Lauren Jill Miller

I hired Lauren Miller after paying a $1,000 retainer for an evaluation of claims involving issues with financial institutions, and, separately, estate litigation for fraud. Based on her confident initial review of my documents and multiple verbal discussions, she confidently led me to believe that my... cases had merit and were strongly worth pursuing. Unfortunately, her performance fell far short of my expectations. After formally retaining her services, Ms. Miller depleted my $10,000 retainer in less than six months with no tangible movement in my cases or filings initially discussed and agreed-upon. She also filed representation documents with the court (just before withdrawing) and subsequent “leave of absences” documents for an upcoming hearing. After waiting awhile and requesting a formal date for movement and discussions with other parties, Ms. Miller did a complete 180 and abruptly withdrew from my case leaving me with unresolved legal matters and significant financial loss. Additionally, although there was no change between us and I pleaded in a previous email for her to show empathy to my situation and respond, she used cruel tonality and verbiage with a clear intent to cause distress upon me in her response. One particularly troubling issue involved documented wire fraud related to a major financial institution by another party. Ms. Miller claimed she never received documentation proving the fraud, yet she did in our initial consultations and I later discovered that those documents were actually included in my client file after her separation. This raises serious concerns that she either misrepresented the receipt of key documents or billed me for work she never performed, or is unable to keep up with critical elements of cases. Additionally, Ms. Miller initially took some preliminary steps in a related matter and even advised pursuing malpractice claims against another attorney only to resign stating that claims she believed had strong merit before her retention suddenly had “zero” standing when there were no material changes other than my retainer being depleted by her. I was prepared to refill it, but you can see why I didn’t. Throughout the process, her communication was severely lacking. I ensured all invoices were paid promptly. In contrast, Ms. Miller failed to follow up or confirm receipt of her communications, leaving me feeling ignored and unsupported. She is the only non-equity partner at her firm, and after this experience, I see why. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Lauren Miller, or her law firm Caldwell, Carlson, Elliott & DeLoach. Clear, ethical and transparent communication and billing, and diligent follow-through are essential qualities in legal representation, qualities that were sorely missing in my experience with her.
