Get something in writing from day one

When shopping around for a contempt of court case, a mutual Friend suggested Susan Brown. I read the reviews online and was skeptical, but my friend assured me that she would fight for me and do a great job. When I told Susan I didn't have any money left after my divorce she said that she only charge...s $2,242.00 for contempt of court and that includes her fees and filing fees. Fast forward 6 months and I could tell that she had not listened to my requests at all and failed to address 3 items that I specifically asked her to on top of making my ex husband pay for all of my fees. She did collect money from my ex that day, but instead of reimbursing me $2,242.00, she decided to keep his money and my money. After the contempt of court case I had to ask her 3 times for a bill in the hopes that I would bring attention to the fact that she needed to reimburse me for my deposit now that she has her payment from my ex. Once I received her first and only bill (that I had to beg for) not only did she fudge the numbers to look like she had earned the $2,242.00 AND the $3,500.00 my ex paid her on court day, she had the audacity to add a balance due of $2,024.74. The same bill that I had to ask her 3 times for and not once did she ever mention that the case was going to cost a penny over $2,242.00.

When hired by Ms Lindsey, I took a retainer of $2000, the rest of the fee was for court costs. I only charged this because she was a friend of a friend and she was already complaining about her prior lawyers fees charged. I told her at that time that she would not have to pay me anything more directly and that I would attempt to collect any additional fees from her husband. The contract she signed states she is liable for her entire bill. On our court date, this was a very convoluted contempt involving valuations of personal and business assets, her ex husband agreed to pay a certain sum towards her outstanding bill. As I promised, she never paid any additional fees to my firm than the original amount. I instructed my staff not to collect the remains balance from her, as I stated I would do due to our mutual friend. Now Ms Lindsey is attempting to recover the fees paid towards her bill from her ex-husband which was never our agreement.

Excellent Attorney

Susan represented me in a nasty divorce that lasted 2 years, because my ex-husband kept refusing to sign the papers. She fought for me the entire time, never backing down. She made sure that I knew exactly what was going on at all times and also made sure that I understood everything that was going o...n. She was always available to take my phone calls and answer any questions that I had. She made a very stressful time in my life much easier. The legal system can be very confusing, and she calmed my nerves every time. I would recommend her to anyone that's going through a divorce or custody battle. She fought for me and my daughter like we were one of her own. She's an outstanding attorney that gets the job done!

BEWARE!

We hired Susan July of 2011 to file a Child Modification and Contempt against Ex. The case dragged on for 2 1/2 years with worse consequences. She did nothing to deter the on going contempt nor filed any new counts against opposing or filing emergency hearings even though she claimed she would in n...umerous emails. She would also tell us over and over not to worry about the Guardian Ad Litem that "she was her good friend and they dine out all the time". She lies and only cares about where she can meet you for her next payment. We never received a bill or any of her filings. She does not answer emails and when she does it will be a vague one word or two.

Please be advised that I did not represent Joe Massaro. I represented his ex-wife.

Brown's character is clear

One incident in my dealings with Susan Brown illustrates her level of integrity. I agreed to pay an additional fee of $1,000.00 if she would arrange for me to visit my son in my home over the Christmas holiday. I got an email from Brown, "I did my part. NOW WHERE'S MY MONEY!" I agreed to drive to a S...tarbucks 35 miles away to deliver the money in cash. She texted me every twenty minutes until I handed off the money. I did not see my son for a week in my home. I did not see my son at all over Christmas. Susan Brown took her own family on a holiday cruise.

I represented this gentleman in a hotly contested custody case and Temporary Protective Order for Family Violence. Throughout the entire case and throughout trial my client was very thankful and in fact I have a message from him telling me what a good job I did. It was not until the Judge ruled against him regarding custody that I became the target of his hostility. When I submitted my final bill to him he began this disparaging campaign. The allegations made in his post are false.

Been my attorney since 2008

I hired Susan in 2008 to represent me when I was divorcing my second wife. I was more then pleased with the results. She communicated well, made sure I was updated through every stage of my divorce. She has since represented me in multiple child support modifications and contempt issues with my f...irst wife and I can't say that everything I hired her for came out exactly the way I wanted, but I believe she did her best to ensure I was properly represented. I have never had to chase her down or hound her for information. She responds to text of phone calls within a reasonable amount of time and has always expressed a caring attitude towards me. I will say some of her staff in the past was not very friendly or helpful, but that's why they are no longer employed by Ms. Brown

Relationship: Fellow lawyer in community

"I am a fellow local attorney here in Fayette County who practices family law and criminal defense. When I needed an attorney to help with my own personal divorce, I got Susan. We lawyers spend hours and hours in court waiting our turn and watching other lawyers do their thing. I've seen Susan in action and this woman knows her stuff. She has a top notch handle on the laws concerning family law. She is not afraid to take on certain male attorneys that try to intimidate or bully her. She sticks up for her clients, knows the law and works hard to get the best results. What more could you want?"
