Richard Bruce Gantt

Richard Bruce Gantt is an award-winning Board Certified Family Law specialist with over 25 years of experience. He has been recognized by his peers for such honors as Super Lawyers and the Business North Carolina magazine’s “Legal Elite” Hall of Fame, and is rated 10 out of 10 on Avvo.com (a lawyer rating website). His work has landed him recognition in such news sources as Lawyers Weekly, the Raleigh News and Observer, WRAL news, The New York Times, and the “My Carolina” news show. In 2021, he settled an alienation of affection lawsuit on behalf of a Plaintiff who had sued one of the leaders in the state House of Representatives, with the case becoming headline and front-page news in the major local news outlets. Richard frequently teaches continuing legal education seminars for other attorneys in his practice area on topics such as trial techniques, business valuation and division of assets, tax considerations, advanced custody issues, and spousal support (to name a few).

Richard graduated cum laude from Wake Forest where he was a Poteat Scholar and a member of the track team and the National Politics Honor Society, and where he spent a semester abroad studying economics in London. He then earned an MBA from Regent University with a focus on Entrepreneurship, where he was a Dean’s Merit Scholar, and where he also studied theology and journalism at the graduate level. Richard then graduated from Tulane Law School where he was a member of the Environmental Law journal and the Moot Court Board, was President of the Phi Delta Phi honor fraternity, and was the only member of his class to represent the school on both the interschool Trial and Appellate teams. After graduating law school, Richard studied Taxation in the Georgetown LLM program, and then worked for several years in Investment Banking. During his investment banking tenure, Richard assisted hundreds of small business owners in their efforts to secure funding or buyers for their companies. While in that role, he learned the ins and outs of the business valuation process and along the way earned the Series 79 certification associated with the investment banking profession. Subsequently, Richard practiced family law for several large divorce firms in Chicago, where he gained extensive experience in litigating and resolving complex family law matters that often involved the sophisticated financial portfolios of entrepreneurs, executives, and other high net worth individuals. Thereafter, Richard returned to North Carolina to practice family law in the Triangle and eventually founded Gantt Family Law, which has grown rapidly and serves clients throughout Central North Carolina.

Richard understands the stress of going through a divorce because he walked that road and was, for many years, a single father. He is passionate about fighting for those in crisis and brings all of his talents to bear on behalf of his clients. Richard has a special commitment to supporting and assisting entrepreneurs and employers, and their spouses, in their efforts to preserve and protect wealth and provide a secure future for their families, and believes his background and skill set makes him uniquely qualified to advocate for such individuals. A Triangle-area native, Richard grew up in Sanford, North Carolina. He is a member of the Christian Legal Society, Cary-Kildaire Rotary Club, Vintage Church, and Mensa. He is the President of the local alumni chapter of Regent University. When he isn’t practicing law, Richard enjoys playing club rugby, sport shooting, Taekwondo, and traveling with his wife, Sanan, their five sons, and their two dogs.
