Brooklyn's Best and NICEST Bankruptcy Attorney

I think Jay Simon's most important trait as an attorney is his attention to his clients. In the bankruptcy field that doesn't seem to be a common trait to have. I called various other attorneys and met with three of them and even went so far as to have hired one. These lawyers acted like they were... doing me a favor in meeting with me, answering my questions or calling me back (oddly, those same attorneys actually have all positive reviews on this site). I dropped the first attorney and scheduled an appointment to meet with Mr. Simon. Mr. Simon is vastly different then all of the others. He provides superior customer service. He is nice, genuine and caring. He was the one and only attorney to talk to me at length on the phone before we even met. He was so nice in that initial conversation, I knew he would be better for me then the attorney I had already hired. Then when we met, Mr. Simon was so welcoming. He did so many small gestures that conveyed caring and thoughtfulness. Jay is great to his clients and I, for one, appreciate it. Once you spend time with Jay, you realize he is one of the nicest people you've ever met. I love his personality; so sweet, patient, understanding, relaxed, and easygoing. I love that he is genuine and so caring. He has a warm demeanor. He is a noble soul. If you are around Jay Simon enough, you consider him a friend, not just a lawyer. Mr. Simon should know that he is deeply and intensely loved by his clients. Jay takes great care of his clients at a time that they need the most help. When I went to the court meeting, I went with a five other clients of Mr. Simon. We talked. I am actually surprised there aren't more reviews of him here based on the way the other clients spoke about him; they all loved him. A simple example: Mr. Simon escorted us to the court meeting so we didn't have to worry about where we were going. Once at the meeting most of the other attorneys didn't even interact with their clients. In comparison, while we waited, Mr. Simon was attentive to us all. Mr. Simon repeatedly made eye contact, smiled reassuringly and even held my hand to reassure me that everything would turn out alright (I was very nervous!). I hope each of you has someone in your life that is as wise and steady North Star like Jay Simon is to so many clients. I really liked working with attorney Jay Simon, he helped me through the whole bankruptcy process; he made the whole thing as smooth as possible. I would highly recommend him to anyone. I thank Jay for helping me get to this debt free place I am now in my life. If I had a friend or family going through bankruptcy, I would INSIST they work with Mr. Simon. Jay is very, very nice and holds a special place in my heart!

Join a Special Club-Jay Simon Bankruptcy Clients

I feel like I belong to an exclusive club; those individuals lucky enough to have Mr. Simon handle their bankruptcy. Mr. Simon does the little things that made me feel special, appreciated and, yes, loved as a client. He valued my business. He makes clients feel special. Why do I think s...o highly of Mr. Simon? The First Impression: Mr. Simon's office is so cool: interesting, comfortable, coziness; just a relaxed environment. Then there is Mr. Simon himself. He is very informal, not your typical stuffy attorney in a suit. He wouldn't even allow me to call him Mr. Simon. During our initial consultation Jay listened intently and with empathy. He explained. He was patient. He didn't push. He wasn't all about money. He was kind and caring. He understands how traumatic and scary it is deciding to file bankruptcy. Service: He provides the best service. He was respectful, pleasant, friendly, approachable, honest, and confident. Prompt Service: He went right to work. He started before I paid him dollar one. He didn't dither and filed my petition promptly. He has many clients but until we went as a group to the meeting, I never saw any of them. I never waited. What attorney or doctor doesn't make you wait? He respected my time and didn't think his time was more important than mine. Information and Supportive: Mr. Simon informed and educated me about bankruptcy before we started, as he prepared my petition, after it was filed, before my creditor's meeting and after I received my discharge. He went the extra mile with informative letters chock full of information and explanations. I understood what was going into my petition, was given ample instructions about doing the credit counseling and education course. I was never left wondering what was going on. He also has a way of explaining complex bankruptcy matters in simple understandable ways. Quick Communication: His letters were prompt. I knew exactly what was going on and what I needed to do. I sent a lot of email questions. And, I do mean a lot. His email responses were extremely rapid. He also returns calls promptly and personally answers the phone. He also never acted like I was bothering him even though I know I was. Personal Attention: He provided special treatment. Mr. Simon has the "personal touch" and gave me peace of mind throughout. He took the time to answer all of my questions along the way. Giving his time and personal attention sets him apart from other attorneys. He also remembered me. When I called over two years later, he spoke to me in a way that showed he recognized me. That made me feel special and important. Showed Appreciation: He said thank you. Most businesses don't bother. He thanked me for hiring him and expressed his appreciation. He sent me a simple, but thoughtful, handwritten note when my case was through. I have gone out of my way to refer family and friends to Mr. Simon. I actually feel happy to tell them about this wonderful attorney. That is why I am writing this review, so I can tell you. I stand by this attorney 100%. He provides great value for an affordable price. He provides "bang for the buck." He is nice, sweet, personable and caring. One of the nicest people I have ever met. What's not to like?

