J. Stephen Grooms is a lifelong resident of Conway, South Carolina. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science in 2005 from the University of South Carolina. He received his Juris Doctorate from the Charleston School of Law in 2010, and has been a member of the South Carolina Bar since that time.
Grooms began his legal career in Charleston, SC, by working in a plaintiff’s litigation firm which handled a variety of plaintiff’s injury cases. He was involved in several complex civil cases, primarily in Construction Plaintiff’s Litigation. In May of 2011 Grooms accepted a position with the Horry County Solicitor’s Office. While working in the Solicitor’s Office Grooms handled over three thousand cases, and took numerous cases to trial achieving favorable results on cases ranging from drug offenses to murder. Grooms was recognized for his leadership and trial results and was promoted to Senior Assistant Prosecutor. His experience in the civil field and as a criminal trial attorney provides the knowledge to recognize the issues in your case, and the tools to represent you with confidence whether your case is criminal or civil in nature.
Grooms has been recognized for his achievements in the courtroom, but also in the community by the South Carolina’s Prosecution Commission as well and the Horry County Solicitor’s Office. Grooms married Ellen Hembree of North Myrtle Beach in 2015, and the couple resides in Conway with their chocolate lab Riley.
