His rescue mission

The melt-down of my small business at first had started slowly around 2009 and suddenly plunged into the impending doom in late 2010. After having seen a couple of attorneys who were specialized in bankruptcy I realized that they all wanted charge me outrageous amount of fees. First of all how could... a person going through bankruptcy have such a large amount of money? I was losing the hope of getting out of the financial jam. Then I ran into his name, Mr. Jay Simon quite by accident and started reading his reviews. At first I was a little incredulous because of his much more affordable rate to the service compared to first two I met but somewhat I had a better feeling of going to the downtown Brooklyn than going to the cold and bleak buildings of the midtown Manhattan. Upon my first meeting with him, He immediately gave me ease with his friendliness and laid-back approach. Mr. Simon was very sympathetic and understanding of my situation (unlike other ones whom I had met in midtown. They had more condescending attitudes). After the first meeting I felt for the first time that the dark clouds over my head had started receding and started feeling positive. His filing process was very efficient and fast. He keeps me informed of all updates frequently. I am especially impressed with his follow up work after the meeting with trustees. Thanks to him, after the new year of 2011 I never receive any soliciting call from collection people! I highly recommend him to anyone who has similar financial problems.

Giving Thanks

I started thinking about writing this review on Thanksgiving Day 2014. It has been a difficult year for me. My financial situation got progressively worse and I finally decided to file bankruptcy. I was not looking forward to the experience. I expected it to be awful, depressing, humiliating etc.... Lucky for me that I happened to read the Metro newspaper and stumbled upon Jay Simon's newspaper advertisement. It just clicked for me, but I put off making a calling out of dread, but finally I did call. Lo and behold, a nice person actually answered the phone-the bankruptcy attorney himself, Jay Simon. Jay was very different then what I expected from a bankruptcy attorney. It was a pleasure meeting with him. He set it up that he had plenty of time to meet with me, explain things thoroughly, and work with me. He is so nice, caring, supportive and understanding; just a phenomenal person. Bit hard to put how incredible he is into words. Here are some more thoughts: Jay makes you realize there are good people out there. He went out of his way to make bankruptcy a pleasant experience for me. He makes you feel like you are important. He went the extra mile. He was a helping hand when I needed it. He provided quality service. Therefore, what I am thankful for this holiday season is Jay Simon, my bankruptcy attorney. I do not know where I would be now without him. This is my small way of giving thanks.

Saint Simon!

Jay Simon is the patron saint of bankruptcy filers! A saint helps people who are downtrodden and in need. Therefore, Mr. Simon is a saint to me. He is just so kind and nice. I had an awesome bankruptcy experience with this lovely man as my attorney. Mr. Simon is just a different kind of bankrupt...cy attorney. Mr. Simon didn't put personal gain before his client's needs or well being. I had an awesome bankruptcy experience with this lovely man as my attorney. Let’s start with his office. His office offered a warm, welcoming environment. He did a lovely job in decorating his office. It was so warm, like an embrace of relaxation and friendliness. Then there is Mr. Simon himself. He seemed amazingly cool and so sweet. I just liked him instantly. He is just so perfect and nice. He was very helpful, kind, and positive. Mr. Simon is more than an attorney; he is a 'counselor' in so many ways. He reassured and supported me; both literally and figuratively held my hand throughout the process. A story to show what type of person Jay is: I remember my grandmother telling me that when I got married, I should make sure he was kind. But she might just as well have said: "Find yourself a man who's nice to waiters." The way people treat restaurant staff is, I think, a kind of poker tell, revealing a person's character. A man or woman who is actively unpleasant to waiters is best avoided. Ditto those who patronize them or who treat waiters as though they're invisible. What does that have to do with bankruptcy lawyers? Well Mr. Simon brought me and a few other clients to our creditors meeting after spending time reviewing with us in his office. We were only a bit early, but the trustee was over an hour late in arriving. Mr. Simon did nothing wrong, but he repeatedly apologized for the delay and reassured his group of clients, even though the delay was not his doing. None of the other attorneys present bothered to do that, even acknowledged, or interacted with their clients. Most didn’t seem to even know their own clients in advance. Obviously, they were not the ones the clients worked with in preparing their petitions. In fact, I liked that he had us meet him at his office, a place I was familiar, and walked us over to the place we were to meet the trustee; I did not have to find the place on my own. Anyway, for some reason, there were very few seats in the waiting area. We all got seats, but the later arriving did not have anywhere to sit. One older woman and a pregnant lady came. They were not Mr. Simon’s clients, but Mr. Simon went and brought chairs from another room for these women. They both had there own, different, attorneys who did nothing to accommodate these women. None of the other attorneys there, familiar with the location, bothered to help these women, only Mr. Simon. This would not be what I would want in my bankruptcy attorney. One attorney was actively getting annoyed at his client, who was asking him questions about his own petition. Unlike other attorneys, Mr. Simon is a true gentleman who knows how to treat people, especially clients. There is no one sweeter or kinder then Mr. Simon. He is an amazing person who did an excellent job. I am so glad I hired him. He is truly loved by his clients for all he does. Saint Simon!

