Taking on Daunting Entity
The best way to add to these superb (and accurate) reviews is by saying that Ross was originally hesitant to take my case against the major medical presence in our county as they have a stranglehold on everything. He evaluated my wrongful surgery, outlined options and included me decision by decision. I am thrilled with the results. Ross worked hard, professionally and smartly, answering my emails at all hours. He was meticulous about stating pros and cons and allowing me to be the final decision maker. And OMG, he has a sense of humor, can be really tough and is a pleasure to work with.

Smart, determined and capable
Ross is a terrific attorney. He displayed an excellent grasp of our case, the relevant laws and worked hard to win. More important, he worked "smart" for us, by allowing us to take on some otherwise costly tasks, considering our comments, and being realistic about the potential outcomes. He tailored his advice to the situation in a way most attorneys do not, so that the final outcome was cost effective and as favorable as it could have been.

Mr. Roland Feldman
My wife and I purchased our first home, and were takin advantage of by the contractor who flipped the house. We were subject to several costly and concealed construction defects. Ross Appel took our case. Ross fought hard to win us a reasonable settlement. He took an honest steadfast approach to our counsel. He openly informed us of all the challenges we would face throughout the process, a 100% no B.S. perspective. He then proceeded to defend our property. We are truly grateful to have Ross as our Attorney. We hope everybody is as fortunate as we are, to have such a focused, honest, talented, hardworking defender of Truth as their legal counsel. Thank you so much!

Great Lawyer
Ross left no stone unturned and took no prisoners. He handled our complex corporate litigation with great effort and aggressive finesse. If you see Ross coming at you from the other side then you better get your ducks in a row. Make no mistake, Ross is the boss.

Securing Permit for Short term Rental for "Waterway Charleston"
Ross was recommended to me by a local Charleston lawyer as the "best attorney in town" for my particular case. I met with Ross, at his offices, who, in a very short time picked up on my particular situation. After hiring him, to represent me at a hearing in front of the Charleston County Board of Appeals, we had a satisfactory outcome. His command of the case details and the pertinent law was most definitely a major factor in me achieving the desired outcome.

Responsive, pro-active Representation ...
In this instance, I found myself in a disagreement about a real estate Partition. I engaged Ross Appel of the McCullough Kahn Firm (359 King Street, Charleston). Immediately, Ross (the consumate professional) jjumped on the case and settled my nerves and, the other side's aggressive tendencies. Independently, Ross prepared a spreadsheet of three probable outcomes and identified my minimum and maximum exposures. Ross quickly resolved the case without litigation and without formal mediation mechanisms. Throughout the process, Ross focused on our goals, my budget and the real-world exigencies. I offer Ross Appel my highest recommendation!

Community Association & Regime Issues
He was very thorough & very creative in ways that helped our case. He developed the agenda of the key issues we wanted addressed in our meeting with the Kiawah Partners & with the Planning Commission. They were well presented in a non- confrontational mannering. I have high praise for the successful work he did for us!

Smart, Dedicated, Passionate, Competent
Ross was referred to me by a member of the development team. We did not know each other prior to this time. My company develops unique neighborhoods. A new (high profile) site was chosen in the Charleston market that I knew would require specialized legal expertise. Ross was the perfect choice to navigate the team through a "very trying" process. He was instrumental in keeping team members on task and holding persons employed by the regulatory body accountable. I recommend Ross without reservation. Truly an attorney at the top of his game and a person of integrity.

Land use and zoning
He helped us regain a permit for weekly rentals from the town government that was making a concerted effort to restrict them. He went to the meetings, worked with the principles, and helped us in this multi step process. He then helped with the first of the new license renewals. It was a long, hard, uphill, process and he prevailed

One of the few lawyers in Charleston who knows zoning
We had a zoning issue in our area so we asked around for recommendations for a lawyer. We then phone interviewed them. What we found out was that none of them knew anything about zoning, even though they said they did. In seems that they somehow thought that since they knew how to close real estate transactions this also made them experts on the intricacies of zoning. Finally we received a recommendation from the Coastal Conservation League for Ross. It didn't take long in our interview with him to realize that he actually knew Charleston County zoning. We subsequently hired him for our zoning issue. He gave us great advise and the result was that the Planning Commission rejected the applicants rezoning request. We would definitely hire Ross again!

Got the job done...
We could not have asked for a better attorney for the job. Professional, and on point. Ross was always on point and made himself available to us every step of the way. We highly recommend Ross, and we greatly appreciate the work he did for us.

