After more than a decade of service at the Department of Justice as a prosecutor and handling False Claims Act cases and qui tam (whistleblower) suits, and after four years as counsel at Covington & Burling, I launched my own firm in 2009.

I now bring my lengthy False Claims Act experience to the needs of individuals and small and medium-size companies facing government investigations or wishing to file whistleblower suits.

In addition, I and my associate. Andrew Murray, have extensive experience in handling federal criminal investigations, Congressional investigations, civil litigation, and federal employee whistleblower retaliation claims.

Defeated two billion dollar companies
Mr. Vernia represented me in three cases against two billion dollar companies, single-handedly winning all three of them, securing a substantial monetary compensation. In the first case Mr. Vernia filed a successful qui tam (whistleblower) suit against a major aerospace company which was overcharging government clients. The DoJ thanked us for our efforts and rewarded us with a substantial relator share compensation, together with attorney fees. In the second, retaliation case, Mr. Vernia obtained a substantial monetary settlement from the company. In the third case, Mr. Vernia tirelessly defended me, my family, and my small business against a large company who filed a meritless strike suit in their attempt to take my business down as its only competitor. Mr. Vernia filed dozens of motions and fought to the end against the company and its 21-person team consisting of fourteen lawyers. As a result of Mr. Vernia’s effort and his knowledge of the Defense Trade Secret Act, we won the entire case on summary judgment, while exposing the company’s lies and fabrications.

Best Attorney!
Ben Vernia’s is an absolute gem of a lawyer. His calm personality made me feel safe when everything was falling apart. He took care of me like no other attorney has ever done. He got me the outcome I wanted and I highly recommend his law firm.

Professional, skilled, and compassionate
He literally saved the case. I found myself in a bind: headed to a notorious Circuit Court and the senior attorney I had hired had pawned my case off to a junior associate who had botched it all. In fact, we were weeks from submitting the brief and they were totally unprepared. I was given the name of Ben Vernia from successful attorneys in that circuit and called. Most folks aren’t interested in federal whistleblowers who did the right thing but aren’t likely to yield lots and lots of cash, but Mr. Vernia cared more about saving my dignity and preserving my case. Mr. Vernia got right to work on my case and impressed me in several important ways. He was transparent about his fees. He estimated hours in advance so I could plan approximate costs. This kept my anxiety and budget within control. Mr. Vernia was calm and compassionate. He listened to me. He was respectful. He helped me understand the process we would be engaging in so I could know what to expect. Mr. Vernia was skilled. He developed careful arguments and delivered them expertly. I was so impressed. I would happily employ him as an attorney in the future. He is a wonderful person and professional.

Yes, very pleased
I found Mr. Vernia, and his associates, to be extremely professional as well as patient. My case was somewhat difficult due to nuisances in US Code yet they navigated this difficult process with success. I would highly recommend this firm.

Amended Life
My whole world had shattered from a devastating legal entanglement. I had nowhere to turn and I was lost forever. Then, my prayer was answered when I found Attorney Ben Vernia who took my case. He put my life back on track step by step, piece by piece until the case was over and we prevailed. Attorney Ben Vernia is very cool, calm and collective under high stress. He took my case when I thought I was fighting a losing battle even when I knew was innocent. I would definitely wholeheartedly with confidence recommend Attorney Ben Vernia to anyone who needs legal services.

A great attorney!
Ben Vernia was the calm in the middle of my professional storm. He was prepared and did not give into histrionics of the opposing party. He cleaned up a debacle when another attorney refused to work. He worked after-hours to meet filing deadlines. He promptly answered all substantive questions and returned phone calls. Most importantly, he reached a desired outcome for my case. I refer to Ben as a "cool cat", a reassuring quality in an attorney when you feel like your world is falling apart. I recommend Ben for any and all whistleblower claims.

Extremely dedicated and knowledgeable
I was referred to Ben to take over my case and immediately there was light at the end of the tunnel. Ben is extremely dedicated, professional, knowledgeable, and honest. I only wish I retained his services earlier and would have saved considerable time and money on my case. Ben researched areas for my defense and stood up for me while honestly giving me all options and possibilities. I have worked with many attorney's in many different areas of law and only Ben has worked upfront and ethically in all areas from keeping lines of communication open between all parties, to timely returns of calls, to thorough research for my case and above all in a professional manner. I highly recommend Ben to anyone who is in need of his services

The Best
Ben is the best lawyer I ever had, and the best lawyer I could imagine having. He has a brilliant legal mind that gives him a mastery of the law, but is also savvy, strong and careful when dealing with his adversaries. He was always available to answer my questions and kept me informed. Having him as my attorney gave me tremendous piece of mind. Thank you!
