Misleading

I had my first consultation with Mrs, Millard, after being served by my husband with a separation maintenance papers. Her first and strong advice was for me to file for a Divorce. She proceeded to explain why filling for a divorce was going to help my case. In her own words” the divorce will be a new... case, it will superceed the separation maintenance and you will become the plaintiff on the case”. A week after that meeting I sign in with the firm, but was assign to meet with her junior attorney. I trusted that the documents I was signing reflected the offer Mrs, Millard had made in our consultation, specially because our contract clearly said I was hiring the firm for the service of a “Divorce“. To my own ignorance, I signed a document call “Answer to a counterclaim for a Divorce”. After noticing in the document, that my name was still under the tittle of “Defendant”, I raise the question. The Junior attorney’s explanation was “when one person files a separation maintence the opposing party responds with a counterclaim for a divorce which will eventually convert to a divorce. I trusted and was satisfied with the explanation thinking it will change my position from a defendant to a plantiff once it will convert to the divorce. After many email communication of this firm with opposing counsel, I realized the firms position was to agree with everything opposing council’s requests. Mrs, Millard had some personal issues and was no longer reachable or involved in my case. A week after signing I receive my first bill, shock me, to see how much they were charging to correct their own mistakes. They were also charging the fees of an assistant as if she was a paralegal. 13 days after signing, I requested to meet with Mrs. Millard in person to express my disappointment on their strategy, billing issues and why I was still the defebdant in the documents. At that meeting the Junior attorney told Mrs, Millard, the client is saying you told them we will be filling a divorce as a new case in your initial consultation, Mrs. Millard agreed, She told her junior attorney, ”we could still file for the divorce and serve him with papers. Two weeks after our meeting no divorce was file and I received a second bill that added up to $4,200. I was so upset that they had continue to bill me for emails back and forth and the main reason I had hiring them to file the ”divorce ” was still not addressed. Mrs, Millard was still dealing with her personal issues and the Junior attorney seemed overwhelmed with the demands. After 5 weeks of useless correspondence and arguments about the bills, I decided to terminate the firm and ask for a partial refund. The fact that Mrs. Millard had miscommunicated my case to her Junior and filed the wrong document, put me in a very bad position. The firm postponed the 30 day conference, pushing out the days and increasing my attorneys fees. I requested to meet with Mrs. Millard in person and told her, how unprofessional the firm had treated my case. At this meeting her position changed and she said they took that route in order to save me money, as it would be expensive and difficult to serve documents to my husband. Mrs. Millard refused to refund any money. I confronted her with the overcharge fees for her assistance and her office manager insisted that her assistant was in fact a paralegal. After this meeting, I send the office manager Johanna Barajas an email requesting a copy of her paralegal’s certificate. Mrs. Millard responded to my email saying it wasn't necessary to request a copy if her certificate. She said she was willing to give me a refund for the difference in fee charges from assistant to paralegal. I haven’t received any refund. Be aware when hiring this attorney, she will tell you what you want to hea, Mrs, Millard will sound very professional and trusworthy. She will gained your trust, then she will pass your case to her junior and you won't hear from her again, Mrs, Millard was very misleading.

I had several meetings and phone calls with this client to discuss the issue of filing for divorce. We discussed the strategy we followed both before and after filing the answer and counterclaim. Each time I explained that the way in which we filed for a divorce was proper and it saved her both the filing fees and the fees to have him served. Additionally, filing the action as a counterclaim allowed the case to move forward instead of starting all over. We discussed each decision prior to any action on the case. The client changed her mind on strategy, asked we request unnecessary action from opposing counsel and insisted we pursue issues we advised against. Each time we advised as to the most logical and efficient way to move the case forward. Throughout the litigation, the client dealt with both myself and my associate. My associate, at the time, had been practicing 10 years. After the client decided to terminate the firm, we offered both a refund of certain fees and a refund of her remaining retainer. She only took the remaining retainer check. She also filed a bar complaint that was denied.

Awesome attorney

I highly recommend Millard Law Firm. Marcy and Jill represented me for my divorce and then a custody dispute. Both cases were difficult and traumatic for me, and Marcy and Jill helped me every step of the way. They were knowledgable and guided me through the entire process. They would advise me i...f my expectations weren't reasonable, and provided ideas about how to compromise in ways that were acceptable to me, which was extremely helpful. They never pressured me into any decision. They were very responsive to my correspondences. Marcy also was cognizant of keeping fees as low as possible, and would have her staff perform tasks that did not require her input. Marcy's staff are just like her in that they are friendly, respectful, and thorough. Marcy has been a lifesaver and I can't thank her enough!

Overcharging

I hired the Millard Law Firm, and Marcy Millard is an excellent attorney!! I spoke with Joanna, the receptionist, several times. She was quick-tempered and discourteous. During this time, I was told that I had an $800 credit, and I needed to replenish my retainer fee because I had a pending court ...date. I have documentation that states my bill has been paid in full. I have numerous unanswered questions regarding my case, especially billing issues. Joanna told me that there were fees that she forgot to add to my bill, which resulted in my account being drained. In addition to padding the bill, she also double-billed me for various services and charged me for a processor server that was not needed. She also told me that I could not speak to Marcy directly because an $800 credit was not sufficient to have a short conversation with her. I paid the second installment fee of $2500, and I was still unable to speak with Marcy after I made that payment. The only two times that I was able to speak with my attorney in-depth was during the initial consultation and the day of court.

I am unsure who wrote this review. The numbers do no match with any client I can find and I do not show up to court without at least speaking to a client to prepare the client for what will happen. I welcome the client to contact me to discuss their issues. I would like to have the opportunity to resolve any outstanding concerns.

fantastic

Marcy Millard and her team were fantastic throughout the divorce process. Her counsel was clear and concise. She or someone from her team promptly answered any of my questions. Mediation went smoothly because she made sure we were well prepared. She worked well with consultant accountants as well as ...opposing counsel. I would recommend Marcy Millard for your family law needs.

Best law firm and team to handle my case.

My case was handled swiftly from the beginning till the end. Marcy & Jill and all the ladies in the team updated me constantly. They also anticipated problems that might come up if I start up wrong in the case before I decide to proceed. They both gave me options which resulted amazingly quicker than... I anticipated. Although my case involved that I can be emotional with regards to going back and forth with my questions and emails they didn't try to suppress it but they let me express myself on the case. More power to the ladies team of Millard Law:)
