A Lawyer Who Listens and Delivers
My case was a somewhat complex domestic situation, a misdemeanor charge that could have resulted in jail time. During my first consultation, Senator Surovell listened to my concerns, patiently answered all of my questions, and made suggestions that helped my case. In the intervening months between the charge and my trial, Scott promptly responded to any questions or concerns that came up. Being charged with any crime is scary, and you need a well-informed lawyer to navigate the murky, sometimes treacherous territory of our criminal justice system. I knew that Senator Surovell had a reputation as one of the best defense lawyers in Fairfax County. And he lived up to that reputation Thanks to his skillful handling of my case, the charges were dropped. I could not have asked for a better outcome, and I will be forever grateful for his help during a difficult time in my life. Novelist Raymond Chandler once said, “The law isn’t justice. It’s a very imperfect mechanism. If you press exactly the right buttons and are also lucky, justice may show up in the answer.” Hiring Senator Surovell was exactly the right button to press.

Masterful Trial Attorney
I was charged with a DWI and Civil Refusal back in February and was terrified of the consequences a conviction would entail. Fortunately, a friend referred me to Scott Surovell who agreed to represent me and set a plan in action from our very first call. He helped me understand how the process would take place and our strategy for my defense. As my Court date approached, we continued once before finally going before the Arlington County General District Court. The State Prosecutor had not offered any plea deals so it was to go to trial. Scott was a masterful trial attorney. It was impressive to watch him work and gave me confidence we would come out with a positive ruling. After he dismantled the Prosecution, it was agreed that the Charge would be reduced to Reckless Driving and the Commonwealth would Motion to Nolle Prosequi the Refusal Charge. This was a HUGE relief. I cannot thank Scott enough for his work on my case and would recommend him to anyone seeking a Defense Attorney. 10/10, 5-Stars, 2 thumbs up, the best attorney I have ever interacted with.

Great Lawyer
By far the best lawyer I ever hired. Even though he is busy with his other duties he was always quick to answer my emails. He got my driving charge reduced by a ton. You want to get your charge reduce you need to hire this lawyer. He will go to bat for you.

I am a mid fifties professional who one evening exercised bad judgement resulting in a DWI and Reckless Driving in a very unforgiving jurisdiction. My prospects were bleak when I put my trust in Scott Surovell. I followed all his advice and in the end the prosecution reluctantly agreed to drop the DWI charge due to irregularities surfaced by Scott that cast doubt on the eventual outcome of the case. Furthermore, our petition to expunge the arrest record was strongly opposed by the prosecution. At the expungement hearing in front of the judge, I witnessed Scott dismantle the prosecution's case in short order leaving the prosecutor without an effective rebuttal. The petition for expungement was quickly granted by the judge. Upon leaving the courtroom, one attorney after another congratulated Scott on his deft handling of my case. It was an impressive display of tough, effective advocacy by an attorney for his client. I would highly recommend Scott Surovell to anyone in need of a strong, effective legal defense.

Scott saved my life!
I was facing 5 days jail time, a misdemeanor charge, one year suspended license (possibly restricted) license, ASAP attendance, and severely increased insurance costs. I am a professional with a doctorate and this charge would have severely impacted my life and profession. Scott looked at the particulars of my case (I was arrested in a parking lot after hours in a county park with the keys in my ignition, heating the car due to cold weather...). Although the odds didn't look good, Scott researched every previous ruling and fought hard for me over 15 months and 6 continuances.... Finally, our day arrived where we pursued a trial in court. Scott nailed my defense, citing numerous cases regarding the definition of "public highway". I was prepared for the worst, and honestly thought the chances of acquittal were slim. The judge ruled in my favor thanks to Scott's meticulous research and knowledgeable defense. The judge dismissed all charges, and now I am proceeding with an expungement of all charges. I cannot say enough about Scott Surovell. He is an exceptional lawyer! Not only that, he achieved all of this while also serving as delegate for Fairfax County Va. If you need the best lawyer, Scott is the one for you! He knows DUI law in VA like no one else! Thanks from a very grateful client.

