Mr. Zimmelman represented me in my bankruptcy case several years ago. His honest assessments and in-depth knowledge of the law instilled confidence in all proceedings. He is a trusted guide who is dedicated to his clients. Declaring bankruptcy can be a very daunting process. Mr. Zimmelman makes all steps and procedures easy to navigate and exceptionally comprehensible. I wholeheartedly endorse Mr. Zimmelman as an attorney.
Chapter 7 bankruptcy is a neat way to eliminate your debt while often paying nothing to these creditors. Assets may be protected under state or federal law (in NY) and debtors are afforded a fresh start in approximately 3-4 months after filing.
Chapter 13 bankruptcy allows you to repay creditors over 36-months. It's a great tool to catch up on mortgage arrears or repay tax debt. With credit cards and personal loans, you may be able to pay back pennies on the dollar and then be debt free.
Bankruptcy is not always the answer. Bankruptcy may put assets at risk or impact your ability to get credit after your case ends. I negotiate directly with creditors to obtain favorable settlements and repayment terms that benefit my clients.
Your home is your most valuable asset. I work with homeowners to preserve their rights and fight to save their homes. That fight may lead to a loan modification or other favorable outcomes. Litigation may be necessary to hold the bank accountable.
After over ten years at busy firms assisting clients in managing their debts, I started my own practice to give my clients more personal attention. I work with individuals and small businesses to get them out of their financial hardships. Sometimes bankruptcy is the answer, other times negotiating with creditors is a better option. I have helped thousands of New Yorkers achieve a debt free life and saved many homes from foreclosure.

Matthew Zimmelman's Services Were Invaluable
Matthew Zimmelman’s services were invaluable to us. In fact, I don’t think that calling him a “miracle worker” is too strong.
I was the executor of my aunt’s estate, who had a thriving business before she died unexpectedly. She had a large bank debt, which prevented her employees from continuing the business, and which served important clients in unique ways. We tried working with the bank, and despite working our way up and down the decision-making chain, we were unable to get them to listen. Bankruptcy was a very real probability…until we hired Matthew.
Matthew was able to secure a very substantial reduction in the amount of money owed. Quite frankly, I was astounded. The business was able to move forward, and the firm’s employees and I are very grateful. Matthew is a skilled attorney and negotiator, and I can’t recommend his services enough. Thank you, Matthew!

Excellent attorney and extremely patient.
I had Mr. Zimmelman represent me and my wife and in Chapter 7. Having exposure to the system, I was familiar with the process and somewhat comfortable and knew what to expect. My spouse, on the other hand, is a layperson in these matters and was totally dead set against the thought of bankruptcy. Mr. Z explained the process, the pitfalls and ramifications and together, my wife and I came to the conclusion it was our best if not only option. It saved our marriage, home and sanity and 3 years on we have rebuilt our lives again. Thank you Matt!
