Avoid at all cost

After living with an agreement that was mediated by Mr. Shafer in 2018, I feel confident in saying Mr. Shafer is a poor attorney at best. There are so many holes in the permanent parenting plan that my ex-wife has taken advantage of over the years. The moment I walked out of mediation I knew what I... had agreed to was a mistake. I sent an email the next day to Mr. Shafer and had a meeting with him. He indicated there was no way to get out of the agreement unless I was to go to the court and indicate that he was negligent. ( I should have done this, looking back on it now.) In general going to a big divorce firm is a terrible idea, you get a baby lawyer who talks to big brother lawyer how has 15 baby lawyers under them. You are just a number to them. Some of the ‘basic’ areas missed in my agreement are “any out of network health care expense has to be agreed upon by both parties”. Extracurricular spending should be split evenly between children. He missed that one as well. Why he thought advising me to give the ex-wife both medical and extracurricular is beyond me. In short, look else where for an attorney, these hacks just want your $$ ( well in fairness they all do). Divorce is awful and your first agreed to document will haunt you until your kids are 18

Excellent !

Ryan was outstanding. I had a very challenging alimony modification case with a very difficult ex husband. Ryan immediately took a strong interest in helping me sort though a previous lawyers mess. He worked through many possibilities to get the best out of a failing situation. My original agre...ement was filled with loopholes and improper terms not typical in an alimony divorce case. I guess you could say in my original agreement with my original attorney - I got screwed! Ryan and the other attorneys that helped with the case were very compassionate towards me and this challenging situation. It was one of the most difficult clients they have ever opposed. In the end what I learned was Meriwether And Tharp is an amazing firm- they have the highest integrity, knowledge and desire for , you the client to understand what is going on during a very difficult time in your life and get the best for you. . This is what sets the bar high and above everyone else. Their online resources are incredible- they want you to be educated. I learned more in the first 5 days with M&T then I did in 2 years with my old attorney. Having that knowledge is key. I Reffered a friend for a divorce during my case and she had an excellent outcome. I highly recommend Ryan Shafer . He is smart , excellent math and finance skills, compassionate yet holds a hard time when needed. If I had used Ryan and Merriweather and Tharp from the beginning I would be in a very different position. The circumstances prior to their help- set my case to be unfavorable - but what I did get was peace of mind, knowledge of the law, confidence in knowing they did their very best and the support needed to move forward with my life. Those items are priceless. Ryan Shaffer is highly reccomended- don’t let his age fool you - he knows his stuff and he truly cares. .

Change in custody after divorce

Ryan has handled my custody case with respect and haste. I came to him in July desperately needing to change custody due to a pending DFCS case against my child's father. He immediately got the ball rolling and has been sensitive to my time and financial situation. He took an aggressive path that has... paid off generously so far.

Phone Consultation

Ryan was extremely helpful during my free telephone consultation. He listened to my questions and concerns about a divorce and provided thoughtful responses. Despite being a free consultation, he did not rush me and answered all my questions. I am not ready to proceed forward with the divorce, but... when I am, I will call Ryan back.

Knowledgeable, professional & compassionate

Ryan Shafer was our attorney though an extremely difficult custody hearing and he was nothing short of outstanding. He was knowledgeable, professional and very compassionate with our situation. He took the time to meet and/or talk to us regularly throughout the process, was prompt to respond to our... questions/concerns and was all around very supportive, understanding and helpful. He was nothing less than extraordinary in all areas and I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking legal counsel, particularly in family law.
