I called Travis’s Law office, after getting as far as I could with the VA. I sent his team all the information I had and they went to work on my case. Travis called me with a plan of action, then quickly implemented it. He and his team made the claims process easier than I thought it could be. At ea...ch stage of my claim I was contacted and informed in detail what was going on. When the VA sent their decision, Travis’s team found that the VA had made a mistake and quickly filed for them to fix it. Jessica was always willing to answer any of my million questions throughout this process. I know I probably drove her nuts but she handled it with grace and dignity. I have had issues with my mental health from the time the Navy discharged me. These issues arose while serving as an Independant Duty Corpsman on the nuclear submarine John Adams, SSBN 620. After a critical medical evacuation of a shipmate, that I had diagnosed with an appendicitis, was killed durin...g the transfer from our submarine to a helicopter, I felt as if I had sent my patient to his death. For many years I suffered from the memories of that day in December. I did not know that I was suffering from the effects of PTSD. Many health care providers in the private sector, who I sought out for help, either told me that my issues would fade with time or prescribed medication(s) that dulled my senses. I felt betrayed without an advocate to help me, until I called Perkins Studdard. A very kind and compassionate first contact listened to my concerns when I called. Mellissa treated me as if I was her top priority. She encouraged me to submit any documents I had to her and an appointment with Mr. Studdard would be set up. During my phone interview, Mr. Studdard told me my situation had merit and that he would like to represent me. A case manager, Jessica, was assigned to me and the process to obtain relief began. I have never met such empathetic people who all seem to have a one goal, to serve the needs of Veterans. I would like to say that it was refreshing and reassuring to have Travis represent me during my VA case. Being older, not computer savvy, Travis and his secretary Jessica did an outstanding job helping me through the process. They went out of their way to guide me through all the steps necessary.
