A wonderful, long term legal relationship.

I met Ted Deignan 10 years ago, as a neighbor. Soon after that, I began having trouble with my landlord and the new commercial business in the building, directly below me. The business was abusing the space with loud music and customers, partying every night as well as violating residents privacy an...d building areas. They had removed the ceiling and insulation in the space, leaving no sound protection between my bedroom/bathroom area, leading me to be able to hear them clearly. Both my landlord and the tenant were unwilling to do anything to fix the situation, and both sets began harassing me in several ways. As I explained this to Ted, he offered his services as a tenant landlord attorney, recommending that I get legal council to fix the situation and protect my rent stabilized apt. He offered great advice and guidance to what would become a nearly 3 year case. He gave me clear instruction in what my role in the case should be, such as contacting the police when needed, keeping records of situations concerning noise and any interactions, documenting text messages and getting this information to him. As this case went on, it became stressful for me. I was surrounded by it - the noise and the daily threat of harassment from my landlord, the tenant and his employees. Trying to balance home life and work was difficult. At these points, Ted was always there for me, everytime I needed to talk, good and bad. Many times, I sat in his office and we would talk until I felt better. He treated me with compassion, one of his strongest traits. Everytime I was in court - probably 10 times, I was always happy that Ted was my attorney, he knows the rules, has great respect for the law and court systems, and is tough when needed. I have consulted with him several times since the case ended, and have recommended him many times. He's the best.

Highly Recommend

I called attorney Ted Diegnan for help with my very unreasonable landlord who was threatening to not allow me to move out of the building because my lease wasn't up, they actually said they would not allow me to use the elevator and would deny my movers entry. Ted was very responsive and immediately... helped me by getting in contact w/my landlord and getting their attorney to respond and come to a reasonable agreement. I called in desperation on a Friday afternoon with my move scheduled for Monday morning, Ted worked through the weekend for me negotiating with my landlord we came to an agreement on Sunday and I was able to move out Monday morning. Ted was great and charged me a reasonable fee as well, highly recommend.

Amazing, immediate, actionable counsel

I panicked after signing my first lease in New York City and Teddy responded immediately—hearing me out, assuaging my concerns, and giving me sound, actionable, easy-to-understand advice I was able to put to use that same day. New York real estate is incredibly intimidating and I feel fortunate to ha...ve found Teddy. Cannot recommend him highly enough.

Concise, helpful consultation.

Teddy Deignan was very helpful with my case. I reached out after work hours on a Friday and he was able to contact me before the weekend was over and set up time later in the week to consult. His consultation was concise, and he explained the process of filing a response very well over the phone, so ...that I did not feel lost when I went to the courthouse later. He was upfront with his opinion that my case was relatively simple and that I probably did not need to pay for an attorney to appear with me in court, but he stated his rates in case I decided to anyway. Overall a very helpful consultation, which both gave me concrete steps to take and put my mind at ease after a landlord had surprised me with an unexpected petition.

Highly recommended for landlord/tenant disputes

I retained Mr. Deignan recently in a landlord/tenant dispute and was extremely satisfied with his performance, and I would highly recommend his services. Operating out of a non-traditional office space in Red Hook, Mr. Deignan offers a free in-person consultation. During my consultation, Mr. De...ignan listened patiently to all the details of my situation. By the end of the consultation, he had throughly considered the facts of my situation and laid out various options for consideration. I choose to retain Mr. Deignan after that consultation. Mr. Deignan did an excellent job for the remainder of my case. In general, I was able to reach him via email as required, which was important to me. My specific case required a lot of back and forth between the parties and Mr. Deignan did a great job throughout that process. One area for improvement would be in the some of the back office aspects of Mr. Deignan's practice, as some of the paperwork required such as billing invoices could use some improvement. Thank you again. Highly recommended.
