Thankful for Mr. Simon's expertise and honesty

Mr. Simon was an immense resource for us when we wanted to file for bankruptcy. After meeting with us, he concluded that we'd be better off not filing for Chapter 7, and rather than accepting us as clients, he thought it was in our best interest to work with a Chapter 11 attorney. Being an expert in ...Chapter 7, he knew that it was not the best route for us. And being an honest professional, he referred us to someone who, based on his research, could serve our needs. We were pleased with the attorney he referred us to; however, our circumstances changed and we aborted the Ch. 11 process. I returned to Mr. Simon to ask if I could retain him for Ch. 7, but since I have been living out of state for several months, he said I must file in my current state. Unfortunately, living in NY for 1/4 of the year is not enough to file in NY. Filing in my current state of residence would be simpler, but the reason I want to file in NY is because I trust Mr. Simon and want him to represent me. He has given me so much good advice, even though I am ineligible to be his client. He cares about helping people and will share his knowledge and expertise, whether or not you are a paying client. Those who qualify to be clients of Mr. Simon are in good hands.

Credit Where Credit is Due

Full disclosure: I am a fellow bankruptcy attorney in the NYC area. The reason that I am not posting this review of Jay Simon as a peer endorsement, is that I wanted more anonymity. Jay Simon and I are not friends, though we do say hello to each other. I was in no way asked to write this and Mr. S...imon does not know I intend to post this review. I just want to pass along something positive to others that I don't think would otherwise be known. This is the story: I was at a 341 creditors meeting in the Southern District today and the case trustee, as his meeting was wrapping up, praised Mr. Simon's petition as being "well prepared." I make special note of this as the trustee did not praise any of the over half-dozen other attorney's work, including my own, and one attorney was even reprimanded for doing a very poor job. I was very impressed. In fact, this is the second time I have witnessed a trustee compliment Mr. Simon. About a year or two ago, I heard another trustee, this time in the Eastern District, also praised Mr. Simon's petition work. As a bankruptcy attorney, I attend many creditor's meetings and trustee compliments to attorneys are rare and far between. That I saw compliments paid twice to the same attorney, compelled me to post this review. Even though he is my direct competitor, I just think this occurrence deserves to be publicized in some way and I am sure Mr. Simon, being unassuming, would never mention it and there were not many others in the room at the time. Kudos to you, Mr. Simon.

Just Fill In Your Own Positive Adjectives!

Just got my discharge and am through with bankruptcy, so I feel it is time to write a review of my wonderful bankruptcy attorney. We never thank good people enough in this world, so here goes. I love the camaraderie Jay has with his clients. I never expected to feel like I was becoming friends with m...y bankruptcy attorney, but I did. He really got to know me personally and I could tell it was the same way with the other clients that I went with to my creditors meeting. I actually feel like I have made a friend. J is such an encouraging person. He has really watched over me throughout the process. He was very easy to deal with. He put me at ease the moment I walked into his office. He genuinely cared about my situation and offered a lot of worthwhile, thoughtful, personal advice. He made the whole process go as smooth as glass. I could not have found a better bankruptcy attorney. J is just a special person, not just a great bankruptcy lawyer. He did so many extra things that most other bankruptcy attorneys I don’t think do. My mom filed with another attorney last year, so I have a comparison. J was quick to get me in for my initial consultation at an inconvenient time for him, but convenient for me, while mom had to wait two weeks for her first appointment. He spent hours just going over bankruptcy, explaining stuff, before I even made a decision to file, while mom’s first appointment lasted a whopping 20 minutes and she was compelled to leave a deposit. J personally prepared my petition; going right to work then and there, while mom had to give documents to a paralegal, who did the work with a lot of back and forth. J took time and didn’t rush, as he wanted everything to be accurate. He also answered my many questions, calmly, simply, with a lot of knowledge. He peppered the preparation with stories from his experiences that made things interesting and helped me better understand things. After the filing, he sent an 8-page letter telling me about the meeting, instructing me on doing the education course, and other things having to do with bankruptcy. I received the letter in the mail two days after the papers were filed. Mom’s attorney didn’t send her anything for about two weeks and she only got a few sentences telling her when and where the meeting was and that she had to be there. On the day of the meeting, J had us meet with him an hour prior in his office, to review our petitions and discuss what was going to happen and then escorted us right to the meeting room. I loved not having to worry where I was going. Mom had to meet up with an attorney she never met before at the court. When we were through with the meeting, I actually wanted to hug him, but as I am a male, I thought it might be awkward for him and me. J would answer my emails almost immediately and he answers phones himself. Mom’s attorney would take days to respond to phone calls or emails. Jay reminded me, like clockwork, that I needed to do the education course that I was neglecting. The day I got my discharge, J was on the phone letting me know the news. I could hear in his voice that he was happy for me. He then sent a copy of the discharge under a fabulous, informative, full of advice, 18-page, cover letter, which also thanked me for hiring him and wished me good luck. Mom got no such call or letter. Mom only knew her case was discharged when she received the paper in the mail from the court. Last, mom’s attorney charged two and a half times as much as J and wasn’t worth even close to that. J, on the other hand, was worth about five times what I paid him. As you can see, J made this experience easy and painless. J took personal interest in me. I highly recommend J to anyone who wants first-class bankruptcy service. He is just the sweetest, most generous, caring, person I have met in a long time. Thank you for your hard work, your understanding, support, professionalism, compassion, all the extras and, especially, your friendship. - Top

Magical!

I am so glad that I chose Jay Simon. From our first meeting, I knew Jay would get me through this bankruptcy. He is such a sweet person. There is a kindness in his smile. He is a very comforting presence. He is so kind and supportive of his clients. He seems to truly care about the people he is... helping and want them to be happy and comfortable doing the bankruptcy. I was down and depressed and he was always encouraging and never let me put myself down or get down on myself. Having someone believe in me, it’s a small, but really, really big thing. Jay was very tolerant and kind to me throughout this process. You know he is, or would make, a good dad. I truly love this man. Jay Simon is the nice, perfect bankruptcy attorney. His spark, down-to-earth ways, his heart, his humor, just added to a positive bankruptcy experience for me. He’s just the best. He was magical. Jay, thank you so much for all of your expertise and warm compassion when you assisted me. You don’t know how much I needed it at the time. I will always refer you whenever anyone has the need.

Relationship: Fellow lawyer in community

"I endorse this lawyer. Why? When you have a question, he gives you an answer as if you were across his desk so you understand the law, your options, and the answer to your question. Sometimes on AVVO we see answers to questions that in essence just say to see an attorney which is ok..as that is the ultimate answer. But this attorney will go beyond and try and fully and completely and in my view accurately answer it. Is that not the type of attorney you want? I would hope so and for that reason I endorse him."
