While we were driving back home from Florida to Canada, we were going through Virginia and I got stop for a speeding Police officer told me that i have to appear in court and he give me citation for reckless driving. First i thought he said about court because if i want to contest the ticket, but in ...my head why would i go to court if it will take my time and i am even not from USA, so i asked him but how much is a ticket i have to pay? but he said i charged with reckless driving and he does not know i have to call court, and if they decide that i can pay some ticket fee, then will tell me how much... I thought my head will explode from thoughts... I never got a speeding ticket before in Canada or any other country, and here is he is saying reckless driving... so this was extremely stressful. i have to drive at least another 12 hours and this paper to appear in court was in my thoughts all the time. So when i get home i start doing reading on internet about Virginia law, and i even get more terrified of this state law for speeding. then i called court to find out if i can pay ticket, they told me amount and when i asked if i will not have record under my name, they said no by paying ticket i automatically plea guilty to reckless driving... I had contacted other lawyer, and i asked to speak to lawyer personally, (because for me it was important to find out what is my chances in court as being a Canadian, what will happened to me) and their receptionist said they will call me in 15min., nobody called me after an hour, so i called back, she said they call tomorrow, nobody called me back even in few days. While traveling through the Commonwealth of Virginia this summer, I was pulled over and ticketed for doing 81 in a 70 MPH zone. At the time the officer was writing the ticket, I didn’t think I was in too much trouble. After all, in my state, doing 11 MPH over the limit doesn’t usually warrant a secon...d look from an officer at a speed trap. However, upon further inspection of my ticket, I learned that I was in much more trouble.
