After graduating from North Carolina State University with a degree in Business Management, David attended Law School at Campbell University. While working on his law degree, David represented his fellow students on the Student Bar Association, wrote Case Summaries of recently decided Appellate cases for the Campbell Law Observer, and was on the winning team for the law school’s intramural client counseling competition.
During law school, David clerked for the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office and interned with a small general practice firm. He logged countless courtroom hours during this time, learning from attorneys. These positions allowed David to gain invaluable experience in criminal matters and litigation, as well as client relations.
In 2006, David decided to open his own firm in Raleigh, where he lives with his wife and children. Since then, he has built his criminal practice through dedication to his clients and diligent work to protect their rights and interests. Since Renee Jordan joined the firm, David splits his time between court and the office. When he isn’t in court, he is at the office meeting with clients and reviewing their cases.
David is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, and the Wake County Bar. Additionally, David has received the same standard training in the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Standardized Field Sobriety Tests as North Carolina Law Enforcement.

I can not give a great or positive evaluation of the service that I received from David Mahlum Law Office. The paralegals staff we're not very professional. I hired Mr. Mahlum to help me with a speeding ticket I had gotten while driving through a school zone. On our first meeting, he gave me advise about what to expect and what kind of options I may have moving forward. With his help and knowledge, he was able to help get my sentence reduced in court. ...

Working with Mahlum Law Office has been a great experience. David and his team are very quick to communicate and answer my questions. They handled my case exactly as I had hoped AND how they told me they would.
"I am impressed with Mr. Mahlum's thoughtful advice and answers to legal questions on Avvo. He has an in-depth understanding of the law and an ability to communicate legal concepts clearly and effectively. I endorse this lawyer!"
"David is a great attorney. He is a conscientious and hardworking advocate and his clients are lucky to have him."
"I endorse this lawyer. David is a great lawyer who will handle your case with tact and confidence. In addition to being fellow lawyers in the Triangle, David actually represented me on a traffic ticket when I was an undergraduate at NCSU - and I still remember how he actually paid attention and responded to my concerns, even though it was "just" a traffic ticket. You can't go wrong with him."
"I first met David when I was working as an Assistant District Attorney and was immediately impressed. David negotiates passionately for his clients, carefully pointing out potential flaws in the state's evidence and when negotiations break down - as they sometimes do - he has the trial skills to exploit any weakness in the prosecutions case."
"I endorse this lawyer. David is a great lawyer and a former classmate of mine. If you're looking for competent, dependable, and professional representation, you can't go wrong with David."
"I endorse this lawyer's work. David is an aggressive, results oriented attorney who takes good care of his clients."
