Ross A. Appel

Ross was recommended to me by a local Charleston lawyer as the "best attorney in town" for my particular case. I met with Ross, at his offices, who, in a very short time picked up on my particular situation. After hiring him, to represent me at a hearing in front of the Charleston County Board of App...eals, we had a satisfactory outcome. His command of the case details and the pertinent law was most definitely a major factor in me achieving the desired outcome.

We had a zoning issue in our area so we asked around for recommendations for a lawyer. We then phone interviewed them. What we found out was that none of them knew anything about zoning, even though they said they did. In seems that they somehow thought that since they knew how to close real esta...te transactions this also made them experts on the intricacies of zoning. Finally we received a recommendation from the Coastal Conservation League for Ross. It didn't take long in our interview with him to realize that he actually knew Charleston County zoning. We subsequently hired him for our zoning issue. He gave us great advise and the result was that the Planning Commission rejected the applicants rezoning request. We would definitely hire Ross again!

I hired Ross to help me with a zoning issue where my neighbor was attempting to build a large structure with an apartment on our shared property line. There was a long and confusing set circumstances and appeals were made to the Charleston BZA-Z and the SC circuit court. Ross came up to speed quickly... on the facts of the case and was already familiar with the zoning laws involved and procedures surrounding the BZA-Z. He is friendly, intelligent, and incredibly passionate about zoning law and its powerful effect on people’s lives, people’s property, and the City of Charleston. The advice he gives is always intelligent and to the point. I never hesitate to ask him to explain anything as I know his answer will be direct and informed. In comparison to other lawyers I have worked with, Ross is faster to respond to questions, easier get in touch with, and overall easier to work with. He is well spoken, great at presentations, and knows how to tailor his message to his audience. His presentations to the Charleston BZA-Z and circuit court were second to none and many of the neighbors who were present commented on that fact. He knew what the BZA-Z wanted to focus on vs. what the circuit court wanted to focus on. I will hire Ross for any zoning work I need done in the future, large or small. I would also recommend Ross to others in need. Money well spent.
