This Happened

I had Ms. Commander as a lawyer. I am a teacher of 35 years in Va. Beach City Public School. I am unsure why I was yelled at by Ms. Commander to sign documents that would leave me broke! Today I served for jury duty and I saw Ms. Commander in the circuit court building. Funny she doesn't even recog...nize her own clients. I own my property and she allowed my ex to get 50,000 while he never contributed to the welfare of he home, he is not even own he deed. I paid 9,000 estimated to her and still paying! She did not recognize me because she had no intentions of helping me. Could it be that I am African -American? She never sit down and tried to understand , heck, I never meet her! I felt bullied and cheated. Please see the red flags! I had a lawyer who did not care, and could give a hen's egg about my child or us having a home to live in. My ex was abusive, narcissistic and down right hateful. Please pick a lawyer who gives a dam!

First, I do not tolerate racism in any sense. I find it extremely callous and demeaning to include the statement regarding race and implying that I am a racist. On this alone, this post should be removed. Second, she also claims in this review that she never met me (and yet I somehow did not recognize her?). Apparently, since I did not acknowledge her presence in a busy elevator (traveling from the first to second floor) on my way to a court hearing over a year after representation, she was so incensed that she took to a number of review sites to share her complaints.

Best divorce attorney!

Mary and Abby were incredible through my whole 3 year divorce. Very professional, knowledgeable, and they really care. I never once felt left behind or lost in the process.

So thankful I retained Mary and had her on my side!

Hands down, Mary Commander knows the Virginia family law, and practices civility and integrity from start to finish. Mary is tougher than nails and handles any high-conflict opposing counsel with ease. Mary is reasonable and the entire legal team will have you and your children’s best interest as a p...riority. Regardless, if you have mediation or need to go to court or trial, Mary is a strong litigator and will have your back. From the beginning, Emily (Mary’s receptionist) was prompt, patient with my numerous emails, and very responsive. Most of all, when things seemed bleak and overwhelming, Emily was considerate, patient, and kind with every one of my visits to their office. My first visit with Mary was a preemptive and strategic move as my ex had not filed a motion with the local court yet. Mary did not want to take a retainer fee unless needed. This was different than the 7 other attorneys I’d met with in the local area. Mary is 100% the epitome of integrity and is up front with you about your case and will NEVER charge you unnecessarily. For any other reviews that dislike what Mary might say, it is only because she will be honest and never sugarcoat any situation. This is what you need in an attorney and a legal team. Good or bad, you need an attorney and team that won’t run up the bill or be fake with you. A little bit after I met with Mary, the ex eventually filed numerous motions. I eventually retained Mary and had no regrets. I had approximately 60+ pages worth of discovery and questions to respond to. As chaotic as it might seem, Abby (Mary’s paralegal) made sure the process was seamless. Abby’s prompt communication and “hand-holding” made the prep for the court hearing much easier. In fact, Abby had even more experience and knowledge than my ex’s own attorney! The entire team kept me in the loop and made sure all my questions and concerns were promptly addressed even with Mary’s schedule. Mary and Abby knew the best cases to cite for my particular situation to get the motion filed against me dismissed. Its true you never know what a judge might say or decide, but the team at Commander Law will do everything they can to ensure your things go in your favor. There is nothing more reassuring and uplifting than seeing Mary in action in a courtroom. It‘s a great feeling when Mary and her team are fully prepared and state your case eloquently while opposing counsel continue to stumble in their responses to the points Mary brings up. I know that my ex will continue ongoing/future frivolous litigation, but as long as I have Mary on my side, I know it will be okay.

Military Spouse Praise: Redeeming Qualities, An Attorney with Integrity, Commitment & Heart

Attorney Commander handled my disabled mother's divorce case a few years ago. When "wording and terminology" of the divorce decree caused the Office of Personnel Management to cease payments to my mother, I was very upset and worried and contacted Ms. Commander. Ms. Commander assured me that she w...ould work hard to correct whatever issues there were and that my mother would receive compensation due to her. Today, I would like to report that Attorney Commander kept her word. She chose to correct a mistake that was continuing to cripple my mother and worry me across the miles. I thank her for her integrity and for picking back up the baton and putting in the extra time and work to see this case through. Oftentimes attorneys forget about the little people. I'm happy to say that my impression and overall outlook on the services provided by Attorney Commander and her character have been redeemed through her commitment to serve the public, her willingness to take care of my mother's legal issue. I'd like to thank her personally for the way she handled this case and for getting back in there to deal with both the Courts and the Office of Personnel Management. My mother's divorce decree has been corrected, and she has received the funds she had previously been denied. I would recommend this attorney in the future. She has proven to me that she cares and that she is committed to seeking justice for her clients. She made a promise, and she kept it! Thank you Ms. Commander.

A Military Spouse Appalled by This Attorney's Services

Nearly three years ago, I paid Ms. Commander to help my disabled mother with her divorce. She was recommended by a friend and military spouse also using Ms. Commander for services. When I introduced Ms. Commander to my mother, we sat in her office and she seemed highly interested in helping my mot...her with her case. My mother sat there with disfigured hands and feet caused by rheumatoid arthritis which she had been diagnosed with in her thirties and she was seeking a divorce to escape a bad marriage. At any rate, Ms. Commander helped my mother divorce her husband (my father) and secure 30% of his retirement entitlements; however, she failed to negotiate medical benefits on her behalf. Why she didn't fight for that in my mother's condition, I still have yet to understand. I thought that was poor judgment on her part. I was even more disheartened when we landed in court and found out that Ms. Commander was friends with my father's divorce attorney. My mother received her 30% of my father's retirement for a little over a year and then the payments stopped. After that, she received nothing else. Can you imagine the stress this brought on having to make calls out of state to the Office of Personnel Management only to find out that due to the "wording of her divorce decree," her payments had been stopped? Apparently, Ms. Commander and the other attorney's negotiated divorce decree was worded in a way that guaranteed 30% of the retirement portion my father had actually paid into his own retirement. But this was not what was negotiated in court. My mother agreed to 30% of his retirement benefits for life. This is what Ms. Commander told her that she was being awarded. At any rate, the incorrect or not detailed enough wording in my mother's divorce decree caused her to lose the 30% she was getting. Once my mother contacted Ms. Commander about the error, she was reluctant to speak with her or to even help her rectify the problem. The Office of Personnel Management (after countless phone calls, a trip to the office in DC, and other communication) told my mother that the divorce decree had to be corrected, and they would release the funds to her. Ms. Commander understood this, and told my mother that they would have to go back to court. Finally, after going back and forth and playing phone tag with Ms. Commander, finally, this lawyer (Ms. Commander) pretty much lamented to my disabled mother that there was nothing else she could do for her. So she just left my mother high and dry. I find that simply unacceptable. This attorney's failure to provide services caused my mother to endure even more hardship. She negotiated the wording of the divorce decree, and she should have been the one to fix the error. As of today, my mother has been without payments from her divorce settlement for over a year. Financially, she is struggling to survive and has often felt like giving up. I realize that Ms. Commander is a professional. I realize that she is an attorney, but what I did not realize was that not only is she less concerned with those less fortunate than her, but she is not the least bit concerned about admitting or correcting her own mistakes. THIS LAWYER MADE AN ERROR, and she should have been woman enough, professional enough to fix it. My mother trusted her with her case. I trusted her with my mother. In the end, she failed us both. I would not recommend her services. In fact, the friend who recommended Ms. Commander to me three years ago is still NOT DIVORCED! You be the judge . . .