Jay is Awesome!

Jay is just the absolute greatest, most wonderful bankruptcy attorney. He is a very likable with such a big heart. He is sweet, thoughtful, and funny. He is also very caring. It is apparent that he is someone who truly likes taking care of people. He was so good to me. He personally got to ...know me. He has a genuineness that came across in all of our interactions. He is supportive and full of positivity. He said so many sweet and encouraging things, from my first call to his last letter wrapping everything up, to help me get through this harrowing process. He goes above and beyond what you would expect from a bankruptcy attorney and for the fee I paid him. Also, he has humility and empathy. He did not look down on me for having to file bankruptcy and did not act all high and mighty like a typical lawyer. For instance, he would not allow me to call him Mr. Simon or allow me to put myself down for finding myself in this situation. If I had to do it all over again (which I will not if I follow the thorough advice Jay gave me in his informative closing letter) I would not hesitate to hire Jay Simon. He eased every fear I had and really made the entire process incredibly smooth. There are good people in this world and Jay Simon is certainly one of them. He is most highly recommended if you are filing chapter 7 bankruptcy. You will not regret hiring him!

Attentive and Understanding at the Most Difficult of Times = A Special Person and Bankruptcy Attorney

My review of Jay Simon is going to focus on something other reviewers only mention in passing; that Mr. Simon gives clients amazing personal attention. I first called Jay Simon on the phone. He was very understanding and tolerant of my feeble attempts to explain my situation. He was kind, didn't ...rush me off the phone or push me into making an appointment. He was so easy to talk to. We spoke for about a half hour because of my uncertainty about proceeding. What attorney talks to you for a half hour, imparting information, without even knowing you or getting paid for it???? Anyway, due to my fear, I didn't make an appointment. Instead I said I would think it over and get back to him. I didn't. Instead, I called other attorneys who weren't as nice. I grew discouraged. I then remembered the one shining light I had called: Jay Simon. I called him back. Now, mind you, about 4 months had passed. When we spoke for the second time, Mr. Simon, after a brief reminder, actually remembered our previous conversation and recounted details I told him in the first conversation. So, I scheduled an appointment. When I arrived, I was delighted by his lovely office. I had been expecting a crowded, generic law office or torture chamber (lol). Mr. Simon's office was just so cute, comfortable and relaxing. I also assumed I would be kept waiting before being seen by the attorney. But, as soon as I arrived, I was seen immediately and didn't see any other clients. Mr. Simon then patiently went over my situation and discussed bankruptcy. As this was just my initial consultation, I expected to be shown the door after a certain point. Instead, Mr Simon began preparing my petition. He said I was his whole day and we then spent hours working on the petition. He could have made me come back a second time, missing more time from work, but no, he went about completing the entire petition in one session, in order to convenience me. I went away from the appointment thinking maybe he didn't have many clients if he could devote so much time to one person. He was very supportive and reassuring while preparing the petition. He also sent an extremely detailed instruction letter. About a month later came the date of my creditors meeting. Instead of meeting me at the court, he had me meet him an hour early in his office. I didn't have to worry about finding where I needed to go; Mr. Simon was going to personally escort me to the meeting. Much to my surprise (and happiness, as I was worried about him), there were a number of other clients there who would also be going to court with us. He then spent time reviewing with each of us what was going to happen, what to expect and reviewing our petitions. He could have done this with us as a group to make it easier on himself, but he gave us each individual time. Later, at court a lady attorney covering for another attorney, met with her clients as one big group; no individual acknowledgements or attention for them. After talking to each of us individually, Mr. Simon's voice was almost gone. It was actually nice to have other people to talk while I waited, who were going through the same thing as me. In talking to the others, I came to realize Mr. Simon gives all of his clients special, individual attention. Anyway, to court we all went. At court, he was reassuring and supportive to us all. Other attorneys, until they went up to the meeting desk, you wouldn't know who their clients were, as they had no contact with them in the meeting room. I hope by now you get the picture; Mr. Simon cares about his clients and gives them individual, caring attention. He made me feel special because HE is so special. He is so sweet and good. He truly cares about people. His attention to clients speaks to the person he is. I wish my significant other treated me as well. I highly recommend Jay Simon to anyone thinking of filing bankruptcy.

Relationship: Fellow lawyer in community

"I endorse this lawyer. Why? When you have a question, he gives you an answer as if you were across his desk so you understand the law, your options, and the answer to your question. Sometimes on AVVO we see answers to questions that in essence just say to see an attorney which is ok..as that is the ultimate answer. But this attorney will go beyond and try and fully and completely and in my view accurately answer it. Is that not the type of attorney you want? I would hope so and for that reason I endorse him."
