In this pro bono matter, along with others attorneys I represented Cory Maye, a young man who was charged and convicted of intentionally killing a police officer. The officer had entered Mr. Maye's ho ... me after a door was kicked in, to execute a search warrant. Mr. Maye believed the officer was an intruder, and shot to protect his infant daughter and himself. In December, 2010, we won a new trial from the Mississippi Supreme Court. On July 1, 2011, we accepted a plea agreement that reduced the charge from capital murder to negligent manslaughter, with a sentence of 10 years (time served), and no post-release supervision or fines.
