Since 1999, I have practiced solely in the area of family law. In the context of a typical divorce case, I will address matters of property division, assignment of debts, determination of spousal support, determination of custody and visitation, and determination of child support.

Prior to entering private practice in Virginia, I was an active duty Judge Advocate in the United States Marine Corps for seven years. While on active duty, I spent a year and a half as a court-martial defense counsel where I dealt with a wide range of cases including child and spousal abuse as well as sex crimes. I was the Officer in Charge of the legal assistance office at Camp Lejeune. While at legal assistance, I dealt with a variety of family law issues including divorce, support, wills and estate planning, and consumer protection.

I then became the Staff Judge Advocate for the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit. During our deployment from 1995 to 1996, I provided advice to the command as well as individual Marines and sailors on a variety of criminal and civil matters to include custody of children and support of family members. I was later assigned to the Naval Justice School in Newport, Rhode Island to instruct judge advocates and paralegals on civil law matters of family law and estate planning.

While at the Naval Justice School, I participated in a military-to-military training program sponsored by the State Department that took me to a variety of countries including Bangladesh, Uganda, Ghana, Togo, Cameroon, Bolivia and Paraguay. After leaving activity duty, I maintained an affiliation with the United States Marine Corps Reserve. My latest assignment was as an appellate defense counsel at the Navy-Marine Corps Court of Military Appeals. I began my military career in 1985 as an enlisted infantryman.

I have used my background and experience in accounting to analyze complex financial matters arising in the course of divorce.

In addition to my formal education, I am also a graduate of the Pennsylvania Gunsmith School and Washington School of Photography.

Intelligent, responsive, Professional
My divorce was final two months ago a dn I must say that Mr. Miller handled my complaint with the utmost professionalism and expediency. He was responsive to questions and offered alternative solutions to inform my decision making. He is knowledge and experience in handling military cases was evident in how my case was handled. He was responsive to emails and calls and employed an efficient, courteous, and sensitive staff. I was also so pleased with the way Mr. Miller provided a regular, itmeized accounting of billed time and provided these documents regularly for my records. Should I ever require future legal services, I will seek out Mr. Miller and his staff without hesitation.

A Rare Find of an Attorney!
Mr. Miller is a rare find of an attorney. He really cares about his clients. He has the perfect balance of toughness (to fight for your case) yet he's honorable. You feel confident with him on your team, especially in a court room. He has a powerful yet calm presence that causes the opposing counsel to cower. We were very fortunate to find Mr. Miller and if you retain him as your attorney, he won't let you down. He certainly hasn't let us down!

Client SR
I have hired Mike about 2 years ago and still continue in surprising me with his extensive knowledge of the law and the judicial system. He also seems to read the judges minds because he always gave me an accurate perdicyion of their decisions.

Mike Miller review
I found mike to be very well versed in the law, kept me well informed throughout my dealings with him and promised nothing while obtaining the verdicts that benefited my case.

Experience makes the difference
Mr. Miller is an up front, honest lawyer. With a prior military background, he has the morals and ethics needed to do what is right. If you research his background, you will find he has a wealth of experience. He handled my case with professional ease, and achieved more than I thought possible. It was a pleasure working with him and his staff, and I have already recommended him to several others already.

Intelligent, hard working and caring = Mike Miller
Mike has been my attorney for the last three years. He is a hard working, intelligent, fair, aggressive yet respectful Attorney. He geniunely cares about me and my family and our well being and listens to you the client. When trying to describe his character in court, a quote comes to mind from Teddy Roosevelt..."speak softly but carry a big stick!".

I am retired. Our office was essentially closed the week of August 24. I have not had a client named Judith. No idea what this person is talking about. None of the alleged actions occurred.

terrible experience
I had a very negative experience with Mr. Miller as my divorce attorney. He is a smooth talker when you first meet him, but in court he was unprepared, disinterested, and needlessly argumentative. The sole weapon in his arsenal appears to be constant objections, which only served to annoy the judge, drag out the proceedings, and of course, raise his billable hours. He charges a low initial retainer, which seems nice, but he never informs you when your money runs out as he is happily charging you 18% interest. The only time he exhibits any true legal acumen is when he contacts his collections attorneys to get his money from you. I've read the other reviews of Mr. Miller on this site and I wish I had had that guy representing me. Sadly for me, the Mr. Miller I was saddled with bears no resemblance to the lawyer those people had. My advice is to not roll the dice on which Mike Miller you will get.

Response from Michael Miller April 4, 2017
“cb” came to Cole Miller PLLC through an employee benefits program, CLC. He received a free initial consultation and discounted rates thereafter. When he came to me, his wife had already docketed a hearing seeking relief to his detriment. I was able to avoid that preliminary hearing for him. Shortly thereafter, I was able to get him the custody and visitation he wanted by agreement, without a trial. On the matters of property and support that did go to trial, the judge used portions of my argument in her ruling. During his case, I sent “cb” monthly invoices that he ignored. I had to eventually file a collections action. To avoid the collections suit, he sought a fee arbitration hearing. The arbitration panel ruled in my favor and awarded me more than I offered him to settle the balance due. “cb” then threatened he would write adverse reviews on social media sites if I proceeded with collection on the balance due. He got the representation that the other reviews describe. His complaints about representation did not arise until I asked to be paid for my services.
