the agreement as I claimed she...'d be. I followed my side of the bargain: my fiancee, after we found representation for her later, insisted w/ her attorney that she not fight for more on the prenup. Thus, Mr. Kohlman's prenup required pretty much no alterations besides what he needed to alter simply bc the first draft wasnt polished completely yet. We kept our side of the bargain, and reminded him of that, yet he sent *ME a bill saying I owed more!!!???? Another part of the deal was that we were trying to get married before the end of the year for tax purposes. Mr. Kohlman was extremely unresponsive throughout the entire drafting process; it quickly became clear that he was only responsive before we paid him, not after. I almost spent more time trying to call him and email him than he spent on the agreement. He probably responded to about 10% of my attempts to contact him. It was terribly exasperating. In the end, the bill he sent us included 3X more time billed for simply talking w/ opposing counsel than the opposing counsel (representing my fiancee) billed us for talking to him AND reviewing the agreement first AND discussing aspects w/ my fiancee. The final agreement is probably fine, but the entire experience was terrible, and I'm left wanting to sue him for malpractice.

We retained Mr. Kohlman for a Petition for Modification of Child Support and to address MSA issues. We were required to wire him his retainer (didn't accept credit cards). This was in April 2020. As of the end of June 2020 there was - in addition to Mr. Kohlman going missing for over a month - no pro...duction and no responses to my request for a refund of our retainer. I have filed a complaint with the Florida Bar and have filed a claim with the Clients' Security Fund. I would give Mr. Kohlman zero stars if this site allowed it.

My attorney--an associate at Robert's firm--was not able to represent me at the hearing for child maintenance because of a family emergency. So Robert contacted me the day before the scheduled hearing, and asked me a list of pertinent questions. I immediately knew he had picked up on issues that ...hadn't been brought up before. Armed with those facts, he immediately began to put on the pressure. His first emails to the other side were polite but soon turned cutting because of the delay tactics used by the other side. (This legel process, which also included a dissolution of marriage had been taking much longer than necessary considering it was such a simple case. The other side simply would not play ball, further racking up legal fees for me.) The following morning I met Robert at his office and clicked with him. He has extensive family-law experience, and I felt very comfortable going to court with him, regardless of the fact that the other attorney was trying to become a well-known TV commentator. Robert is direct, sharp and takes no nonsense, as a former journalist, as well. He did his homework quite quickly and ended up getting me an order for 45% more than we were initially asking for, plus attorney's fees. He is the man. And if you ever find yourself, sadly, needing a family lawyer, rest-assured you'd be in excellent hands with Robert Kohlman.