Masterful handling of complex zoning issue
We retained Ross Appel to represent our family in opposing a request for a Special Exception for Special Events as a principle use. If granted this Special Exception would have adversely impacted our family and our community. Ross was masterful and efficient in his representation of our interests in this matter and was the deciding factor in securing a favorable ruling on our behalf from the Charleston County Board of Zoning Appeals. I would without hesitation recommend him to anyone requiring specialized expertise in matters of planning and zoning.

Second to none
I hired Ross to help me with a zoning issue where my neighbor was attempting to build a large structure with an apartment on our shared property line. There was a long and confusing set circumstances and appeals were made to the Charleston BZA-Z and the SC circuit court. Ross came up to speed quickly on the facts of the case and was already familiar with the zoning laws involved and procedures surrounding the BZA-Z. He is friendly, intelligent, and incredibly passionate about zoning law and its powerful effect on people’s lives, people’s property, and the City of Charleston. The advice he gives is always intelligent and to the point. I never hesitate to ask him to explain anything as I know his answer will be direct and informed. In comparison to other lawyers I have worked with, Ross is faster to respond to questions, easier get in touch with, and overall easier to work with. He is well spoken, great at presentations, and knows how to tailor his message to his audience. His presentations to the Charleston BZA-Z and circuit court were second to none and many of the neighbors who were present commented on that fact. He knew what the BZA-Z wanted to focus on vs. what the circuit court wanted to focus on. I will hire Ross for any zoning work I need done in the future, large or small. I would also recommend Ross to others in need. Money well spent.

Review of Ross Appel
JJR Development, LLC has a very diverse and significant real estate development practice in Charleston, SC- one of the most highly regulated environments in the US, based on our historical architecture and various rules to protect the city's international brand. Our business involves many facets; including entitlements, contracts, title work, and public hearings, amongst others. Accordingly, we are very "legal intensive", trying to solve issues up front. Our team is selective on who we use. It is my pleasure to say that Ross is part of a highly talented group that my company has for representation of our interests concerning contracts and titles. He is a supplement talented young man that has a great trajectory in his career and belongs to a quality firm affording him extra resources. I have also seen Ross represent many applicants at public hearings, and his presentation skills are extraordinary, as well as his mastery of complex issues and his capacity to communicate and advocate his client's position effectively. I would give Ross my highest recommendation based on experience and observation, and would not say it unless I meant it.

Top Notch Mold Contamination Expert Attorney and Incredible Individual
After consulting with numerous attorneys concerning health issues my family and I suffered from mold exposure in a former apartment we once lived in, I was about to lose hope until I was referred to McCullough Khan Firm. After consulting with the firm and listening to my pleads for assistance, I received the phone call from Ross Appel stating that he was pleased to announce that they will assist my family and I in the mold contamination claim. I was so relieved because my search was over. During this stressful time I worked closely with Ross. Ross a very compassionate, considerate and straightforward attorney. He was quick and efficient in filing numerous motions with the case. Ross was very honest, easy to work with and kept me informed on every aspect of the case from the beginning to end. Ross was truly by my side every step of the way. When it comes to mold cases he is a topnotch, very intelligent, knowledgeable and thoroughly attorney. Any questions that I ask pertaining to the case he explained it to me in terminology that I understood. Although he's an attorney by law, to me he also has a hidden gift as a counselor. I truly considered him as one of my counselors during my stressful time with the case. I vented with Ross many days by phone and emailed him numerous times in the wee hours of the morning and the next business day he responded promptly. Ross is truly an incredible person. When you receive a phone call from one of your daughters and she says to you "mom I was working an event today and I saw Ross. He recognized me and called me by name. We spoke briefly and he said to tell you hello" that speaks volume about the incredible individual he is. I was very pleased with the professionalism that the firm and especially Ross with working with me closely in the handling of my family's case. I will definitely highly recommend Ross to family and friends or anyone who I come in contact with seeking legal assistance. The team of McCullough Khan were victorious in our mold contamination case but the MVP Award goes to Ross because he is who I worked with closely. He will forever be my family's MVP and the firm will be my family's best friend. Thank you McCullough Khan we got the results we wanted and thank you for entrusting Ross to be apart of your firm and working closely with me.

Excellent Zoning Attorney
My neighbors and I got together and hired Mr. Appel to represent us in a zoning issue for our neighborhood. He was extremely easy to work with, returned calls and emails promptly, and always kept his fees within our budget. His ideas for our case were brilliant and his planning was perfect. We had a very difficult case and were told by many that we would never win, but he won our case for us. I have been in the real estate business for 38 years and have worked with a number of fine attorneys, but I must say, Ross is the finest of all. If I ever have a zoning issue in the future, he will be my first call.
