Words can not express my appreciation to Mr. Hurd and his law firm. He took time to work on my case despite of busy schedule. Promptness and closer communication about what is needed to build a strong case was very important to me and he is excellent at doing that. Attorney Mr. Rusten Hurd and Paralegal Ms. Malisa Suwan represented me very effectively to apply for a same-sex fiancé visa in Ghana. This application was extremely difficult and time-consuming for all involved, and we dealt with many hurdles primarily due to the unprofessional and overtly homophobic behavior of certain high level Consular Officers in the U. S. Embassy Ghana. Even though we submitted nearly 1000 pages of documentation the Deputy Consul who interviewed my fiancé for an unprecedented three times demanded even more "bona fide" proof, so we provided it. This was clearly a case of discrimination and retribution on the part of Embassy personnel because I had the audacity to report their inappropriate behavior to the U. S. Dept. of State Office of Inspector General as well as Senator Bill Nelson's office. When the Deputy Consul refused my fiancé his K-1 visa two times Attorney Hurd communicated directly with the Consul General and repeatedly expressed our dissatisfaction with the manner in which they were handling this application. In the end he confronted the Consul General in a non-threatening and effective manner for what was clearly a case of discrimination and harassment of my fiancé on their part. I firmly believe that if Attorney Hurd had not taken these corrective actions that my fiancé would not have been granted a fiancé visa. Attorney Hurd came out fighting for us in an effective and professional manner when "push came to shove" with the U. S. Embassy Ghana Consular personnel, and I believe that was exactly what was needed along with my actions for us to achieve success. Mr. Rusten Hurd and his team were nothing but amazing to my husband and myself. As an American citizen married to a Norwegian, we went through an extremely difficult time and process fighting to be together in the same country. We were in the final steps of our immigration process, when the clinic where my husband had gotten his medical examination from forgot to fill out the medical exam application properly. We were very ignorant of the process, and didn't double check it before handing it over to immigration for our final step. During our interview with the immigration officer, he said would let us know his final decision by mail. We were so hopeful, hoping that this would be the end of our wait and we could finally be together without having to travel back and forth. The immigration officer sent us a letter saying my husband was denied his green card (adjustment of status) because "the doctor who did the examination said" that my husband did not provide identification at the time of the exam. Of course, that was untrue, and frankly impossible, as the clinic's staff would have never gone ahead with the exam had my husband not provided an ID. This made me furious and very upset to say the least. I looked for lawyers close-by and found Mr. Hurd. From the very first consultation, he was honest, straight to the point, understanding, and very kind. He suggested we go for a service reopening and that we contact the clinic and get a new copy of the examinations so that we could send them together, and hopefully the immigration office would reopen the case. This was not our fault that the clinic forgot to put my husband's ID number on the application form; it was a clerical error, and this was the point that Mr. Hurd made in order to get our case looked at a second time by another officer. One month after the case was reopened, my husband received his green card in the mail. I cannot express the gratitude that my husband and I have towards Mr. Hurd and his team. I recommend him 200%!