Just Perfect

I am going to add my voice to the rising chorus singing the praises of bankruptcy attorney Jay Simon. Mr. Simon prepared a chapter 7 petition for me a few months back. Dealing with him was a wonderful gift. It was a pleasure working with him. He is so nice. He is just a true gentleman whose i...nnate decency and kindness came through. Just a pure joy. His office is charming. It felt like home to me. Just so warm and comforting, much like Mr. Simon himself. Where some offices are austere, cold or even shabby, his is inviting. A mixture of modern with vintage touches that exude warmth and comfort. I especially love the Brooklyn and NY pictures. I was totally jealous and wished I had an office decorated like his! I want to make special note of the many caring touches. Various candies and cookies all over for clients. I truly felt like a kid in a candy store. Also there are thoughtful touches like a box of toys for client's kid to play with while mom and dad discuss business. I don't even have kids and I thought this was such a small, but great, caring idea that you don't see elsewhere. Another point about his office: he has the most comfortable armchairs for clients to sit in while discussing their cases. So relaxing, I didn't want to leave. I felt like I was in a friend's nice living room, not a bankruptcy attorney's office. Mr. Simon treats clients like friends, not just another client or, worse, dollar signs. He was there to help me through a difficult time in my life. He made the process very easy. Not just me, while I was there, I overheard phone conversations with others. Pure patience, understanding, kindness and caring in every phone call. Mr. Simon does not have some snotty, maybe inexperienced, overworked, disinterested secretary/assistant doing the grunt work, half-heartedly. No, Mr. Simon prepares your petition himself. He doesn't rush you through. Very considerate of how you are doing while going through the process. Repeatedly stopping to ask how I was doing and offer encouragement. I am sure doing a bankruptcy petition is common for him, but he has the human touch to know it is a big deal for his clients. He showed concern for me as a person. He was also very conversational and relaxing and fun to talk to. I felt like I was having a great lunch with a friend rather than talking to an attorney. He went out of his way to explain what he was doing, what was going on and why certain things were being asked of me. He also gave step by step instructions in person, in writing, in emails and reminder calls. Nothing was left uncovered. All the extras must cost him time and money, but he cared that my experience be smooth and easy as possible and it was. What bankruptcy attorney would you offer to actually buy a gift only to be told that it wasn't necessary and that his "gift" was my new start? Just nice! One last thing. Price. His fee was so much more reasonable then another attorney I previously visited. She wanted to charge double and wouldn't file until I paid in full by Paypal. Based on her, I expected Mr. Simon, by charging less, was going to do a bad job, take my money and not file the papers, hold me up for more money, something. The opposite was actually true. I was more interested in paying him then he was in getting paid. It is just silly to pay more for something then you need to pay. I paid less and got more; way more. Just wow. Just wonderful. Just one of the sweetest guys I've ever met. Just perfect.

The Bankruptcy "Saint"