Making a difference in the world - one client at a time
The first time that I met with Mr. Surovell, I had tears streaming down my face for the entire two hours that we discussed my case. I had been arrested for a first offense DWI and for refusal to submit to analysis for blood/breath test. I spent a lot of time filling out the intake form as a new client of his but every second that I spent doing that was worth it. The more information that I was able to provide to Mr. Surovell, the better he would be at his job as my attorney. Mr. Surovell isn't just any attorney; he's an individual person who actually cares about making a difference in the lives of everyday people and in-turn, the world. There's no way that he could be such an amazing attorney without the passion and fire that drives him to do so. He's direct, honest, respectable and you should listen to him. Don't be afraid to ask him questions. The more you care about your case and your life, the more likely your attorney will too so it's important that you show genuine interest in how the outcome of your case will affect your life. After having my case continued for a few months, we went to trial. I was found not guilty for the first offense DWI and was found guilty of the unreasonable refusal to submit to blood/breath test. However, Mr. Surovell immediately filed an appeal - allowing me to keep my driver's license up until the Circuit Court of Appeals trial date. Mr. Surovell told me in advance that my chances for being acquitted of the charge would be much greater if I had a trial by jury rather than a bench trial. Even though a jury trial was more expensive, he wasn't telling me to go that route because he wanted to make more money, he was telling me because he cared and was doing his job as my attorney and advising me the way that I deserved. I took his advice and he rocked the courtroom that day. The jury found me not guilty of unreasonable refusal to submit to analysis of blood/breath test. While there were many details of the case that I did not disclose, there is one thing that I know for sure - the results would not have been the same without having had Mr. Surovell by my side. I had faith in him and every other prospective client out there should too. My life and the way I choose to live it has changed because of him. I don't believe in luck or regretting moments of stupidity but I do believe in mistakes and it will be your biggest mistake yet if you need an attorney and don't choose Scott Surovell.

No Follow-Up
He may not be interested in small, poor clients. I needed to hire a homeowners rights and personal injury attorney to protect my family from my condo association's harassment. My wife was even forced to attempt to commit suicide. Most of homeowners association law lawyers seemed to work for homeowners associations but not homeowners. In fact, some homeowners associations law firms told me that they would not take individual cases. But, Mr. Surovell seemed to be a powerful lawyer for homeowners according to his website. So, we thought that he would be the right attorney for us and contacted his office with a big hope. Even his client's Avvo review said that the client shed tears with being saved by Mr. Surovell. Mr. Surovell promptly responded to us at first, and he told us to give him more details. But, after we passed more details to him, he literally has not responded to us for almost 3 weeks so far. We talked to his assistant and associate lawyer by phone, but they just told us that we even could not make an appointment for the initial in-house consultation before he decided to take my case. In case our emails went to his Spam folder, we also asked him to check Spam folder through his assistant and associate lawyer. We called his assistant and contacted his office through his website's form several times, but we did not receive any response or follow-up. He even knew that the opposing party's attorney requested a deadline of our response, he simply did not follow up, which could be advantageous to the opposing party. Even now, we don't know whether he is still deciding, and whether he totally forgot or ignore us as a small client. Even if he is too busy or not interested in small cases, it would be more polite or of common sense to tell us the update/decision or refer us to a different attorney within expertise.

"Scott is the best of the best in Fairfax. Whether it is a civil or criminal matter, Scott is as good a trial lawyer as you can find. He's one of the few lawyers I know who still fits the mold of a true general practicioner, yet is outstanding across all fields. I have the utmost respect for Scott and regularly send clients to him."

"I endorse this lawyer. It's a challenge to find deserving words that best convey Scott Surovell's excellence as a lawyer. Scott is an extraordinary traffic and criminal defense lawyer. Particularly, he is top-notch in DWI defense-- when I think of the best of the best DWI lawyers in northern VA, Scott Surovell is easily among the top few elite. Whenever I've referred cases to him, it seems to me that more often than not after he handles the case, he is able to tell me he helped the client avoid a DWI conviction. Of course, each case depends on it's own facts and issues, but Scott is by far better skilled to find any possible way to win it. He is one of the most well-prepared lawyers around, and he strikes fear in the hearts of prosecutors when they see him come to court with his box full of of legal arguments and issues. When he speaks at legal seminars teaching other lawyers, I always learn from Scott practical advice on improving my own defense skills."

"Scott is an amazing lawyer. He does an exceptional job at whatever area of the law he touches, be it major civil litigation, divorce, criminal or general practice. Discussing any legal topic with Scott usually results in helpful enriching information for the listener. Scott's leadership in DUI defense makes him one of the top such lawyers in Virginia. As but one example, he was the first lawyer to succeed in persuading a Court to order examination of old breath machines which disclosed apparent significant limitations and problems with the aging equipment, that has since been replaced. I am honored to have him as a peer in our Virginia Bar and thankful for the lessons I have learned from watching him practice civil and criminal law over the years."

"Scott is a master of the Law surrounding DUI/DWI and a master of the Science behind these charges. Being a great Lawyer is not enough when it comes to successfully defending DWI/DUI cases. You have to understand the Science. Scott was the first Lawyer in Virginia to actually have an actual evidentiary breath tester evaluated by an expert. If the breath tester has problems Scott will find them. I have referred clients to Scott and give him the highest Endorsement."