If you look closely on Mr. Simon's desk you can see a stick pin from the movie "The Saint." If you saw that movie or the old TV show, Mr. Simon really is like the character - a saint who helps people in need. He is extreemely diligent, caring and nice. He is more interested in helping people solve... their money problems then in his getting paid. When have you ever met an attorney not interested in their payment first? I met with three other attorneys before I met with Mr. Simon, and they would barely speak to me without my paying them. Mr. Simon was the total opposite. Unlike the other attorneys who demanded their (higher) fees upfront, Mr. Simon allowed me to pay in installments that he did not rush or pressure me to pay. He was also very kind on the phone. Another attorney actually hung up on me when I first called him! Mr. Simon, on the other hand, spoke to me on numerous occasions and never rushed me off the phone. Instead he explained things, for free, before we even met once. Beyond money, he was just so much more personable and actually cared about me as a person--how I felt going through the processs. He treated me like a human being not just someone to add to his bank account. His assurances that I would be all right and his overall manner and words were extremely comforting. The other attorneys I met with pawned me off on their paralegals or were disinterested in talking to me and/or explaining anything until I paid them their fee. I was treated like I was just another customer and not an actual person. From our first phone conversation on Mr. Simon was nice and kind to me. he also answered my numerous emailed questions very rapidly--I got answers many times almost as soon as I sent my email! Then when I got to court I was amazed at how badly the other attorneys there prepared their client's petitions. One attorney made many mistakes and was smirking as the trustee admonished her and her client about the faulty petition. Even I, a non-bankruptcy professional, could see from the responses that she did a bad job. In fact, the trustee wouldn't even examine her next client until the attorney and client reviewed their petition to find the expected mistakes. The attorney acted like it was no big deal. Totalling unprofessional and I am sure the client paid her well to do a good job in representing her and not do a sh!t job and cause her problems. But this was not one isolated attorney. Almost all the attorneys at the hearings I sat through did less than stellar jobs. But when it came my turn, I had no problems. Mr. Simon did my petition perfectly and sent the trustee the required documents in advance, unlike a few of the other attorneys I saw. In fact the trustee complimented Mr. Simon on how thorough my petition was done. None of the 10-15 other attorneys received such a commendation from the bankruptcy trustee. Another thing, there was a lady there whose attorney didn't even bother to show up on time. This lady was both scared and angry at her attorney. Mr. Simon, of his own accord, tried to soothe her nerves and explain what was happening. As I was sitting next to this lady, I asked her what she paid? I was astonished to find out she was charged over $2,000! and her attorney could not be bothered to show up on time. Hmmm. She missed her turn and had to be called again before her attorney finally showed up almost an hour late. He also didn't bother to apologize to her for his lateness like he should have. I am sure this is all routine for the attorney, but it was not routine for this lady--she was scared about the whole thing and then for her attorney not to show up, you can just imagine. Mr. Simon had me meet him at his office 45 minutes in advance and walked me over to the court just so I would not have to worry about where I was going. He also explained what was going to happen and called me the day before to remind me. I am sure he could have put his time to other uses, but he cared enough about me to devote extra time to me. What a difference from the other attorn

Highly Recommended Attorney

Finding a good affordable bankruptcy attorney amongst the crowd of other attorneys vying for your business can be as stressful as the bankruptcy filing itself. Ideally you want an attorney to spend the appropriate time with you discussing your financial situation, the filing process itself, and all t...he options available. You want the attorney to be with throughout the entire bankruptcy filing. You don’t want to experience any doubts with the attorney or rushed through the filing procedure. I was very fortunate to choose Mr. Jay Simon as my attorney to handle my bankruptcy filing. From the first phone call to the final court discharge the relationship I had with Jay was professional, courteous, and quite friendly. The initial office visit was productive. Jay went over my entire financial situation and went through the appropriate course of action to take (chapter 7 filing). In addition to going over the entire legal process with me, Jay provided me with written material to prepare me for the bankruptcy process. Since I brought all the pertinent information with me we were able to have a court petition completed that day. All was done in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. He was also invaluable preparing me for the meeting with the court trustee during the creditor’s meeting. At all times Jay was always in constant contact with me via e-mail and phone messages during the entire process. I can highly recommend contacting Mr. Jay Simon as your Bankruptcy attorney. For me it was a very pleasant experience during a very difficult time. Tom

Relationship: Fellow lawyer in community

"I endorse this lawyer. Why? When you have a question, he gives you an answer as if you were across his desk so you understand the law, your options, and the answer to your question. Sometimes on AVVO we see answers to questions that in essence just say to see an attorney which is ok..as that is the ultimate answer. But this attorney will go beyond and try and fully and completely and in my view accurately answer it. Is that not the type of attorney you want? I would hope so and for that reason I endorse him."
